We visited here while on a road trip on a Sunday afternoon. It was quite busy with many beach goers as well as those who put up canopies to have a picnic. There were several lifeguards too. There was a fishing pier and bait camp too. Too crowded though during covid. No thanks.

We usually pick up a meal and go enjoy watching the ships coming and going. This was the location of our first date so it’s a memory making place for us. Sunrises and sunsets are always great.

The night started out nice. Beautiful views however the management was poor. I brought 2 bottles of wine to celebrate with the bride and groom. I had the bottles on the table for over 2 hours not concealed and no one said anything to us. Then i stepped outside on the deck for a beautiful gulf breeze and when i returned to fill my glass my wine bottles were gone!! I asked my wife where it went and the 2 managers said they took it in the back room. So i followed her as she instructed me to do so and gave me my bag back. I went back directly to the table and finished pouring my glass. I NO SOONER LOOKED UP AFTER POURING MY WINE AND 2 POLICE WITH GUNS WHERE AT MY TABLE!!! Seriously what did i do?? I asked what the problem was as other guest where now drawn to the attention i didn't ask for and they said ,"you have to leave now!" I said, "sorry? what crime am i committing?!" They didn't answer me but said you have to go. My lovely wife said i will take the wine to the 100 degree car. She was so humiliated by this unnecessarily scene she could not come back in. Both of my children were crying and at that point i had enough. As i walked out with my kids i made sure i told the manager, "thank you for ruining our night!" I HAVE BEEN TO MANY WEDDINGS WITH WINE FOR THE BRIDE AND GROOM AND NEVER, NEVER HAVE I OR ANYONE ELSE HAD COPS TELL ME TO LEAVE BECAUSE I BROUGHT WONDERFUL WINE!!! DO NOT BOOK YOUR WEDDING HERE!!!! WE ARE TWO VERY SUCCESSFUL MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS WITH EXCELLENT KIDS AND THIS PLACE IS FAR FROM STANDARD!!!! DO NOT BOOK ANYTHNG HERE!! SO SAD!!!!

It's a small beach but was nice and clean. Beautiful fishing pier and boating. Pet friendly. Sits on Galveston Bay. I recommend going. Get there early. Before noon to get a good spot and the better parking. Bring beach umbrellas and chairs. You can also being music, coolers, food and grills. Very pleasant and peaceful experience. It was "Sylvan Beach Day" weekend when I went so there were carnival rides, booths, food and fun!!

RUDE LOCAL BULLYS FUTURE CUSTOMER. (Go to Rollover Pass instead. Better fishing, easy access, free!)
I came here for the first time to look around and wanted to inspect the area for future fishing. I parked and walked over to the pier. The signs are confusing, some are county issue and some are local. The impression I got was that ticket purchase was during Memorial day through Labor day.
(Trying to keep story short). I walked about 50 feet onto the pier and a young man quickly walked toward me and asked me if I had a ticket. I said "no, the sign says Memorial day thru Labor day." He said "you have to have a ticket." I said I had read the sign and why would I be here if i thought I was doing something wrong?
Well he motioned to an older man who came up to me all arrogant and we had the same basic exchange. He admitted he was not a county or other employee, he was "just helping out", took off his red hat with "veteran" on the back and said
"But - I- have a ticket" (which looked like it was in his hatband for a month). I led them back to the signs.
I had to point out the sign I referred to which was mounted higher and away from the others. Older man said "oh, that's just county stuff" and I said well y'all need to get your s--t together. He said "see there's the bait shop, they've been open all day" (hard to see any building label from here, never been here before!) and we went back and forth again .
This man then pulls out his cellphone and says "Im.calling the sheriff on you, you're bothering people." WHAT?????
I told him "I'm off your pier, leave me alone" and started to walk away and he said something else and was laughing with the younger man.
A few minutes later he went to the building, talked with others there, and stared at me from the doorway for a long time. He continued to look at me as I sat on the benches in the playground area. He went back to the other side of building where they were moving sand (he appears to be part of the crew) but continued to watch me as I walked thru the park.
For him to threaten me with a false police report is disgusting. That's not the kind of behavior that makes me want to patronize the business he "helps out."
I am a petite female and had on long pants and jacket so I would hardly be flaunting anything that would cause undue attention. I always support local bait shops and businesses when I can but I won't in this instance.
And for anybody who doubts my point of view, I'm sure it has been recorded somehow, with all those security cameras everywhere. Smile!

Sylvan Beach Park has made improvements - they have a small beach where families can go, they have a nice playground and picnic area, tennis courts, a skateboard park, a bait & tackle shop, and a very nice fishing pier. There is a small charge to go onto the pier, and they have limited hours during the week.

we had a overall great time here as it saved time and money driving all the way to galveston. Its close to Kemah and its serves its purpose of being an alternate rather going to galveston. I recommend checking it out if you don't want all the crowd of galveston. Sheena

This is a nice city beach on the shores of Galveston Bay in La Porte. It has 2 sandy beaches, a fishing pier, and a playground. There is a very large grassy area for picnics. It's better place to play in the sand than actually swim in the bay. Parking is free as is beach access. There is a fee to fish on the pier. It's a great place to watch ships coming a go through the bay.

The beach was very clean and maintained. I liked that there were lifeguards on duty. You can only set up chairs and umbrellas on the beach, pop up tents can only be on the grassy area behind the sand. It's also nice to know that alcohol isn't allowed so you're not worried about drunken behavior around your kids. They also have a few picnic tables covered and you can bring your own food. Great fun, free, clean and local area for your kids to play and enjoy the Texas weather.

We stayed at the Days Inn La Porte and noticed this park just 5 minutes east of the hwy. We thought we would check it out and we are glad we did! We even came back a 2nd day to enjoy some more! Being from LA and TX, we can tell you....clean, good Gulf of MX beaches are rare. They're not your white, sandy beaches with turqouise waters. But, they can be their own unique, good thing. Parking is free and close by. Beach enjoyment is free. Restrooms are free. Trashcans are available. Coolers are allowed. Lightly populated so lots of room, quiet and cleanliness. It is a park, so you won't find endless miles of beach. But, there are two large sections that are more than adequate. There's a really long, beautiful pier that was rebuilt from the last hurricane in 2010. However, there's a $4 per person to enter it. So, unless you're fishing, there's no reason to pay just to walk down the end of it. It's long and narrow and no place to set up camp, eat or entertainment; just fishing only. Now, thanks to the horrors of the BP oil spill and the devastation of the entire Gulf ecosystem, more than a year later, the Gulf has renewed itself but there are some lingering consequences. When you fish, there are certain types of fish that are not recommended you eat...or that you eat less than one serving per month. Pay attention to the signs for which ones you shouldn't eat and just toss them back. There's a large picnic area and playground area too, if you're so inclined. Other than that, there is a quaint bait shop that you can purchase everything at. From bags of ice to bait, from ice cold soft drinks to motor oil, from sunblock to sweaters. Lastly, there are port-o-johns and restrooms. Neither are clean but the restrooms (a long distance away from one area of the beach) are the cleaner option. All in all, my daughter roamed, played with hermit crabs, fed the birds, swam and had a blast, all within the safety of the clean beach, close by me, while I soaked up the sun and enjoyed the quiet and the waves. Email me if you have any other questions that I may have forgotten here.
