Place was beautiful and magical straight to the minute when the waiter advised us that this is not Europe and we are in America and we have to tip him before we even taken the money out, which put me right off. It was rude...More

La Carafe is the first place I went to when I moved to Houston from Austin. I found it on a google search and the whole haunted wine bar story intrigued me, so I went to check it out. This is a really cool place...More

Love the ambience, old-school cash register and fantastic jukebox. Proof that sometimes new isn't better.

I have been going to this place for 30 years. It is small and lit by candles, the juke box plays music from 50's, 60's and 70's. This place is cash only. Only one table seats more than 2 people and the bathrooms are horrible....More

Have to always seek out the oldest bar in a city. La Carafe is that bar in Houston. Neat old place. Love the counter top and the old cash register. People are friendly. A little dark inside but they also have a few tables outside.

Cool old building that has been there since the 1800s with lots of old school decor, including an old cash register. While I liked the history and ambiance of this location, it only has wine and beer (no liquor) and the bathroom stall makes you...More

This place is cool just for the history. Neat old building with lots of charm. Worth a stop in for a drink if for no other reason than you can say you did it!
