The fountain at the east entrance of the Parterre Gardens, on the east side of the Royal Palace. On a pillar in the center of the fountain are statues of two people, probably mythical gods. The fountains are nice in summer because it's a very dry region, but by the time I visited, the basin was dry.

Fuente de Hércules y Anteo.
In front of the “Royal Palace you have the “Jardin del Parterre”, a nice garden who has the fountain of Hercules and Anteo on the end and bordering on the river Tajo.
The fountain is the most spectacular part of the park, and when you return on you steps towards the Palace, on your right you will have a small bridge who leads you into the “Jardin de la Isla” on the right side of the Palace, also a need park to visit with some fountains and a small but very beautiful waterfall on the right when crossing the small bridge and heading towards the toilets.
After this visit, comeback to the small bridge and leave the park straight ahead and doing so you arrive on the “Plaza das Parejas” or the Couples Square.
Aranjuez maybe not that great, but it is a need place to visit.

The Fuente de Hercules y Anteo is a very beautiful fountain and when we went there the fountain was working. I was able to take a good photograph there. We enjoyed seeing the fountain.

Although you will probably wander through these magnificent gardens looking at dried-out fountains, most of them actually work on a limited schedule. The city tourist office and the palace admissions office has a schedule, and it's worth trying to catch these wonderful fountains in all their glory. We caught the Fuente de los Cisnes and Fuente de Narciso working for ten minutes each on a Saturday afternoon.

The Jardin del parterre is the nearest to the Palace and Jardin de la Isla is adjoining. Both are next door to the Palace. Audio guides are available. It is free to go in. Nearest gardens to the palace are the most cultivated. Beautiful Zinnias, dahlias, begonias and cosmos were in flower and thriving in the heat! There are spectacular fountains most of which were playing when we visited. Also small flowering trees with pretty pink flowers. There are mature magnolias with interesting bright green shiny leaves which are a furry brown underneath. This is the tree's way of conserving moisture. The river Tagus forms the boundary of the gardens. There is a weir where people stand and fish. The Jardin de la Isla is the furthest from the Palace and is full of mature trees and easy to get lost in. It was lovely to walk in the dappled green shade of the trees. Worth seeing if you are interested in plants and trees as we are. Also a complete change from the opulence of the palace and the city streets.

Can we even call this a fountain if it hasn't even one drop of water?? I was appalled to learn that the fountains work on "schedule" and they are already turned "off" by noon time; the staff argues that the community of Madrid is going through a serious drought but even then the fountain was terribly kept; it was dirty, filled with weeds and I even saw some trash in it, which was incredibly sad.
The gardens surrounding it are not that attractive either. I was very disappointed to see the poor upkeep of this and other fountains in the gardens, a true let down.

The fountain hasn't water, was not working, so sad, the sculpture is wonderful.
They need to repair and take care of the fountains, and gardens, they are a mess.

Very pretty, very big. Impressive, attracts attention from afar. It has curious details. To see it slowly. What a shame it doesn't have water.
