Went here for an afternoon walk as the weather was nice. The car parks were very busy and there were a lot of people enjoying the sunshine. Although it was busy there it was still very quiet and peaceful, I was surprised how quiet. Some people were fishing others having a bbq. We enjoyed the trails as did others. It... More

Being that I am a TPWD employee, I am biased. The staff was so welcoming, the facilities were beautiful and kayaking on the lake was incredibly fun.

Best woodland birdwatching close to Houston. Unfortunately, so close to Houston that most of Houston goes to it. 20 years ago, when Houston was half its current size, this place was outstanding. Quiet, even on a weekend. Now you pretty much have to hike way back into the woods to get close to nature and lose the feeling of a... More

My son and I were in Huntsville and remembered how beautiful the state park was in our previous short visit. So we spent Saturday night at Huntsville state park. We had no reservation and the ladies at the check in office helped us nicely. We rented a screened shelter (which had electricity and water) so it felt more like a... More

First and foremost this park is beautiful ! OK now here is the down and dirty as one would say. GOOD: scenery, trails maintained, little to no-foot traffic on the trails, very clean park, NO large dangerous wildlife "bears, mountain lions, and rattle snakes", family or large group friendly BAD: humidity, mosquitoes, fee to enter the park, sandy trails, roots... Plenty of shade at the trails. Some of the trails were closed due to construction; however, you're able to get around. Although we only walked one trail, we will definitely return on a next visit. I recommend an annual pass for $70 if you intend to continue visiting State Parks in Texas. It's a great deal. Park restroom was very... More

Great park not far up the road from Houston on I-45 North. Many fine campsites, hiking & biking trails. Paddle sports on Raven Lake. The park can get crowded so make your arrangements ahead of time in prime season - fall & spring.

Huntsville state park has a lot of hiking trails good for beginner to advanced hikers. Nice place to go for a feeling of being out in the woods.

The park is well kept. The staff is nice. There are lots of nice camp sites including screened in sites and AC cabins. We caught a few fish.

We brought our family out to explore the park and certain parts of the park was extremely busy-near the store and swimming area. Some of the groups were very loud. However, we were able to find a spot away from the crowd. There are several trails for hiking/biking and those were so peaceful and easy enough for a family with... More
