while visiting the downtown area we stopped in to visit this small free local museum. donations are accepted. we spent about an hour and loved perusing what appeared to be mainly locally donated memorabilia and artifacts. everything from old high school letterman jackets and cheerleader uniforms to military items donated by locals to well just about everything you could think of. it was not only a comprehensive detailing of McAllen's past but also a trip down memory lane decade by decade. it was probably the highlight of our time in McAllen. hours of operation are limited so make sure you check before going but it is surely worth working it into your day.

Very nice staff and knowledgeable - small building full of local history. Part of the fun was walking here from my hotel as it is right in downtown and next to local businesses with flair of the area.

Stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon. The woman who was there was very friendly and helpful. She put on several videos and even brought out some books for me to look at.

I arrived on March 2nd ready to learn more about this "little" Texas town. There were great artifacts and a movie that highlighted the first 100 years of the city. The staff were great and made me feel welcomed and were ready to answer questions. Free to the public...please leave a donation to keep the door opened!
