I love to visit cemeteries for the history and art.....this place did not disappoint. It is beautiful, very tranquil. Hard to believe you are in the middle of Houston. Trees keep everything shaded so even on my 93 degree afternoon it was nice enough to walk around for over an hour. I was only able to maybe a quarter of it so I will be back.

We spent several hours wandering around here and enjoyed seeing the diverse headstones. We especially loved the many angel statues here. We did see many historical markers of some early Houstonians and Texians and would like to return to see more. The cemetery is well planned out and maintained with winding roads and large old oak trees. It's a beautiful peaceful place!

This is such a beautiful, peaceful, and historic cemetery. Many of Houstons rich and famous (Howard Hughs) are buried here. The grave markers and sculptures are amazing. Its close to downtown and the Heights. Great place for pictures!!

Happened upon this cemetery one day driving
Little did I Know this was a whose who of Houston history. They are all here and Howard Hughes is buried here to. The grounds are beautiful, all kept and rolling hills that meander for what seems miles of path way.
Definitely worth a drive and look. Just read the names

Glenwood is one of the few really interesting historic places in Houston and is beautiful. From the traditional plots and monuments of the oldest Houston families to the modern grave site of Howard Hughes. This is a lovely place for an easy and convenient visit.

Glenwood is one of the most visited cemeteries in America. In a city whose topography is primarily flat, it has rolling hills, tons of huge trees, beautiful markers and lots of Houston history. It's practically in the shadow of downtown Houston, located very near Buffalo Bayou. Such a serene experience.

Glenwood Cemetery is a lovely place for a walk. Towering trees and immaculately kept landscaping make for beautiful surroundings. Many of Houston’s founding fathers are buried here. Howard Hughes is buried here along with celebrities who are buried here or own elaborate burial plots , some with amazing structures on them. Highly recommended for a refreshing walk during the cooler months.

As a landscape architect with a few hours to spare on a business trip, I visited Glenwood and was impressed by the beauty and uniqueness of this cemetery. I spent 2.5 hrs walking the property, sitting under the Oaks, taking pictures, and reading headstones. So glad I found this special place to explore.

It's a cemetery and I apologize for the pun in the title. BUT, it's a Great cemetery with graves of a large number of historical figures associated with the city of Houston, including many famous doctors(Debakey), politicians (Hobby) and of course the infamous Howard Hughes. Many more. The grounds are immaculately maintained and the century old trees defy description. If you are lucky you can arrange a tour through Preservation Houston.
