Join one of Wales' top Mine Explorers on an exploration of a virtually untouched abandoned Welsh Slate Mine. First worked in 1836 and abandoned by the miners in the early 1970s, more than 130 years of mining history is captured inside waiting to be discovered. It's as if the mine has just closed. Machinery, tools, even the candles and discarded cigarette packets are still in place as the miners left them. Corris Mine Explorers gives you the opportunity to visit these abandoned slate mine workings, to step into the tough working lives of the miners and of past generations. 3 trips to choose from: 1 hour Taster, 2 hour Mine Explorer and a Half Day Mine Expedition. Advance Booking Essential.

Corris Mine Explorers trips start from the Corris Craft Centre, a finalist in the National Tourism Awards 2015 for Best Day Out!

Mark the guide gave me the highlight of my week in Wales. His enthusiastic approach to the tour rubbed off on the whole group, the willingness to answer any question by taking you to a part of the mine to answer your question by showing you. Clearly each trip is flexible to suit each group. Thoroughly enjoyed the climbing up... More

My family (kids age 10 & 12) did the 2-hour trip with Mark and it was easily a highlight of our trip to Wales. We also did the King Arthur's Labyrinth as the wife was afraid it might not be appropriate for kids, but this was so much more interesting. The tour is fun and Mark did a terrific job... More

Highlight of our week in snowdonia. Our tour guide Mark really makes it, his knowledge and charisma pair fantastically. After my daughter and I sat in the cafe and chatted about our experience for hours :-) you have to go

I organised for a group of mainly retired friends from my walking group to go into the mine for a two hour visit as part of a lad's awayday to Aberdovey. Without exception all them found it absorbing and interesting. Mark aka Moley was a superb guide with fantastic knowledge of all aspects whether it be geology or social history... More

I cannot rate Corris Mine highly enough!! Corris prides itself by not being a money driven company, but runs on passion for the mine. Me and my partner went for a two hour tour, which was not long enough. The mine is a totally different world to explore, and the whole mine takes days to adventure. We wanted to stay... More

A fabulous review, thank you so much. Our guide is Mark (perhaps he was chatting with you about Andy Murray at Wimbledon - he is a huge tennis fan!) and your comments about him are amazing, I will pass them onto him. We look forward to seeing you when you return for our Half Day Mine Expedition. More

We had a brilliant time on a tour of this old slate mine. The guide Mark "moley" really knows all about the history and geology of slate mining. He kept all of us engaged for nearly two hours underground - quite something when our family group of six included an 8 year old girl, one 14 year old girl, mum... More

We saw this place whilst looking at Trip Advisor for the area. There was some question about whether we did the hour or two hour tour. We chose the two hour one and were glad we did. I would suggest that you book ahead as some tours don't run without a minimum number. We booked ahead (two days)and found when... More

An excellent guide mark "moley" took us in a group of 10 people on an excellent tour in the corris slate mine. Plenty of really interesting information about the mines long history. Had our 10 year old grandson with us who loved especially when he had a go using the 7lb sledge hammer to drive a pin into the wall...all... More

This and climbing Snowden on a clear day were the highlights of our trip to North Wales. We are a family of 4, (13 and 15 year old daughters) and everyone loved it. We booked for 2 hours, but I would highly recommend booking the half day, which is what I would book now. Mark was a fantastic guide, full... More

Our family had a brilliant time exploring the abandoned mines on a 2 hour trip - much, much better than expected. Mark (Moley) is a fantastic tour guide with a brilliant sense of humour (and very patient when we spent ages finding the correct size wellies!) The safely briefing and shoe change didn't affect the time down the mine, which... More
