    An oasis
We enjoyed incredible wines and shared some lamb at this local winery. Worth the drive from Chania into this fertile valley, it's like an oasis. Very good service and exceptional wine and food. We grabbed a bottle to-go, and our server also tipped us off on a local taverna for a dinner later that evening (they closed for food at 1730 in April, but open longer in the Summer). A beautiful setting.

Worth a visit even if you don’t drink wine
Great evening at the winery, short informative tour then tasting of 1 white, 1 rose, 3 red on the terrace. Followed by a feast of food - salad, lamb, beef - very good experience and a bit different. We booked direct and got a taxi there and back. We were there about 3 hours. Busier than I expected. Very friendly accommodating staff. Shop selling various wines, gifts etc. worth a visit even if you don’t drink wine.

The experience at the vineyard was 5/5! It was amazing environment and nice staff. We went on the guided tour that was long enough where we found out how they make the wine at the farm, it was also completely free. The wine tasting was affordable as we got to try 5 different kinds of wines where everyone tasted different. The food was also very good!

Crete, Platanias - vineyard / Winery
I can definitely recommend everyone to take the tour to the vineyard. We took a taxi, which cost 24€ up and the trip took 25 minutes. The same driver came to pick us up and drove us home. The lady who held the wine tour for us was good and knowledgeable.

    A real gem 💎
Called in as we had read a little about it. What an absolute gem of an oasis. Well worth the trip. We drove in our hire car rather than an organised trip. Stunning setting and a free wine tour. You also have opportunity to taste their wines after. They are really excellent. Huge shout out to the fantastic staff and especially Wesley for his really insightful knowledge of wine making on the tour (it lasts about 20 - 30 minutes and is fascinating. You must go here if you get the chance. Although we didn’t eat the food looks fantastic too!

Fascinating winery tour with great food!
I have done many winery visits the world over and this rates as one of the most genuine that I have experienced. Total integrity and a wonderful team in both the restaurant and guiding. Apart from the fact that the wines are truly world class, we had a delicious lunch after our tasting and tour. Very sensibly priced and only 20 minutes drive from Chania. Go for it!!

Probably the best night in Chania!
It was a wonderful experience, we had a great time! The girl who accompanied us on the tour was very kind and prepared, the place exudes great tranquility. Everyone was super nice and helpful, on our arrival they even offered us an extra glass of wine as we had arrived a bit early. We stayed there even for dinner and it was all delicious! Very satisfied with my plate of gemistà and my partner practically fell in love with their soutzoukakia (he still dreams of them at night) accompanied by phenomenal fries.

Evening visit with rustic decoration and wine ad libitum
After 1 hour bus ride with a travel company through small villages and narrow roads we arrive at the vineyard. The restaurant area is authentically located between the production hall, the residence and old olive trees. The tour includes visits to the production, cellar and taping hall. It never gets too technical or long-lasting. After this, the company places itself at long tables, where a wine tasting of 5 wines is carried out with (almost) coordinated serving of some sparse dishes. The served wines are all based on well-known grape varieties from the French Rhône - Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Roussanne. The rosé wine, however, also with the Greek grape Romeiko. Therefore, it becomes a little boring for a wine enthusiast, but there will probably be a wine to find that any ordinary Danish consumer can relate positively to. After tasting and serving the 5 wines are released ad libitum, there is nothing missing there. The wines can of course be purchased, but 30 € for their white wine and the best red wine (of the 3 served) stick completely off. The trip home took place in a high mood and with a common song.

    Diner under the Stars
Very nice visit to Monousakis by means of Chania Wine Tours, which picked you up from the hotel, already told you a lot about Crete, Cretan wine and Monousakis during the trip and accompanied you all evening. The food itself - great Cretan salad, bread and various meze and dessert, very traditional - you can certainly get it cheaper on site if you order it directly from the menu. But then how to get to Monousakis, about 30 minutes outside in the mountains of Chania and then taste very good wines - in this case, as much as you like - from the winery. However, I would have preferred to try more different wines or even an exotic one from the Magnum. But for the majority of visitors - we were a group of 8 - the 5 selected wines were perfectly sufficient

During my visit to Chania, Crete, I had the pleasure of visiting Manousakis Winery, and while the vineyard itself was not included in the visit, the experience offered a charming garden setting, delicious Cretan food, and a glimpse into the winemaking process.

Upon arrival, it's important to note that the vineyard is actually located 5km+ away from the original villa (as you'll learn the land where the villa is was not fertile for growing grapes), which serves as the main attraction. The villa itself is a beautifully preserved historical building, exuding an old-world charm and rich heritage. It provided a picturesque backdrop for our visit, surrounded by lush gardens and blooming flowers.

The tour of the grounds was relatively brief, lasting around 15 to 20 minutes. We strolled through the gardens admiring the well-maintained pathways. The guide provided interesting insights into the history of the villa, adding a touch of cultural context to our visit. Turns out the villa is actually where the owner of the winery grew up.

Next, we were taken to the modern wine-making building, where we learned about the winemaking process employed by Manousakis Winery. The guide shared details about the grape varieties used and the different stages of production.

While the tour itself may not be as extensive as some other vineyard visits, Manousakis Winery excels in creating a delightful atmosphere for visitors. We had lunch at the charming restaurant, where we indulged in some authentic Cretan cuisine. The menu showcased a variety of traditional dishes.

We enjoyed sitting amidst the lush greenery, sipping on a glass of their wine, and savoring the delicious flavors of the local cuisine. It was a perfect opportunity to relax and soak up the peaceful surroundings.

If you're seeking a winery visit focused on immersing yourself in a beautiful garden setting while enjoying delectable Cretan food, Manousakis Winery is an excellent choice. While the tour itself is relatively brief, the charming atmosphere and culinary delights make for a memorable experience. Just keep in mind that the vineyard is not part of the visit and is located separately. The staff made it seem that a visit to the vineyard would be difficult and require a 4x4 and much more time.

I would recommend Manousakis Winery to those who appreciate a serene and picturesque environment, accompanied by authentic Cretan flavors. It's an ideal spot to unwind, indulge in good food, and savor the essence of this enchanting region.

Note: The owner had a great restaurant called Salis in the Old Port of Chania. Truly a great place to visit and dine.

We enjoyed the drive from Réthymno to Manousakis Winery in western Crete. The road became more and more narrow and enclosed by beautiful fruit and other trees. We knew we were going somewhere special. On arrival, we were immediately directed to a table and provided two glasses of very nice white wines while we waited for the tour guide.

Our tour guide invited us to the house at the Winery and provided a detailed, fascinating and very touching story about the beginnings of the Winery. Then the most interesting portion — the tour of the actual winery with casks and barrels, explanations of the entire process and touring the wine cellars and learning how wines are aged. All of this will make wine drinking a lot more interesting.

Afterward, the tasting was fascinating, and the speakers did an excellent job of explaining the various varieties of wine made by the Winery. The best part was the tastings followed by the opportunity to order some food. We ordered the papoutzakia, fava and Horiatiki (Greek) salad. The food was absolutely wonderful, especially the papoutzakia over rice!

We had the opportunity to shop in your store, which we did, and to explore the stunning grounds filled with so many varieties of plants and trees, almost like the Garden of Eden!

This was an unforgettable experience and highly recommend that visitors to Crete not miss this fun and fascinating tour!

We booked a table and had the tour en tasting. We drank the Roussanne in a restaurant in Chania and decided to visite the winery that makes this wonderful wine. The Roussanne is a nice grape you see in the Rhone in France. Manousakis makes a very nice Roussanne, with also Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre, and also some original grapes from Crete. In the tour they tell you the family story, our tasting was for five wines, and they serve for lunch various salades, dolmades and cheese. Excellent experience, very nice wines!

The wine tasting was very disappointing!
It's a very nice place, the wines are OK, but the only thing that matters here is getting as many guests through as quickly as possible.
The ladies who bring the wine rattle off their text at high speed, and the speed of their speech means that you can't ask any questions.
Even before you take your first sip, you feel like you're one of thousands of guests who are being processed as quickly as possible.
To speed things up, 2 wines are put out in the first step, and then 3 wines at the same time in the second step.
They don't even swap the glasses from white wine to red wine.
The amount of wine is a bad joke! You get about 5 double shot glasses full for your €14 (and that's from the manufacturer itself!)
The question of whether you could get a second taste of a particular wine was simply ignored!
All in all, this is not a place where guests are valued. The only thing that matters here is making a lot of money in a short space of time!

Lovely setting, food not bad. However, the winery is very much geared towards the commercial aspects of food, selling t-shirts, pottery, tours. Nothing wrong with that at all, but the quality of the tasting wine is really, very poor.

Having some knowledge of wines and keen to try Greek grape varieties, we did our research on Manousakis before visiting. There were some interesting Greek wines on their website which we wanted to try and would have bought. But we were told that was not possible, the only wine tasting available were five wines (white, rosé, 3 reds all with artistic labels and catchy names for marketing purposes), majority of which were of non Greek grape varieties - Syrah, Grenache etc. None of the tasting wines were interesting or frankly drinkable.
No effort by staff to offer advice or explanations on any the other wines they offered.

Go there if you want nice food, setting, interested in buying their merchandise, but not for good quality wine - at least not the ones you’re allowed to try.

The quality of the wines is unmatched, a distinguished winery
But how would you feel if the dozen wines you buy from the winery are 20% more expensive than what you would pay in a cava (specifically at My cava, Kalamaria, completely valid prices after comparison)

We toured the winery on a day that they were changing the wine barrels, so we couldn’t see the full wine-making process. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and the food (ordered at extra cost) was very good, but we liked only two of the five wines we tasted. They should have not scheduled the tour on a day when they couldn’t give a full tour, or they should have given a partial refund.

The wine is good, the location is nice, but that's all. The food choice is limited (and no fish, that would go well with the white wines, for instance), there is only one kind of desert and no soft drinks (for kids or drivers). The staff (or, at least, the one who attended us) was unfriendly and not helpful at all (for instance in helping choosing the right wine for the food).

Not too far from the coastal resorts is a very pretty little village that is home to the processing plans and cellars of the Manousakis vineyards. The brief tour is quite informative, though the guide lacks any charisma or is poorly equipped for this role owning a rather taciturn nature. Once this is over you are seated at tables and offered lunch and ‘tasting’ of 5 wines and a lunch menu. Neither of which could be considered worthwhile or memorable other than their unnecessarily elevated cost. Only one of the wines, a rose, was moderately palatable with the others bordering on mildly unpleasant to absolutely vile. The food was also below par and do remember it’s actually quite difficult to cook anything unpleasant in a land where the produce is so flavourful and locally produced. Yet an accolade they managed to achieve. Of course the salad was excellent as the only human contact and preparation needed was slicing.
How this tour had managed to get 4.5 stars on this site is beyond all understanding as it failed to even achieve a 3 with our group.
There is a local taverna in the next village square where the food is delicious and 1/4 of the price, though the wine is equally unpleasant. Perhaps the Cretans are like the Canadians and keep all the good wines to themselves, though I’m yet to taste anything I’d want to take home.

We, a medium sized group of 10, book a tour here including a wine & oil tasting and actually learned quite a bit about the production of olive oil and how to determine quality in this products. As for the wine, was it a rather okayish standard, especially if you have done tastings in France, Italy or other typical wine producing countries. This statement goes for the quality of the wines, as well as the presentation of it all. As greek wine production, do the tours also have to continue their development in order to meet the highest European standards, as the presentations were given rather loveless. Still an ok tour and beautiful premisses - the oil was actually very good.
