My husband and I are both advanced divers, but we had not been diving for 14 years (do the math). So we went to JT at Texas Dive Center, bought a bunch of updated dive gear and signed up for re-certification classes. I was surprised at first by my panic in breathing underwater even though I've done many dozens of dives. JT was patient and clear and soon our whole group was completing the tasks without any difficulty. Our 13 year old daughter also got her Open Water dive certification. She overcame many obstacles with her BC being a little large for her small frame and also the tank being so heavy. We did 2 of the open water dives at the Blue Hole and JT thoughtfully brought her 2 wetsuits to keep her warm plus a smaller tank that wouldn't cause her to fall over backwards. She had a lot of trouble clearing her ears and also maintaining neutral buoyancy, but JT was very patient and communicative and she finally accomplished the tasks required of her. We are very proud.

I took a basic dive class through this group. Two instructor were very helpful; J.T. and Cindy. I really adore Cindy and her teaching style is excellent. She is patient and always encouraging. The bad part is the structure. On our second pool trip there was a man that was the significant other of another student. This person was acting like an instructor want-to-be and while we were underwater he kept motioning for me to flood my mask (which you do a lot of in this class). Not knowing who he was I kept shaking my head no. Eventually he reached up and grabbed my mask flooding it himself. I totally panicked! This was uncalled for and he had no place doing it. At the final day of the class I hit an anxiety that I had never felt before in my life! I almost did not complete the required skills because this idiot was lurking in the background. If it had not been for Cindy I would have never made it. I am an excellent swimmer and even a synchronized swimmer back in the day but this episode has ruined any chance I have of ever scuba diving again. I get in a total panic state of mind even thinking about it just because this one person did this. Total waste of over $500!

Response from TDCINC, Guest Relations Manager at Texas Dive Center
Responded Nov 12, 2016
Yes, our staff of Instructors are great and we are sorry you felt you had a bad experience. JT and CIndy do not recall the incident. We encourage our students to tell us anytime they do not understand the skill or are stressed by any of it. Non PADI Pro in the pool are not permitted to do what you had occurred. Had our staff known they would have taken immediate action with the offender. The safety of our students is paramount. With over 300 divers trained, we are proud of these divers and most return for more training. We hope you will give us a second chance to help you over come the anxiety of diving.

Came across Texas Dive Center whilst hunting down some small Dive Gear items whilst in the US. From the moment you walk in the door it's a warm and generous greeting , calling on purely on the off chance to pick up some items before heading back to Honduras. Great Staff , great selection and now All New Friends ... For those wanting personal , quality service or Dive Training , this is the place !

Outstanding staff of instructors. They taught to our pace and not some regimented structured method we heard about other shops. Very large selection of gear that they helped us select for our needs.
