The southwest corner of the lake is quite remote but holds the Caney Creek Recreation Area. There is a very nice boat ramp there and ample parking. This is really the end of the road!

It's like a miniature Pacific Northwest in East Texas. I was so happy to see all the trees, but not so much the tree farms. Thankfully this area is protected as it should be. Such a beautiful drive.

There are a ton of places to go to enjoy the forest. Plenty of winding high ways that take your through towering trees and really let you experience its beauty. I highly recommend traveling to some of the camp grounds/stop areas and hiking around. It's gorgeous!

The forest is beautiful. The trees are simply majestic. We spent almost four hours in the forest, hiking the Sawmill trail. We saw the spring, took hundreds of photos. We were fortunate to see four deer. We sat at the river for a long time, just listening to its sound, as well as the sounds of the forest. It was... More

We live in South Austin with hardly any tall trees. Our family just loved the trees and the green stuff everywhere!
