- Mariann P1 contributionBeautiful lake with warm water, easy to reach, enterance bit expensiveBeautiful lake, was very calm in February. Water was warm at 21C, although was a bit chilly outside (14C). The ticket is expensive for what you get, but if you can afford it definitely worth a visit! Easy to reach from Athens with public transport, although be careful not to miss your stop as there are no announcements (written or spoken) in the bus and the stop is quite easy to miss.Visited February 2024Traveled soloWritten February 21, 2024
- Seaside677255878391 contributionDefiantly Worth a visitWe stayed in Athens for 7 days and visited this place twice. It’s a beautiful place, staff are friendly and the lake was great for a swim. Our visit was in March when it wasn’t busy, but can imagine during summer times there won’t any beds etc available. They have a restaurant/cafe on site which has limited food options but it was nice. They have waiting staff to serve you at your sun bed if preferred or seating with tables. If you have forgotten something there was also limited swimming items at the ticket desk that could be purchased but unsure of the price. Getting to the lake from central Athens was simple, take the metro (was 4 euros each for 24hours so can use for way back, and also the same ticket is for trains and buses) the metro line is the red one and we got off at Elliniko, up the stairs and then there is row of 3 bus stops we waited in the middle one for bus 122 which will take you straight outside the lake - be aware there is screens on the bus saying the stops but they don’t hang around so make sure your keeping an eye on when to get off. Alternative routes are a tour bus which is 20 euros each for 2 days and can be used to go anywhere, or a taxi which from the centre was roughly 30 euros (during summer I would recommend a taxi or open air bus as in 19 degrees in March the buses were hot and packed). This lake is beautiful for a day out to relax, swim and even have a little pedicure from the small fish.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 25, 2024
- AllordJeddah, Saudi Arabia71 contributionsSwimmingBeautiful lake and great atmosphere worth experiencing. The lake is located next to the sea, where fresh water from rain mixes with sea water, making it almost salty. Small fish that eat dead skin live in it, so the lake becomes filled with small fish like SPA, which feed on the skin, making you feel tickles in your legs. The place is the lake's swimming pool, where entry fees for swimming are charged in addition to the use of benches and chairs. The fees are about 15 euros for adults and 6 euros for children. There are also outdoor sessions for those who do not want to swim without fees. The restaurant and the food are frankly delicious and worth it, and the prices are somewhat moderate to high due to the location and cleanliness. The place is worth trying and enjoying the place.. it is somewhat crowded on the weekend. After finishing the lake, it is possible to go to the beach on the opposite side and choose one of the seafood restaurants and enjoy the general view or the sunset view if you like. Splendor with the atmosphere and breezes of the Mediterranean air It is possible to reach it by taxi for 25 euros one way. The second way is by metro and then by bus, but it takes an hour to reach the lake. Sorry.. If you liked my review, do not forget to press the like button so that everyone can benefit. Thank youVisited May 2023Traveled with familyWritten April 5, 2024
- Ellie M24 contributionsLovely day at the lake. Our family had a lovely day at the lake. We chose to book Uber taxis there and back from central Athens (however, you can get public transport to the lake too). You have to buy all drinks and food at the lake. You cannot bring your own packed lunch. Entrance for a family of 4 was around 60Euros. So all in all, with entrance fees, taxis, food & drink we spent 230Euros for a family of 4. So it’s an expensive day trip. However as a once off treat we felt it was well worth it. We were not disappointed. We had a lovely time. The lake is beautiful, the water is warm all year round. The water is still and easy to swim in. Fish come up to you and nibble at your feet. We brought our own snorkels with us. We enjoyed snorkeling & looking at the fish. The food was really tasty & good quality. We all enjoyed our lunch & drinks. The staff were very attentive and professional. The service was very good. They bring everything to your deck chairs promptly. The thing that can be improved, they could put signs up explaining not to wear sun cream before entering the lake or tell you this in person when you enter. Instead there is a regular tannoy announcement giving guests this instruction. Which ruins the relaxing atmosphere a little. Also generally more signs & info explaining where the changing rooms & facilities are… etc would be good. Guests were confused getting changed in the toilets, as there was a lack of signage and information. However, all in all it was a lovely day. We all really enjoyed it. The scenery & water are spectacular. The facilities are clean. We would go again.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 13, 2024
- bonapuellaNarva, Estonia170 contributionsAmazing place to relax.Great place to relax with friends, couple or family. Everything is excellent, both the lake itself and the place around it. A regular ticket is 17€ per adult, but you can ask the staff where you can sit. You can eat your own or order a lot of it from the staff. Everyone is very helpful and responsive. You can pay for both the ticket and food using the terminal. The fish are cute. The lake is gentle and warm.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 25, 2024
- Cara_TaraParis, France131 contributionsExceptionalThe site is exceptional, a lovely setting to spend part of the day. The water was 21°C for the month of April with a crystal clear color. You will also be surprised by the small fish (fish doctor/fish spa) which live naturally in the lake and which will come and nibble your feet. Entrance is chargeable and a little expensive for a natural site (17 euros for a deckchair but count more for a deck chair...) Not to mention that if you eat on site, it goes up quite quickly. A must-visit site, it's totally exotic and it's easily accessible from the center of Athens in about 30 minutes by bus.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 26, 2024
- BeckaCumbria, United Kingdom53 contributionsFantastic and relaxing day trip out of the city centreFantastic day trip out from the city centre. We chose to taxi there but there may be public transportation. Definitely get there early if you want to get a sun bed as it got a lot busier through the day. The lake itself was a little cold but you got used to it. The fish were really fun too. You can scan a QR code at your sun bed to order food and drinks which the waiters will bring over. The salad and sandwiches were really tasty. You can’t wear sun cream in the lake but there are showers to use.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 6, 2024
- Cat DMetz, France73 contributionsGood Doctor Fish 😉We had a great afternoon. Entrance fee: €17 per person but you get a deckchair for this price and the infrastructure that goes with it: changing cabins, toilets, etc. We had an aperol spritz for €10, it’s no more expensive than at the beach. Beautiful place and we don't step on each other, at least at this time. You also have fish spas in their environment, which come to eat your dead skin 😁 so funny, ticklish... In any case, we really liked it and we recommend it.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 8, 2024

We had a weeks holiday in Vouligameni and spent two days at the lake as we liked it so much. We booked reserved sunbeds on the decking in a quiet area at 40 euros for 2. The lake had such a tranquil relaxing atmosphere, there are little fish which will come and nibble dry skin, it tickles but if you don't like it just move and they will disappear. The Covid hygiene precautions were second to none, the toilet was cleaned every time it was used (poor cleaner!). The sunbeds were disinfected between different users and a reserved banner placed on them so they weren't used casually, all staff were masked. Food and drinks were nice and served to your lounger or you could eat in the cafe area. Reasonably priced. I would also mention the lovely lady (possibly the manager) who came and spoke to us on the morning of our second day as she remembered us from the day before. She was very informative and told us all about the lake, staff like this make such a difference to your experience. I would highly recommend visiting the lake for a perfect relaxing day.

We visited the lake on 26 December. It was a holiday so the entry was 15 Euro per person. Had a great time swimming in a crystal clear lake. The fish enjoyed a little nibble and we have great holiday pics. The water was 22C but in December that doesn't feel like a lot. Still worth the trip.
M2 metro to Elliniko than 122 bus which ran every 40minutes or so. The bus stop in the direction of the lake is the one on the side of the metro entrance at Elliniko. A taxi from the lake to Elliniko was 12 Euro.

We visited for a short while during a day trip in Attica outside Athens, as we headed for Cape Sounio. Vouliagmeni apparently means "sunken lake" appropriately so as it was once an underground cavern created by erosion in the limestone rock. Eventually that erosion and an earthquake caused the roof to collapse uncovering the lake. The water in the lake is brackish, a mixture of seawater seeping in from the nearby Aegean Sea just across the main road you drove on to get here as well as a fresh water from an underground spring. There is apparently still a long, underwater cave extending 800 meters from the lake. The lake is also home to a unique sea anemone found only in these waters (Parenomonia vouliagmeniensis). The "spa fish," Gara rufa, known to nibble dead skin off ones feet also makes a home here.
The water temperature is relatively warm, never below 18C (about 65F) but usually a comfortable 22-24C (72-75F). Naturally these mineral waters have long been thought to have curative properties.
There is an entrance fee to swim and use the small beach and a long boardwalk which were lined with loungers and shade umbrellas. There was a spa offering massage therapy. Unfortunately we did not have the time to sample the waters. We did have some coffee at the cafeteria/restaurant. Clearly the local bird population was habituated to humans and being fed by them as we were quickly surrounded by sparrows, finches and mourning doves.
It was a pleasant break and if we are ever in the area again will definitely spend more time there and explore and enjoy the waters.

Entrance in 2020 is 18 euros which I would find reasonable if they would live up to their standards. If you’re looking for a sunbed you gotta be the first one to enter lake vouliagmenis, thanks to the fact that there are basically 10 sunbeds in there. Except if you’re not planning to tan, then you could sit on some chairs (not comfortable btw). Also apparently if you don’t find a place to sit at you would have to leave. I wasn’t allowed to sit on the ground next to the lake, cause i was “blocking” the passageway (which I respectfully accepted and moved on). Another thing, staff was not helpful, we were given no information nor any water, except for one lady i really appreciated she actually looked for a place we could lay at. The lake wasn’t even that clean. Honestly I do not recommend going there at all, unless you’re going to the restaurant, which i personally haven’t had the chance to try the food there yet, I’ve only seen some prices (fresh orange juice - 5,50€ , coffee - 5,00€). Hope this helped :/

My husband and I visited in March which is hit or miss with the weather. I would recommend bringing warm clothes to change into if you are planning on swimming. The weather outside the lake was about 60 degrees and the water was about 70 degrees. Once you got in and started moving around it was quite enjoyable. The further into the lake you go the warmer it is. My husband and I also liked the fish that eat your dead skin- free pedicure :)
The venue was very clean, had great bathrooms, and a locker room area.
I would recommend visiting as a tourist attraction. It’s a very cool and unique spot in Greece.
BRING YOUR OWN TOWEL. You cannot rent you have to buy.

I stopped here on the way back for the Temple of Poseidon. It can be reached using the same bus from the main station in Athens centre. It's a fabulous location with a beautiful rock face and cave set behind a wonderful lake. There is decking around one side with a cafe and sunbeds but you have to pay 15 Euros to enter. If you wish to just see it and take great photos - as I did - then go to the car park to the left of the main entrance and walk to the back left corner where you will be directly above the lake and cave for some amazing photos.

Only 30 minutes away from the Athens city center is where you’ll find Lake Vouliagmeni. And I can tell you guys, it’s been a truly mesmerizing experience to be able to visit this place.
+ The water is between 19 and 30 degrees which is good for your body
+ they serve amazing iced coffee. I recommend the Late Freddo, and if you’d want to go for some food I’d go for the fresh grilled potatoes with rosemary and feta cheese.
+ with the hop on hop off tour bus you can get tickets for 25,-. Cheapest way to visit this place
Note : you have to pay 15 euros per person for a ticket. But believe me, it’s worth it.
10/10 would visit this place again.

We travelled from Athens to the lake, originally we were going to get the metro to the last station and then get a bus but we were advised to take the tram at Neos Kosmos to Gafada. We got off at Gafada and then walked along seafront for 10 minutes to the local square and then waited for a bus, in the guide book it advised 117 or 115 and 122 but a local gentleman advised to get the 122 as it went straight there rather than the 117 that went around the town.
Unfortunately we missed out stop and the bus started to climb away from the lake quite rapidly we pushed the button and got off at the very top at a view point. We crossed the road and within minutes Another bus came which we got on as we knew there was no turn offs prior to the take, we got off at the first drop and it was directly outside the lake.
It was 8€ entrance. The water was 21c and said to have healing properties, at first it felt cold but once we were in it was lovely, we watched birds fish from the lake, my partner had the little fish clean her feet for about 20 minutes, I couldn’t bare it. There are free sunbed, hot showers, toilets, lockers and waiters who come and take your orders from the cafe. It was sunny at about 18c in feb and then had heaters to help warm you up. Would highly recommend this wonderful place.

This lake and the cliffs are so beautiful, we spend 6 hours here! You have to be OK with hundreds of little fish eating your dead skin. Water is super clean and clear, its temperature was 25 degrees on a hot day. Purchasing a ticket for the privé area is a must, cause the other decks looked very crowded/small, or sunbeds were placed inpractical where people would pass all the time or giving little room. I wouldn't want to have gambled what spot I would have gotten there.
The privé area explored its capacity/1.5m distance while we were there, adding and moving sunbeds closer to ours as the day progressed to accomodate more guests and their wishes, but luckily it didn't escalate too much.
The staff in the privé area was very friendly, and perhaps they were instructed to leave us alone as much as possible, cause our empty drinks weren't cleared for hours, and they never asked if we wanted anything else. This could be improved upon.
The restrooms are great, and the shower was ok.
All in all, we were here for the secenery and lake, and we had amazing swims and were able to relax. Loved it!
Btw, we rented a car and drove here in 30 min from Athens, but you can also pay for a city tourist bus and reach this lake.

My mum and I travelled from Athens city centre to Lake Vouliagmeni for the day. We took the subway M2 (red line) from Omonoia subway station to Elliniko. It was very cheap only costing us €1.20 per person. Subway was quiet and well air conditioned. From there we took the 122 bus, which was just outside the subway station, and got off at Limni (see attached photo for Greek name on bus stop). The entrance to Vouliagmeni Lake was just across the road from this stop. The lake was absolutely beautiful! We only payed for a basic sun chair and entry which was €15 per person. The area is also surrounded by beautiful beaches and restaurants so it is definitely worth visiting. When travelling back on the bus, I recommend getting on at Vouliagmeni bus stop rather than walking part way as the further down the bus goes, the busier it gets and you risk not getting on. Hope this helps.
