Hamilton County, Texas wasn't formed as early as some Texas areas, but it has been home to the Commanche Indians for a very long time. All around the County are reminders of the Indians who lived here and the immigrate families that arrive in the area to carve out a living along the Brazos and the Leon Rivers that flow through the county. The Courthouse has recently been restored to its mid-1880's glory, including the discovery and reinstallation of its bell tower that was lost for many years after a previous renovation in the mid-1950s. Plenty of free parking (no meters in town) around the square and lots of shops to visit in addition to the courthouse.

Beautiful courthouse. Well maintained and lots of parking available and surrounded by pretty little old shops. Takes you back In Time.

My husband and I walked around the courthouse square in Hamilton, and then walked around the courthouse building itself--very impressive, with hand-carved motifs and very well-kept grounds. Lovely to look at. Don't pass it by when you visit Hamilton.

They have renovated this and it is worth seeing. While you are there check out the quaint drug stores across the plaza. You might be surprised at the soda counter and rustic items.

This courthouse looks very stately. It certainly dominates the square and occupies a good space. There are several interesting monuments around the outside and a great ring of seats as well. The stores on the square were interesting too. Great history in this area!

Texas is famous for their county courhouses. You could make a vacation just visiting them around the state. This is one of the prettier ones I have seen.

We pulled over to stretch our legs and walked around the courthouse. Read markers and enjoyed the architecture. The town square around it is impressive. {Visit the Bill Chappell gallery, his bio, leather work displayed & art work is available too.

Very beautiful building in downtown Hamilton and hard to miss if you are driving through. It has gorgeous stonework and has been beautifully restored. Very eye-catching!

After the restoration of this historic courthouse, it has become a sight that must be seen by all. The exterior has been restored to its original glory and the interior has been updated but kept within the limits of the historical society's guidelines. Even after the updates and upgrades were installed inside the building, it still has the old time charm and appeal that so many of Texas' courthouses hold. Be sure to tour every floor and visit with everyone you can find in hopes that you may gain access to areas that are not normally open to the public. Sweet talk these people and enjoy the beauty of one of the great, restored Texas courthouses.

Hamilton County Courthouse was restored and reopened in 2012. It was getting into pretty bad repair before the restoration. i like the transition back to the way it looked before the renovation in the 1930s. If you like courthouses, this is a cool one to check out.
