Had a really interesting afternoon/evening at the Rodeo.
The actual rodeo was pretty interesting, with Brad Paisley to finish the show
The exhibits around the show were interesting, but huge crowds made it hard to move around

The people that go there are very nice , very welcoming . The workers are not! When we got tickets (we had the FASTPASS) to get on the carnival rides … every single worker made us WAIT until the people who did not have the fast pass make sure they got in FIRST . They didn’t even pay for the fast pass & the money for tickets … is a WASTE ! The workers screamed at us to go back in the line … MIND YOU , WE HAVE THE FAST PASS AND WE SHOWED IT & still made us go to back for the regular line so we just left that ride . The tickets will last you 3 rides and that’s it . It’s a waste & are WAY TOO OVERPRICED. Overall the food and rodeo … is a great place to go with friends or whoever you love to be with! The only improvements that I recommend for next year is hiring more respectful & nicer workers . Cheaper food , CHEAPER TICKETS .

The rodeo is simply entertaining! There are rodeo itself, concert, livestock show and carnival all into ones. For us, it was worth it because there are entertaining and educational and supporting local business. Went and enjoyed all. We have been to big theme parks and for us the carnival is fun; full of people but shorter lines like 20-30mins max. Did not even need the fast pass on a Saturday. With tix required between 12-20 tickets, we spent about 350 tickets for family of 5 and decent 4-5 rides. The livestock is huge, we manage to cover the rabbit, egg hatching and petting zoo was too good to miss! Rodeo was 3 hours, plenty of food choice like pizza, nachos in stadium and of course Brad Paisley’s show does not disappoint. Went there weekend, before 10am left about 9pm, no problem with getting in and out of green parking lot. Not sure about other parking lots/tram/metro though. After waiting since 2020, absolutely worth going!

Do wear a pair of comfortable shoes! Lots of walking. It’s been a number of years since I was here and enjoyed both times. Loads of food, entertainment, rides, vendors etc. I am curious about one thing, who goes to this event to purchase a mattress?

We had such a great day at the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show from start to finish! We spent the early part of the day wandering around the carnival area and taking lots of photos! We spent several hours in the NRG Center watching the livestock shows and visiting all of the vendors--we did some good shopping in there!
We grabbed lunch in the food tents outside and then spent a good part of the afternoon in the wine garden sampling local wines, snacking and listening to live music--it was a pretty perfect way to spend the afternoon.
The rodeo itself was so much fun--I'd never been to one before (it literally was my first rodeo). From the opening parade to the bucking broncos to the barrel racers to the bull riders, it was all very exciting!
We didn't care much for the band that played the concert after the rodeo, so we didn't stay for that, but if we had, I can only imagine how much a live concert adds to the fun! We were exhausted after a long day anyways!

We have been to many small rodeos and bill rides, but nothing of this magnitude. The rodeo itself was so fun to watch and little did we know a man from approximately 45 minutes away from our hometown in MN was bull riding that evening! Inexpensive and well worth the money! We were in the nose bleeds, but could still see everything and the screens helped. The concert that night was Luke Bryan, who never disappoints!

The HLSR is always fun. It is crowded and filled with people from all over the world. All the animals are fun to watch. The building needed some attention. The garbage cans were overflowing. The floors were dirty, but the restrooms were fairly clean. The prices of all the food and drinks have gone really high so be prepared. The midway stays crowded. The traffic coming into and leaving NRG is awful but we parked in one of the free lots and took the bus in. The ride was 10 minutes each way. And I know the shows are wonderful. Overall it’s a great time.

The Houston livestock show and rodeo has everything from live concerts to carnival rides and a little southern charm. Not to mention some of the best food and drink you’ll ever have the pleasure of tasting. You WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!

I guess the high prices are part of the Rodeo experience, eat before you come down to see the show unless you just want to spend the money , but the show is very good to see.

If you have bought a ticket for the concert that night you will have automatic access to the fairgrounds and the buildings but you will have to pay for tickets to ride the rides

How do we get tickets for this? Is it pay on the door, or buy in advance? How much does it cost for an adult for a day? Is it possible to get there by public transport or does it have to be by car? Thank you.

You have lots of questions!
1. They will announce all of the Rodeo performers tomorrow and the 3 Friday performers on Feb 4. I don't know why.
2. Most of the tickets (all of the decent ones) are in season tickets. They will put the single performers on sale at some point later this week, but most of those seats are upper deck. The lower deck tix are $30 and they upper deck less. The club level a bit more. There are great screens, but.....
3. StubHub has lots of offerings, but.....
4. You can also just pay to go to the carnival and livestock show.
5. Transportation: since I don't know where you'll be coming from, I can only tell you what goes by NRG. There is a light rail from downtown and points in between. It stops at NRG. There are points around the city where you can park your car and catch a bus straight to NRG. Uber goes there, but trying to get one after the show is a LONG wait.
6. It's all lots of fun----enjoy!

Are rodeos in may?

Rodeo usually starts end of February and runs through 2nd or 3rd week in March
If you pay to watch the rodeo, does that include the concert? Or do you have to pay extra to stay for concert.

Included in concert. But if you want to do the games/Carnival part then it will be a separate fee.

Are there rodwa shows all year long or is it seasonal? Any idea about the schedule for september 2019
MZP232

They are not all year round at the NRG stadium. There is one in Galveston in September which is a couple hours from Houston. Billy Bob's in Dallas/Ft. Worth has a lot of small rodeos but that's pretty far from Houston. If you use your search engine using Houston Calendar of Events, you can see what's happening in September 2019.

My son and I are visiting a friend and her son in March. We are going to attend the rodeo and carnival for a day. My question is about the carnival passes. Should we buy our boys who are 12 and 13 each their own carnival pass or could they share the $50 package, which includes 150 tickets? I’ve heard the rides are expensive but my son is not a big ride person. Thanks!

The most popular thrill rides can require a number of ticket so they can go through them quickly.
For concerts do you have to be there exactly at 6:45pm or can you come later when the entertainer takes the stage
angelaholland1
Houston, TX16 contributions
Yes, you may arrive later. The rodeo begins at 6:45 p.m.; the concert typically starts around 8 or 8:30 p.m., and lasts about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. Another tip: If you're close to one of the park and ride locations, use those for trips to and from the rodeo/concert. NRG parking can be as high as $12/$15 vs $4 (for the Metro Bus) or $7 in the Rodeo Park and Ride lots.

Hi All,
Looking at visiting Texas mid to late April 19 and want to visit the rodeo. Can anyone tell me where I should be looking for the best action?
Thank you.

Not sure what Rodeo’s will be April 19 but the Houston Livestock show and Rodeo which is one of the largest is February 24- March 17 2019. Sorry but hope this helps some.
