Join one of Wales' top Mine Explorers on an exploration of a virtually untouched abandoned Welsh Slate Mine. First worked in 1836 and abandoned by the miners in the early 1970s, more than 130 years of mining history is captured inside waiting to be discovered. It's as if the mine has just closed. Machinery, tools, even the candles and discarded cigarette packets are still in place as the miners left them. Corris Mine Explorers gives you the opportunity to visit these abandoned slate mine workings, to step into the tough working lives of the miners and of past generations. 3 trips to choose from: 1 hour Taster, 2 hour Mine Explorer and a Half Day Mine Expedition. Advance Booking Essential.

Corris Mine Explorers trips start from the Corris Craft Centre, a finalist in the National Tourism Awards 2015 for Best Day Out!

Great Value Slate mine adventure.

Would recomend the longer tour as a great day out. Once kitted up and up/down the mine you'll have a great time. Mr Mole is an excellent guide and your totally in safe hands.

Reading the reviews, and looking at the weather, we went for the 2hr tour. I have 2 children of 11yrs and I wasn't sure if I'd made the right decision till we got taken into the mine, through the waterfall! It was an instant hit with one and the other just needed a quick re-assuring word from our fantastic guide.... More

Thank you for your brilliant review. The waterfall that you refer to is created naturally following persistent heavy rainfall, it's quite a spectacle and exciting to walk through too! We're pleased that you learned so much and look forward to showing you more when you return for the Half Day Mine Expedition. More

Our family (Two adults two kids, 14 and 11) really enjoyed the taster session which was supposed to be an hour but which our superb guide, Mark, extended to nearer 2 hours. The mine is fascinating but it is Mark's skill as an interesting and humorous guide which made this an outstanding visit for us. Thanks again!

Having done quite a few mine tours around the country at various types of mine I can honestly say that this was the best mine tour we have ever been on. Mark (mole) the tour guide is exceptionally knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the mine and the tours, making the whole experience incredibly enjoyable. If you want a more hands on... More

Today we turned up, me in pink wellies, to Corris Mine Explorers. On turning up we noticed that King Arthur's Labyrinth was in the same place (remember this for later). We did the obligatory toilet stop and then waited, albeit a matter of seconds, for our guide Mark. We were taken through to kit up and then put on the... More

Thank you for your amazingly detailed review. We are so pleased that you had so much fun on the Corris Mine Explorers trip. As you point out, we have different routes which don't involve as much climbing and scrambling for different levels of ability and for explorers preferring to take an easier route but it is, by no means, a... Kids really enjoyed this two hour adventure walking along narrow tunnels and into big caverns. Interesting old mining bits and pieces left from when the mines closed down. Hosted by Moley (Mark) who knows the mine like the back of his hand. Very informative. Party small enough to ask lots of questions. He was very patient but firm, especially with... More

Thank you for your great review, we are really pleased that you and your children had so much fun. The head torches and battery packs that we use are replicas of those used by the last generation of miners to work at Braich Goch in the 1960s / 1970s therefore providing explorers with a really authentic experience. I'm sorry but... More

The four of us (Two adults and two children, 11 & 8) went on an hour taster session and it was one of the best experiences we have had. Mark was fun, knew his stuff and made us feel comfortable and safe. He engaged the children brilliantly and answered all of their questions and made the trip really special.

We could only do the one hour taster due to the age of the children, but it was absolutely amazing, kids were astounded and we will be returning next year to do another trip, many thanks to our guide Mark for making it a memorable trip, would advise anyone to go, well worth every penny.

Mark the guide gave me the highlight of my week in Wales. His enthusiastic approach to the tour rubbed off on the whole group, the willingness to answer any question by taking you to a part of the mine to answer your question by showing you. Clearly each trip is flexible to suit each group. Thoroughly enjoyed the climbing up... More

My family (kids age 10 & 12) did the 2-hour trip with Mark and it was easily a highlight of our trip to Wales. We also did the King Arthur's Labyrinth as the wife was afraid it might not be appropriate for kids, but this was so much more interesting. The tour is fun and Mark did a terrific job... More
