- Ann G1 contributionThis was an interesting visit and we learned a lot, even having read about Mahatma Gandhi in the past. We had two excellent guides, one for the history section and one for the present and future section--encouraging each one of us to continue Mahatma Gandhi's legacy of nonviolent conflict resolution. I would recommend to everyone, especially school children to learn peaceful conflict resolution for a life time of peace.Thank you for visiting the Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston, Ann. We are delighted to hear that you found your visit interesting and informative. Our guides work hard to provide a comprehensive understanding of Mahatma Gandhi's message of nonviolent conflict resolution. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to see you again in the future.Written July 8, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 2, 2024
- Venture51026847194San Antonio, Texas2 contributionsThe Eternal Gandhi Museum opened in 2023 and is a beautiful, educational and inspiring museum, located in Southwest Houston. It provides a detailed history of Gandhi's life and work, placing it in the context of both Indian history and Indian culture, as well as the international scene at the time. Attention is also given to his time in England and in South Africa. The presentation of the material is both attractive and historically sound, and it's that rare museum that can successfully keep children engaged and interested while also working on an adult level. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the price was reasonable for what you got. We spent about 90-100 minutes there. This is truly a hidden gem in Houston, and I hope it gets discovered by more locals and more tourists (we were visiting from San Antonio). Anyone who would be inclined to visit a museum dedicated to a major figure in non-violent protest, anti-colonialism, and peace and understanding (and respecting other cultures), should be very happy with The Eternal Gandhi Museum. Highly recommended.Visited February 2025Traveled with familyWritten February 8, 2025
- Grandiosa987 contributionsI visited the museum with my college alumni club. I thought I was knowledgeable about Gandhi and his teachings, however, I was really pleased to see this museum fill in the gaps for me on his early life and other milestones that I was missing. The museum is organized well and is highly interactive. The docents are excellent and were able to accommodate our group of 10+ people. I highly recommend visiting this museum if you are in the Houston area. It is great for all ages!Thank you for visiting the Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston with your college alumni club. - Jeanicia E7 contributionsIf you're in Houston and even remotely curious about history, peace, or just need some good vibes, you *have* to check out the Eternal Gandhi Museum! I swung by today, and let me tell you, it was like stepping into a whole different world—one where calm and inspiration rule the day. Right when you walk in, you're greeted by the warm, inviting scent of burning incense, which sets the perfect mood for the experience ahead. It's like the universe telling you to take a deep breath and soak it all in. The exhibits are fantastic—seriously, they’ve got everything from interactive displays to amazing artifacts that really make Gandhi's life and message hit home. Plus, the multimedia presentations are super engaging, so you won’t find yourself yawning in front of a dusty old exhibit. One of my favorite parts? The section that dives into Gandhi's influence on global leaders and movements. It really drove home how his teachings are still so relevant today. You’ll walk out feeling like you’ve just had a masterclass in how one person can spark change. And shoutout to the staff—they’re super friendly and clearly love what they do. They’re more than happy to chat and share even more cool stories and details about Gandhi’s life. Long story short: Whether you’re a history nerd, a peace lover, or just looking for something cool to do on a weekend, the Eternal Gandhi Museum is a total win. You’ll leave with a full heart, a clearer mind, and maybe even a new perspective on how to tackle the world.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 31, 2024
- SA W1 contributionWe went with our Girl Scout troop on a Saturday morning. The docent-led tour facilitated by Ms. McCloud was wonderful! She spoke using language and connections the girls could understand while preserving the integrity and power taught through Ghandi’s life. The layout of the museum starts with a small gift shop and introductory foyer, progressed through Ghandi’s life, and concluded with other influential people who were inspired by his nonviolent approach to tackling social and humanitarian issues. The exhibits include informational plaques in three languages with impactful photos and quotes recounting various events. There are interactive components and short videos projected onto canvas screens and display cases with artifacts as well. The outdoor courtyard is inviting and relaxing. The items in the gift shop are reasonably priced and purposeful. This is a great place to learn and reflect for children and adults.Visited November 2024Traveled with friendsWritten November 16, 2024
- Discover682888824481 contributionThe staff and docents at the Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston were extremely helpful and accommodating. We brought a small group of 8th graders to the museum that had been studying the life of Gandhi as part of their world history curriculum and the museum tour was essential in bringing these stories to life. The building and grounds are beautifully designed and a feeling of peace and wellness prevails. We highly recommend this experience for families and class trips.Visited April 2024Traveled on businessWritten May 11, 2024
- Kathleen W1 contributionWhat an amazing & beautiful place. Small museum but so well laid out with the life of Gandhi. The statues of Gandhi were so lifelike you felt like he was there with you. The docent who gave the talk was very well educated about the life of Gandhi and the history of India. Would highly recommend this Museum to anyone in the area.Visited November 2024Traveled with friendsWritten November 12, 2024

The experience was truly eye-opening and inspiring, offering a profound glimpse into Mahatma Gandhi's remarkable life and legacy. The museum's thoughtful curation and immersive exhibits made Gandhi's philosophy and values feel remarkably relevant and urgent, even in today's world. I firmly believe that his message of non-violence, compassion, and empathy should be shared with every student worldwide, inspiring future generations to strive for a more just and peaceful world. - Tai I1 contributionToday, we took our Girl Scout troop to the Gandhi Museum to learn about social justice. It was an amazing experience for our girls (ages 6-11). We all learned so much (adults included). Our GS troop left inspired, grateful, and motivated to support positive change in our communities. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our outstanding guide, Ms. McCloud. You can tell that she loves her job. She was so knowledgeable, energetic and she asked the kids lots of powerful questions. Make time to visit this beautiful museum. It will be well worth your time!Visited November 2024Traveled with friendsWritten November 16, 2024

A must see museum, not only for those wanting to learn more about Gandhi but perhaps even more so for those who don't know much about the man and his philosophy of civil disobedience and non-violence.
From the architecture (outside and inside) to the exhibits and, yes, even the small gift shop, this museum exudes a dedication by the women and men who brought it to fruition over many years of hard work.
Everything is tastefully done and well thought out - there is a great mixture of visual, audio and text so that you don't' feel overwhelmed by having to get through so much information in a short amount of time. This truly tells the life story of Gandhi from birth to his assassination and includes many references to the great figures in history who came after him that were influenced by him
You simply cannot miss this gem whether you're visiting Houston or have lived here for many years.

The Eternal Gandhi Museum was an unbelievable experience. Undoubtedly, one of the most immersive and beautiful museums that I have ever visited. What stood out to me was how interactive the museum experience is, with several stations where visitors can listen to and learn about stories on challenges in Gandhi's life.
From the incredible and very unique theater in the museum to the closing experience where visitors set goals on how they see themselves changing the world, the Eternal Gandhi Museum of Houston is an experience that I recommend highly for everyone. The museum truly immerses visitors in Gandhi's life and inspires them to be the change that they wish to see in the world.

It was a pleasant surprise to find such enlightened thinking in Texas. The museum is impressive in its construction and exhibits. The museum director walked through the exhibits with us - courteous and attentive, informative and factual. Very impressed that all the various communities of India are well represented, with appropriate focus on the Mahatma. The final section ... our own journey as a result of visiting the museum will be enriched by including a booth on "what would Gandhi say about present day conditions in the world and particularly in India". From this thought can flow our own actions, our own direction of our journey. I will strongly recommend anyone and everyone I know to visit the museum. Thank you for making his legacy available to all of us.

I had some time to fill today, July 19, 2023, so stopped at the Eternal Gandhi Museum because it was on the way.
But the lobby was still under construction, and not yet open. As I turned to leave, one fellow working on it introduced me to another, the Museum’s Director. They then ushered me through a back door, turned on the lights, showed me around, and left me to explore.
Gandhi would have been proud
And the museum is really, really great. Parents & teachers — bring your kids. They need to know, as I learned from Gandhi today: “The enemy is fear. We think it is hate, but it is really fear.”

Amazing!! The exhibits are artful but simple. The layout of the museum flows well. I loved how the incorporated Gandhi’s quotes into the messages of subsequent leaders. Interactive and relevant. A must see for children and adults alike. While the museum is about Gandhi, the message is universal.

This interactive museum is perfect for an educational family activity or to bring a group of children. The staff was so friendly and walked us through the different parts of the small exhibit area. My 12 year old remained engaged the entire time. I learned so much about this inspirational figure and the people he influenced in various ways. Definitely recommend!

The docent was knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what she was teaching people. The museum itself was very well curated, clean, educational, and had just the right amount of information on each exhibit. I wasn't overwhelmed with info, and I learned a ton. We stopped by for an hour and a half and had a lovely experience!

Simply amazing, one of a kind, awesome museum. First Gandhi museum in US
Be sure to take the time to read Gandhi's writings that fill the walls. I thought that as a leadership ethics I was humbled to read these passages, most of which I had not seen before.

This Museum is a hidden gem. We are visiting from Canada and did not expect to find a Human Rights Museum in Texas. The theme of justice , peace and ultimately love is woven throughout the museum. It also sheds a light on other social justice warriors like MLK and Nelson Mandela. The Museum volunteer lead us on a personal and interactive tour. She was amazing. A must for everyone. The time is now to act to promote peace in the world.
