Great but not amazing

It was okay. Hard to get there with public transportation.

Also, some of the animals weren’t there. However it was not crowded at all even tho it was a Saturday.

Really good day trip
Sep 2021
I visited the zoo with mixed expectations after reading some very bad reviews but thoroughly enjoyed the day. We were 3 adults, and while zoos are ok for children, I'd suggest people with small children wait until the children are older as there were some small children who were obviously tired from all the walking and wanted to leave, so made a fuss which we found distracting, but if your kids are able to endure several hours walking around, then they will enjoy this zoo. We went during Covid times, so there were possibly less people than usual. This meant the pathways were not crowded and it was a pleasure to stroll around seeing all the animals. Although the ticket entrance looked narrow, we did see plenty of people with babies in pushchairs and at least one person in a wheelchair, so there must be a wider access somewhere. There are almost no stairs inside, so no obstacles for pushchairs/wheelchairs. There were plenty of places to sit for a rest, either actual seats or low stone walls. There were at least 3 different picnic areas where you can take food and sit. The toilets were all clean and located in different areas around the zoo. The woman at the ticket office gave us a small map, but there were also several large maps throughout the park, making it very easy to travel around and find the animals you want to see.
The cafe in the center of the zoo did not have a large selection of food (mainly snacks like popcorn, crisps and biscuits, a limited selection of sandwiches, pies and salads. Cooked food was souvlaki, fried chips, hamburgers and chicken nuggets), so if you have specific dietary needs, you might want to bring your own food, but if you're ok with snacks, then you'll be fine. There's a big open green lawn just outside the cafe, so with limited seating due to Covid, we had to find somewhere outside to eat and chose a spot under a tree looking over at the giraffe compound - which was a great view.
We reached the zoo using public transport. The 319 bus from Doukisis Plakentias metro station stops just outside the zoo (it's 2 bus stops after the 3rd bus stop at Retail Park/ McArthurGlen - stop sign says Attica Park), but there's not a clear sign indicating the zoo - you have to walk along an unfinished 'dirt' road for about 5 minutes before you see the zoo entrance - that is something that needs working on to make it easier/nicer for pedestrians. There was a large carpark for anyone wanting to drive there.
The animal enclosures looked well-maintained and included a lot of natural flora, without hiding the animals from view. The animals looked well-kept and didn't look distressed, as some people had written in older reviews. There were a couple of spots where you could buy small pellets to feed the fish, a fun experience for adults and children alike.
The gift shop had the usual plush toy animals you find at zoo gift shops, plus a really nice guidebook, which I bought, that details all the animals living there, plus all the various conservation work they are doing.
This is certainly a place I'd recommend to others.

We were with family and this was vary good experience. It was interesting not only for children but also for us - adults. Highly recommend. But take into account that zoo cafe's food isn't so good and tasty. So better to eat somewhere else.

disappointed

Do not be disappointed as we are. Dolphins and lemurs are closed due to covid which I do not understand as feeding of giraffes is still allowed for 5 euros so there were like 20 people waiting in the que with no distance.

Great place for family with kids and not only.

I just love this place. have been going every year so for 6 years and now going with my daughter who just loves playing with the small goats, and bunnies. for her this is a jungle )))) For me it was the first positive experience seing animals so taking care of and having so much place for themselves. and now in pandemic times, they caregivers are really careful, we can't see lemurs, dolphins for now, but many other animals, birds to see and enjoy.
if you're in Athens and have kids - this is place they will defeinitly enjoy. 5 hours of happiness guaranteed. that's how much it takes to quickly see everything. the place is huge. there cafeteria with kids menu, shops with toys and what's nice from those purchases some amount goes for the animal food. istn't it amazing to know you contribute to the wellbeing of those beautiful creatures?

Amazing experience

This zoo is a wonderful place. There are a lot of different kinds of animals there, and you can even interact with some of them if they are friendly enough. (e.g horses, monkeys)

A very nice experience with lots of animals

A very nice day out for the children and adults alike. Very nice layout , lots of animals and shows at feeding time. Be prepared to spend 3-5 hours there.
Careful: buying tickets through e-platform does not offer you a discount and does not get you in through a different line. You still have to line up behind people waiting to buy tickets !!!!!

Is the best zoo in Greece and for what is offering to its visitors the orice for the ticket is very good. You are able to see all the animals, take beautiful pictures and in some cases you can walk among them. The show with the dolphins is priceless. The staff shows real interest and love to the animals. You could see their reactions with the dolphins. The park is really huge. It has sitting areas scattered around. It took us 4 hours to see everything and read about each animal. It also has playground for the kids and a cafe where you can eat something. I fully recommend it!!!!!!
