We had a great day at the Chateau de Talmont (2 adults). We started our visit with the presentation of the life of Richard the Lionheart. This included some jousting and displays of horsemanship, and was led by an excellent narrator. Then we went round and tried out most of the activities and games. We were lucky that it was not too busy, so we we able to do any of the activities we wanted to including having a go at calligraphy and crossbow shooting. You could also dress up in medieval costumes, have a go on stlts, and children could try out jousting on ponies. At the onsite cafe we had lunch, a galette with ham, cheese and egg and a salad. The guided tour of the castle was available in French and English. We chose the English tour and a delightful and knowledgeable guide led us through the grounds and the keep. At 3PM we saw a display of birds of prey. Hawks, owls, a bald eagle, a vulture and parrots were all part of the programme. This part alone was worth the visit. We plan to visit again next year to show our friends this new (to us) attraction.

I went with my 15 year old son and we had a lovely time. Absolutely loved everything we did. We attended both the falconry and Richard Lion Heart shows in the afternoon and loved both. My son loved the jousting. We also did a guided tour of the castle. Our guide was a lovely girl called Matilde I think... she was really nice and tried her very best in English, she was very knowledgeable and very friendly, we had a great time with her (it was just my son and I for the guided tour in english). Fantastic views, great history. Loads of games for the kids. We wanted to try out the cross bow but it was a bit too long in the queue so we gave up unfortunately. I would definitely visit again!

Went in July as it opened and saw jousting and horsemanship skills - acrobatic riding. Also lots of medieval type games for kids. Castle was also great to walk around. Also 5 birds of prey to see, and bird show. Ideal age range is 5 to 12 years I think - lots for younger kids 5 to 8. Talmont St Hilaire town is also very pretty and there is a kayak river company near the castle- but didn’t try this as too hot by midday.
