Fantastic wines! There wasn’t one wine that was not worth tasting. Ben takes such pride in his wine making and it really shows in the quality of his products. Make sure to make a reservation because you don’t want to miss out on this one. The property doesn’t look like much, but the tasting room is unique and the wines are fantastic.

Seriously some of the best wines being made in Texas!! Do yourself a favor and set up a tasting. One note is that there isn’t a lounge area to hang out at after, so plan for around 45 min and then move to the next winery. But hands down the best wines we tasted!!

Mary was our tasting guide. These wines were our favorite out of all the wineries we visited. Mary gave us a history of each wine we tried and was extremely knowledgeable. We wouldn’t have found the winery if it wasn’t for John Mead from Texanwinwtours.com. We will be back.

We enjoyed our reserve tasting at the wine maker’s table at Calais for my husband’s birthday. We were fortunate to have Ben, the winemaker, as our tasting guide. Ben is passionate about winemaking and it is definitely reflected in the quality of his wines. If you love deep, rich, complex reds, then you will love Calais wines. This is a Superb boutique wine experience.

A superb tasting of their range of wines ranging from very good to excellent. Met the winemaker pouring his wines which is always a plus. An intimate fun and enlightening tasting, Texas wine is big time. Cabernet and Gravitas blend are first rate.

This is by far the BEST wine in Hye! This is a true boutique winery and the tastings are held in a bunker, yes I said bunker. Ben is the owner, wine maker and his knowledge is crazy!!! There is a reason his wine sells out almost immediately after it is released. The tasting is worth the $40 fee. I would never in my life ever think this is Texas wine. It is robust and so smooth. Best wine around.
You have to have a reservation, but I am telling you it is a must go while you are in the area.
You will thank me!

The wife and I celebrated an early Valentines and made an appointment to taste wines from Calais Winery. What a treat to have the owner wine maker himself, Ben Calais pouring and explaining each wine. The knowledge he shared was very enlightening. So happy he is involved in our 100% Texas wine effort.

Calais winery is a must stop while visiting the wineries on 290. You have to make an appointment in order to do a wine tasting, but it is limited to 10 people (I think). From the outside the Winery doesn't look like much, but walk in and you're greeted with a very modern and new building. Benjamin Calais does the wine tasting himself and explains in detail his process of producing that wine and why. It's great and personable and you can really see the passion in his product and how it translate to a great product. I highly recommend everyone go see Benjamin at Calais!

Trying to find the place was crazy. There was a white pickup truck next to a homemade sign and French flag marking the caliche road. The road brings you to a cellar with a couple of wooden doors. Should you dare to enter, you will be treated to some of the best red wine to be found in the state.

Ben (the owner and winemaker) is truly passionate about his wines and it shows. He has the best wines in the area by a mile. You must make reservations but the effort is well rewarded with entertaining conversation and outstanding wines. If you only visit one winery, this is the one.
