About
Overlooking Galveston Bay, Kemah Boardwalk is one of Bay Area Houston’s top attractions, loved for its awesome vibes, amusement rides, game arcades, waterfront restaurants, and live entertainment. The kids will probably enjoy feeding manta rays at the aquarium, the 65-foot-high Ferris wheel, and miniature train; while the adults can tackle thrilling rides like the Iron Eagle or Boardwalk Bullet wooden coaster. There are also loads of dining options for some classic Texas BBQ and Cajun seafood. Weekenders can take advantage of the bundled passes, which give you entry to nearby attractions like the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier and Downtown Aquarium. – Tripadvisor

Kemah: A place to be with family and friends
Been to this place on 8th July 2023 This place has a bay view of ships and port at a distance. parking is available in ample at this place, however for parking nect to teh boardwalk one has to reach the place by 4pm. this place is very popular amongst the locals and few tourist also visit here. Evening and sunset time is most apt to visit this place and enjoy the walk, sit -chat, enjoy rides, be in a restaurant for dinner and drinks. the place is little crowded and afternoons can become hot and humid. Evenings are pleasant and there are many photo options at this place. great place for family and friends.

09/02/2023 Very crowded and really not a lot to do considering how big it is. Not much shade either, and the boardwalk is cramped because everyone naturally wants to stop and take pictures, or pet all the adorable cats that run around. Plus, the rollercoaster takes up most of the space. Still fun but it could be a lot better.

Pretty fun family park. A few little rides lots of shops. Didn't try any food here but it smelled amazing. Kids pretty much run all the rides and most of them are respectful. They won't let you ride the roller coaster with glasses even if you tell them you can not see without them. I took mine with me anyway and was lectured by a kid my sons age about sneaking them on after the ride. I've never had to take my rx glasses off on any ride just assumed the responsibility for them if they fell off. Other than that we had a good time.

    Fun rides
Went on a Friday in December, ghost town. No one was there. Decided to go on the Saturday and it was livelier. Pay for parking by a QR code. Rides were fun. Games were not open on the Friday, but were on the Saturday. Played in the arcade. Band was playing on the Saturday, not on Friday. Basically, if it’s off season, go on a weekend. Beast boat ride wasn’t on either of the days.

    Fun times
Fun times with the family. We used our city pass for the rides and had a blast. Many options for bars and food. Plenty of parking but almost all are pay parking lots. Security and staff made it easy to get around and easy parking. We had no complaints.

Typical Boardwalk- clean and well maintained, lacked sufficient restrooms and hourly parking
Kemah Boardwalk is exactly what you would expect when you picture a boardwalk: A collection of carnival rides, amusement park food and chain restaurants with a view of Galveston Bay. Pros: As opposed to Galveston Pleasure Pier, Kemah Boardwalk does not charge admission. The area is beautifully laid out and very clean. Rides looked well maintained and the kids' rides had some interesting fun details, like the indoor western town on the train. Plenty of benches along the water. This would be a fun place to take kids and teenagers. There is a large speedboat ride called the Boardwalk Beast, which costs a separate fee but was very fun, especially if you have never experienced a speed boat ride. You will get wet! Cons: Parking and restrooms !!!! As you arrive, there is a traffic bottleneck as you enter the area from the highway. We were directed into a lot, just following a long row of cars and as we entered the lot, the attendant informed us that their was a flat daily rate. We were only planning to stay for an hour, but couldn't back out at that point, with other cars right behind us. The rate was also considerably higher than what I saw when looking online (maybe because it was the weekend?) Payment could only be done on the phone, with more fees added and I saw several visitors staring at their phone in front of the signs, confused about the procedure. I think it's a fair price if you stay all day, but wish there was hourly rate parking available for those who don't. Naturally park food and rides are not cheap, but well in line with other amusement parks and tourist spots, so that was expected. The boardwalk needs MORE bathrooms. Outside of restrooms we only found one small bathroom underneath the shopping area, with long lines on a cool spring day.

I really wanted to like this place but it wasn't very fun at all. An all day ride pass is the best way to go but we were only planning on riding 3 rides so there was no point getting one. The rides are never all open at one time. The ones we wanted to ride were either closed or delayed. Luckily we stayed long enough to get to ride the Boardwalk Bullet at least (which was the best part of the boardwalk). The staff is not very friendly and most acted like they hated their jobs which brings down the mood of everyone! The one exception was the photo booth lady and she was amazing! None of the games were open which was depressing and some of the stores didn't open until 1pm or later. We wanted to eat at Joe's crab Shack but were told (quite rudely) that it was a 45 minute wait even though there were plenty of tables open! We did not have a good time and will not be back!

We love the place been going 2 times a year for 3 years. This years experience wasn’t good. We payed for 2 rooms and kept calling to make sure everything was in as normal and they kept telling us yes. We get there and everything is closed no fireworks like usual there were only a few things open. The service was not good especially when we had questions of why they told us everything was open normal.

Great place for kids and family. Nice & clean.

There are rides for kids and yourself. There's also an arcade & carnival games. They have unlimited rides for $18.99 kids height 48" under and $24.99 for height above 48". You can also get individual rides for different prices.

Multiple restaurants to eat at and different places to shop and buy local items. You can also sit on the pier and watch boats glide by.

Parking garage is $9.

RIDE THE BULLET! Boardwalk Bullet is a very fun wooden coaster. If you are in the Houston area, I recommend to go out to Kemah and ride it!

My husband and I went there as part of our city pass. We didn't expect much, but it was so much worse than we could have imagined. There were a total of 4 people, that we could find, running the rides; including the train. We waited 10 minutes to ride the tiny carousel. While waiting the woman with a young child told us the person running the ride was not mister cheerful. She wasn't exaggerating at all. He didn't explain anything about the ride, stood there and let people on for almost 15 minutes after we had waited 10 minutes for him in the first place. Once the ride finally went I am fairly certain he didn't run it the whole time, it was very short. He never spoke to anyone either.
I work at an amusement park in Florida and was amazed they had such low standards for employees.
The train driver was just as bad. No explanation on safety, no mirrors to watch people behind her, that one is on the park though.
The only bright point was Bubba Gump, the food was excellent and our server was great!

Kemah Boardwalk was the first thing that we did after arriving in Houston. There were supposedly “a lot” of rides but many of them were closed. The schedule was quite unreliable. For instance, the AirLiner was open when we first got there, but then soon after closed. The Boardwalk Bullet was delayed and it did on but later in the day which we were able to ride. Even the HypnoSpin and the blue Boardwalk Tower closed for a period of time. There were no boardwalk games, but maybe it’s too early in the season. It was quite windy and cold, which we realize is not the park’s fault. They were very few grab and go food options other than fried foods, but there were many dine-in restaurants available. We thought that the selection of rides was good and that there were some for older kids and some for younger kids and families. We did not see any of the street entertainers or music on the Sunday that we went. I would be very hesitant to spend $50 a person for the day (we had the CityPass) but if you’re really interested in going I would get tickets just for the rides you want to go on.

Beast? closed. Bullet? closed. Train? closed. Observation tower? closed. Zip line? closed. Arcade? Closed. There were about three shops and a few kiddy rides open. If you want to fight horrible traffic through never-ending construction, walk around and look at rides that can't be ridden, then eat one of the most expensive lunches you've ever paid for, this is the place for you.

They let their customers get away with everything. I had an argument with another patron and because she was screaming the loudest she got her way.

They fire employees that follow the rules and they reward customers that ruin the experience for others. It’s crazy!

Our mistake was not reviewing before we went. Don’t make the same Mistake!! If you go during the week, like we did, then you are better off not going at all. There was great foot traffic and lines, non too long, at most attractions. The problem is that the park rotates employees between attractions. So you could stand for 30 minutes before someone would even come to start letting people on. Better hope that you make the cut to ride, or you have to wait for them to come back. Concession stands? Forget about it. Closed. All of of them. Shops? Closed. Only some restaurants were open, a few that were too high class for our two year old and Bubba Gump. That’s it. The place seemed almost like a ghost town where people used to have fun. No price breaks were givin for the park saving money. As we left, rather disappointed, we noticed the lack of screams and laughter that are usually associated with these fun escapes. Next time we are in town we will find somewhere else to enjoy.

Now let me say our visit was during COVID, so I am sure pre--COIVD this place was nice and probably a great place to stop, shop, eat and have fun. However, currently in August 2020, this place is a ghost town. All retail shops are closed, games closed, only three restaurants (Landry's, Saltgrass Steakhouse and Bubba Gump Shrimp) are open and only 4-5 rides currently operational (which you have to pay $27 for 1 adult to ride). At night, if you just walk to walk around and look at the water with the boardwalk lit up then that could be nice. If you are going for the shopping, rides and fun; then maybe hold off until the boardwalk is back to 100% operations.

Now, Galveston Pleasure Pier is almost exactly like Kemah Boardwalk and they are 100% operational currently, so if this is the kind of attraction you are looking for that may be your better choice until Kemah can get back up and running again.

We were disappointed in our visit; yet still keeping in mind it was mostly due to COVID affecting the operations of the boardwalk.
