After a wonderful drive along the Athens Riviera, the Temple of Poseidon appears - solitary at the top of a hill with the sea surrounding it. Although with Covid, the restaurant on site was closed, this meant the crowds were away and we had the place almost to ourselves. For those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Athens city centre, consider renting a car and enjoying a lovely day out to this ancient temple.

The site and temple are not that large, but it is still very much worth the drive from Athens. It is really picturesque, and the view over the sea is lovely.

There is not a lot to actually see but there are boards with English translations which provide you with a lot of information. There is very little shade so try and avoid the hottest part of the day. Entrance is €10 per person. Very nice cafe on site to cool off with very clean facilities. Easy to socially distance.

We caught a bus from the south west corner of the Pedion Tou Areos park in Athens, taking about 90 minutes to get to the temple site. Well worth the visit, but best in conjunction with other stops if coming from Athens to make the journey worthwhile.
