Catedral Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios
Apr 2021
Flores is a small town, but it is the capital of the Peten district hence it houses a Cathedral church that administers the Diocese, The Cathedral is a rather small and underwhelming structure that sits on the highest point of the island on the side of the central plaza, as was usual in colonial times. Even though it is small, it is well taken care of and it's perhaps the only building of note in Flores, and for that alone it deserves a visit, albeit, it may be a short one.

Easy walk up
Jan 2020 • Friends
It is an easy walk up to see this pretty church. Young men were enthusiastically playing basketball on the courts outside when we went. There are some nice stained glass windows.

The Cathedral in Flores, Guatemala
May 2019 • Solo
I agree with the reviews that say, it is a lovely, but simple cathedral. Yes, there black Christ, but I was surprised s d e cited to see the the 30 or so beautiful stained glass windows almost at ceiling height. The biblical history, New Testiment, are exceptional. People are constant prayers, so it is a living institution in this very impoverished town.

All you need to visit the Island town of Flores is 30 minutes
May 2019 • Couples
The Catedral is the heart of this small, round island in the middle of the lake. Houses are painted in strong, vibrant colors. There are small restaurants, hotels and hostels catering to young budget travellers. There is not too much to be seen, nor especially nice places to hang around, so a short visit is all that is needed. Choose a hotel in the jungle like the Las Lagunas Hotel.

Don’t have to be Catholic to appreciate this Cathedral
Mar 2019 • Couples
Nicely situated atop the hill, the stained glass windows are of really unusual beauty and quality, more like one might expect in a big city. While statutes of various saints were Spanish in appearance, a very dark Jeśus made for an interesting statement. The church had a nice feel, even for non-believers.

Nice Cathedral!
Jan 2019 • Couples
Catedral de Flores is a beautiful Cathedral overlooking the colorful town on Isla de Flores. The cathedral was closed when we went by but we were still able to capture some beautiful pictures of the cathedral and it's colonial architecture. It's definitley worth going to and if you get inside there is the Black Christ by the altar.

Beautiful glimpse of local culture
Jan 2019 • Solo
In this lovely little church both Mayans and Ladinos do various ceremonial rituals, mostly Catholic but with traditional Mayan religion mixed in. I watched maybe 100 people kiss the heart of the carved black Jesus, laid horizontally below the altar. That was Sunday after mass so more people, but the next day there were also people praying in both Spanish and Mayan languages. Don’t miss the beautiful side and back chapels.

Lovely small cathedral
Nov 2018
Pale yellow and simple facade. Inside in a small room to the left....all glassed in is a robed figure looking over a body in a glass casket. I would have loved to know more about what was going on but there was nobody to ask and nothing written down anywhere. Interesting....

Nothing special, but it is a nice place to get out of the heat. Decent view from the top of the hill, again average. If you happen to be in the square, pop in and see the Black Jesus.
