A fabulous “Christmas Carol” at the Alley Theater!
I love Dickens “Christmas Carol” and have enjoyed the Alley production for many years. My first time to see this production and what a surprise! It was a combination of tradition and energizing new components - both in production and scripting. The diversity of performers, the tidbits of humor, the intensity of the ghosts yet appropriate for young audiences. Watching the audience - they laughed, applauded the highlights and intently listened to the narration. We thought it was fabulous. Change can be challenging for those who value tradition - but this production reflects the diversity of Houston and it matters.

    Is this play about us?
Such a fun time! I went to alley theater to see Clue with my mother. It was actually for an assignment for a theater class I took at UH. Really nice set up, views from the balcony, and atmosphere!! PS Everyone dressed differently, though everyone was leaning more formal than not. Some were business casual with jeans, others were business formal.

Great Acting and Impressive Special Effects at This Small, Intimate Theater
We came to see Dial M for Murder at the Alley, and it was a fantastic show. This is a small, intimate theater, not a bad seat in the house really. The acting was excellent as always, lots of twists and turns to the show, with some great special effects - they even made it rain inside the theater. They're doing an Agatha Christie play later in the summer; we look forward to seeing that one too. You can grab a drink and light snacks at intermission, and there's a beautiful view of downtown from their outdoor balcony. Credit card only as they don't accept cash. Paid parking is available in an underground garage across the street. I love that this is a resident theater with such a strong company of actors and has been operating since the 1940s. For us, the Summer Chills series are always lots of fun, and we'll continue to come back year after year.

My husband and I went for the performance of A Christmas Carol on Nov. 21st. I received a text message from the Alley Theatre about ten days before the performance telling me that we would need a negative COVID test no more than 72 hours before the performance, or show proof of full vaccination. My husband drove an 80 mile round trip to have a test done. On the day of the performance, the attendants at the Alley Theatre did not ask for any type of documentation; not from me, or from him. They did not ask anyone for their documentation. My husband spent time and money going for a negative COVID test that he did not have to have! I do not appreciate being told admittance requirements only to have them ignored. If we had to have the negative test, then they should have asked for proof. He wasted his time having the test done. I do not understand why we were told these "rules" for admittance, then seeing that it didn't matter anyway. The negative test, or vaccination proof, was not required in order to see the show, but we were told that it would be. I am disappointed in the Alley Theatre for this reason.

AWFUL. JUST AWFUL! My family and I attended the Alley to see A Christmas Carol last week. We have been very loyal patrons of The Alley for the past 14 years and look forward to attending this play each year. It truly is one of the best nights of the season for all of us…until now.

The new rendition of A Christmas Carol is ridiculous. This is a classic story that should be told as such & not the mockery the Alley performed. We had 3 front row, center seats and during the “hip-hop” dance from the Christmas past scene, we stood up and walked out. Two other families left behind us.

I understand they felt the need to update their performance and make changes. However, they completely missed the mark with this version. I hope they return to the classic story and perform it in a way that is respectful and enjoyable. The play that was performed this year was down right inexcusable.

We came to the Alley to see their latest Sherlock Holmes play. It was great fun as always with resident actor Todd Waite playing the perfect Sherlock Holmes and Christopher Salazar as the hilarious Oscar Wilde. The set was beautiful and the acting superb. The theater is small and intimate, so there's really not a bad seat in the house. At intermission there's a nice outside balcony area where you can enjoy a drink or small snack and take in the pretty view of downtown. Surprised that they don't accept cash though; I had a ten dollar bill that they wouldn't accept and said credit cards only. Perhaps this a holdover from the pandemic, but it's not very convenient for patrons. I'm hoping that they'll start accepting cash again now that things are getting back to normal. They mentioned that they will be doing their annual Summer Chills series once again - always a fun Agatha Christie mystery or something similar. We look forward to coming back and enjoying that.

We saw Clue and were very impressed with the acting and set design. It was an all-around quality production, and the size of the theater is great, too. I would guess that there isn’t a bad seat in the house. I can’t wait to catch another production!

Attended the play “Dead Man’s Cell Phone” A great play and a great facility. We’ll worth the visit and value for your money. An intimate venue to see any play. Great last minute deal.

Don't hesitate to purchase tickets on the side areas of this Hubbard theatre at the Alley. We went to see "A Night with Janis Joplin" last night and not only was it an amazing show but the seats were perfect! Comfortable and easy to move around.

We purchased our tickets a day or so prior to the show and they were excellent and a good value (less expensive than the center section or further back a bit on the side). See my photo below of our side seat location. Don't hesitate to select this area shown in my photo.

I like Alley Theater just didn't really enjoy the Santa Land Diaries. The actor was good, I just don't think the script was that funny. It also had a lot of gay overtones to it and I am really sick of the overflow of gay influence in everything now...it is so over done these days...enough already, we get it.

we we’re subscribers for over ten years and enjoyed a great playhouse that presented real entertainment. They have devolved into a pretentious liberal messaging center. I really don’t like a play with hidden innuendos and agendas that want to rest my value system.

We loved this venue and were season subscribers for over a decade. Beforehand we subscribed to another theatre and there was a person who serviced the patrons/season subscribers. The service for subscribers just isn't there. So, we left and won't return. Oh, they contiuned to call, once a month. Just as they always did for those years. Each time they were asking for donations. In review, the actors are wonderful! The plays outstanding. Go for a single show, but don't expect customer service if you are a season ticket holder.
