I have always enjoyed landmarks especially roadside ones. My teens thought it was really weird to visit but quickly changed their minds once they say the enormity of the statue. This will b something they will always remember

This statue of Sam Houston stands 77 feet tall, and you can see it from the highway but be sure and stop in the visitor center and gift shop. We spoke with one of the volunteers there, who knows the history of the statue and can answer all your questions about it and the area, plus is able to inform... More

Great place to stop and learn a little history of the state of Texas. There is lots of free parking at the Sam Houston Statue and Visitor Center so that you don't have to park on the interstate. Beautiful area and fun for all ages to have your picture taken with Big Sam!

Being a native Texan, we know the history of Sam Houston. But, it is great to have such an impressive statue to remind us of our heritage. This is a beautiful setting right adjacent to Northbound I-45. Unfortunately, the proximity to the interstate detracts from the natural beauty and sounds of the park. It is definitely worth the time and... More

I have driven by this statue and seen pictures, but today was the first to stop and go see it. It is amazing! I can't believe I did come here sooner.

This is a great place to stop along I45 for a nice break. Just off the highway you can get to see big Sam up close and learn a little Texas history in the process. The Statue is very impressive and beautifully situated among the pines. Picnic tables are located within the grounds with great shade from the trees if... More

I love that feeling of cresting the hill at the mile 106 marker, driving north on I-45, and seeing Sam way in the distance. An impressive landmark as one approaches. Used to be quiet, but the increasing population in this area has made it progressively more overrun. Watch out for the dangerous and illegal parking on the shoulder of the... More
