About
2. Step into the innermost world of Van Gogh In the attic of the Ravoux Inn, a single skylight lets a few rays of sunshine into the room N° 5 where Vincent lived and died. Out of sheer superstition, this garret referred to as the “suicide room” was never rented out again since 1890. In this well-preserved site, there is nothing to see... but in his empty room, you can relate and bond with the painter’s psyche. To fully take in the experience, you may wish to consider visiting this enclave of silence on a weekday. You will grasp the sentiment of one of our visitors, who thanked us for “transforming the glory of Van Gogh into an intimate experience.”

- pierremichelvaboisVerneuil-en-Halatte, France22 contributionsUnmissable visit, in the footsteps of Vincent Van GoghUnmissable visit to Auvers sur Oise, last stage of Vincent Van Gogh's life path. To be completed by a lunch at the Ravoux inn where the artist had his habits. Very good home-cooked meal. Special mention for the lentil, onion and candied bacon velouté as well as the chocolate mousse. Very warm welcome. Timeless atmosphere Booking is recommended To recommendVisited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 18, 2024
- David D5 contributionsA must for anyone that loves Van Gogh and his workWhat an amazing experience to be able to see the locations of Van Gogh’s final works. The Inn and surrounding town are enjoyable places to visit and see some of what Vincent saw that resulted in some of the most incredible art ever made. It is also a somber experience when you understand a little of what he was going through and standing in the room in which he died is something I will never forget.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 3, 2024
- Camper076117156481 contributionFor the curiousI was curious to see the room in which van Gogh died but it has to be admitted that there is not much to see; the room is almost empty, there is still a chair to furnish a little and some wooden frames are placed against the wall and protected by a showcase. Luckily there is one person to give us a comment otherwise it would not be of interest. We are also shown the next room (where another painter was staying, who picked up Van Gogh's brother after his suicide attempt) before showing us, in a last room, a minimalist film about Vincent Van Gogh's stay in Auvers-sur-Oise. For a fee of 10€ per person, I thought it was a bit light but it may be worth it for the real Van Gogh enthusiastsVisited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 27, 2024
- Dea ex machinaBelfast, United Kingdom85 contributionsA room with an empty chair.Visiting the Maison Van Gogh is stepping back in time. The stairs up to his room creak in the right places. The paint on the walls flakes gently. The smell is musty. And then we arrive in the room where he lived, and died. It is a place to silently reflect. I had an excellent tour guide who asked and answered questions, as well as explaining the factual detail of van Gogh’s time in this house. She was very knowledgable and passionate about her subject - well worth a visit. Photos are not allowed, and that seems very appropriate - it would seem ghoulish to insist on photographing such a scene. The museum shop has some very sensitive and reflective photos of the room for sale.Visited August 2024Traveled soloWritten August 31, 2024
- Francisco M34 contributionsA positive experience in a very unique place. An amazing visit to a unique place. The staff of the Museum is highly professional. The guided visit to the place where Vincent Van Gogh lived and died is very emotional but handled very graciously by the trained staff. A highly recommended visit. In addition, Auverse-sur-Oise is a beautiful town ar a very convenient distance from Paris.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 9, 2024
- Anne-Claire GergaudCambrai, France60 contributionsHave a nice visitHave a nice visit. It is true that the duration short can leave us a little on our Hunger, but the comments given by our guide and watching a video in conclusion still transmits us I don't have a certain emotion. The power visiting this place is exceptional. Moreover, the shop is very rich and the exhibition in outside documenting Van Gogh's life is Interesting. Thanks to you!Visited October 2024Traveled with friendsWritten November 17, 2024

You cannot miss visiting this very important place in Van Gogh's life. This is the hotel where he stayed and where he died. The room where he lived is the small one on the roof. The room, known as the "suicide room", was no longer rented after Van Gogh's death, whose funeral was held on the ground floor, where the restaurant is today, which has maintained the same atmosphere and furnishings. We visit the two small rooms upstairs, where the artist lived and then we watch a video. The whole thing lasts half an hour. The ticket price is a little expensive for what you see (7.50 euros), but it's worth it

Visit of 10/29/23,
The visit and access to the store are only possible if you take the guided tour. That's 7 euros per person all the same.
In the end, a visit at a leisurely pace of 20-30 minutes shows in hand with access to Van Gogh's room consisting of a chair in the middle of a room, the opening of an old wardrobe and 10 minutes of blabla by heart from a guide.
More than express passage into the next room (1 minute watch in hand).
Film without much interest either, 5-10 minutes long, explaining roughly with epistolary evidence what the guide told previously...
In conclusion: just like almost the entire city of Auvers: a site which was once pleasant but which suffers from lucrative over-tourism.

The visit lasts 30 minutes and I must say the fees are quite expensive for such a small tour. Anyway, a nice guide explained to us Van Gogh's life and how bad and miserable he felt until he commited suicide. It is very interesting and quite moving : we litterally stand in the room where is died.
The end of the visit is a movie that lacks of explaination but quite nice.

Interesting for the place where Vincent Van Gogh ended his days. On the other hand, the visit is still very brief. The 15-minute topo in the painter's empty room is recited by heart in a very academic manner. Nothing in the room apart from a chair right in the middle! Zero personal matters except 3 old executives behind a mirror. We end with a short 15-minute film in another room next door…..all of this is a little light and still reflects the desire for profitability of the place. Now, because of this sidereal void, it is up to everyone to imagine what the painter's life was like at the Ravoux Inn.

We did not have much time to visit here so we made sure to stop and see where Vincent Van Gogh spent his last weeks of life. This was a prolific time for him producing so many well known paintings. He is buried here and his brother that he was close to lies beside. As you walk around you can see why he would have been inspired to stay here and paint. So many lovely spots to sit and create. However, it is rather sad to see the room he lived and died in and to think that he took his own life. Unfortunate that he never lived to see how loved and appreciated his art would become. There is a very nice book store here to help you learn and appreciate Van Gogh

This was a very moving experience, that leaves a lump in your throat. Van Gogh’s room is empty and has been left since he died. Even more impactful is that his funeral was at this cafe. The guide was very informative and honest, with excellent English and obviously knew her ways around the various conspiracy theories surrounding Vincent’s death. It’s very small inside, and access up steep stairs which may be an issue for those with mobility problems. One thing to note is that although you can eat at Auberge Ravoux this is not in the room where Van Gogh ate, as this has (quite rightly) been preserved. You can eat in the new building at the back, however. They are trying to raise cash so one of his works can be displayed here, to fulfil his wish so patronise if you can.

Unique and wonderful experience! I took a guided tour to learn more about the history of Van Gogh and see the pretty little Auberge Ravoux. Very friendly and enthusiastic guide. It was fascinating to see room number 5 and the restaurant, where I had a really pleasant time. You also have to go up to the church and the cemetery to see the tomb of Vincent and Théo Van Gogh.

I have loved the work of Vincent Van Gogh since I was a little girl, so seeing the room he occupied during his last few months on earth was extremely moving. Our guide was knowledgeable and a lovely person. The slideshow at the end is also very moving. Thank you for the paintings Vincent, RIP.

Finding myself in the room where Vincent died is, once again, a deeply emotional experience. There is nothing to see in the empty room but a connection with its last inhabitant---Vincent van Gogh is everywhere. The large posters fill in the history in words and images.

We enjoyed a delicious platter of cheeses and charcuterie in this lovely cafe. Service was excellent and friendly. Waiters speak very good English which is helpful! Should be enjoyed independent of the Van Gough Nostalgia trip.
