Captain Cody seems like he really knew what he was doing and was great at pulling in some good catches but there were a couple things about this trip that left us a bit disappointed. I initially booked a trip with Cody based on his good reviews and cost of an offshore trip for 4 people ($750 for near offshore.)

The day before the trip, the captain called to suggest switching the trip to a bay trip due to a storm that would be making the water choppy. That was fine as I appreciate the honesty and would defer to his judgement. He seemed to be honest and genuine. I was running around most of the evening picking up friends from the airport so there really wasn't a chance for me to check on bay pricing on Cody's website. Nor did it occur to me to ask while speaking with the captain. I had recalled from my general research earlier that bay trips are always cheaper than near offshore and that makes sense since you aren't having to use so much gas on the boat.

During the trip, we had a great time and didn't have any complaints. The captain was very laid back.

Fast forward to the end of the trip when we were paying the remainder of the balance. Cody tells me that the total cost is $700 ($600 + an extra $100 for a 4th person even though the near offshore included 4 people.) Needless to say, this put a damper on an otherwise solid trip. There was an all of a sudden sense of doubt if Cody had screwed us a bit as it is very hard to fathom a near offshore trip costing only $50 more with the same number of people and the same boat. Obviously the Captain can't control the weather but it certainly seemed like the bay fishing was exactly what he wanted to happen. That being said, 4 boats were following him so he clearly knew what he was doing and we all had a good time.

Captain Cody put us on the trout!!
His knowledge about where the fish where and the timing of the "bite" was outstanding!
Once we arrived in the area, he continually worked hard to keep us on the fish! He was also very helpful and advised us on the proper techniques to use to be able to hook and land the fish!
Can't wait to go again!!

Captain Cody is an outstanding guide. A great bay fishing trip; my son and I thoroughly enjoyed catching fish. We learned a lot, and Captain Cody ensured that two inexperienced land lubbers like us went home with plenty of fish. And I KNOW that while other guides weren't catching a thing, and their customers were frustrated, my son and I were bringing the fish in with Captain Cody! He has the magic touch; let his lifetime of experience in the Galveston bay area create a great fishing trip for you. I HIGHLY recommend Captain Cody's fishing trip experience. Captain Cody ensures that anglers of every experience level, from novices like my son and me to veterans, have a great time. Memories of our great experience will last a lifetime

Ive been on multiple charters with Captain Cody over the past 10 years and every charter was a successful trip. I have fished with him anywhere from the bay to 50 miles offshore and we always come back with a cooler full of fish. Captain Cody is not only "our" guide but he has become a friend for life. Thanks again for making every trip so memorable.

I took my 10 and 13 year old daughters out this morning for a day of fishing with Captain Cody. He was very responsive via phone and text before the trip. Super nice guy when you meet him in person. Although we had never met, I told my wife that fishing with Cody felt like fishing with your buddy. Very pleasant to be around, which isn't the most important thing in a fishing guide, but worth mentioning. Now, the most important thing...the fishing. Cody put us on trout from the very first cast. He was great teaching my daughters and me the best techniques for the most success. The trout action was great for a while, but then died down. We moved to another spot and the Spanish Macks started hitting for several hours. Cody worked hard the whole trip, keeping all of our lines baited, removing our fish, as well as working his own line, which he would hand over to my daughters to bring in the numerous fish he hooked. When he took us back in to the yacht club, he cleaned our fish and gave us a big bag of fish to take home along with memories from a great family day out. Highly recommended.

We booked a trip with Captain Cody for a fishing trip in July 2013. We had a great time and caught a lot of fish.
In other cities, we've used other fishing guides and none of them were as good as Captain Cody. A common problem with fishing guides is that they either do too much of the fishing for you, or not enough. With Captain Cody, the balance is just right. He lets you bait your own hook and fish on your own---that is, unless you'd like him to assist. He has a good sense of what each angler's experience is and he is always ready to step in and help out if you need help.
We started out fishing for smaller fish and caught several sheepshead fish. Then, the Captain took us to another spot, where we fished for shark (and managed to catch a couple). Then, the captain (with great timing and a nice sense of knowing what we wanted) took us back for an "encore" of fishing for smaller fish.
We caught several more, which we cooked that evening. Very tasty!
I highly recommend the good Captain's services.

I took my high school aged son and his friend bay fishing with Captain Cody on March 14. We had a great trip. We caught several 20-40 pound black drum and a lot of other fish. The boys had a blast. Captain Cody is an outstanding guide and was extremely helpful with everything. I have been out with guides who aren't very friendly. Captain Cody is a very outgoing guy who makes it his priority to make sure you have a great fishing trip. He knows his stuff and just wants you to have a great day fishing. I plan to book with him this summer and would highly recommend him to anyone, especially families with kids.

Went out with Captain Cody thinking we would catch a few keepers and to my surprise I limited out on trout and caught a bunch of other fun fish to reel in. The boat was nicely kept and he always was ready to bait my line.
I also got my parents a trip with him and they had a blast catching the big red fish.
Good times with Captain Cody!!!

Took the kids down for Spring Break & Capt Cody was all booked except for 1 afternoon slot towards the end of the week. Preferred a morning fish but took it anyway. It was just me & my 3 teenage boys for a four hour excursion. We ALL caught our limit within 2 hours!!!!! Cody will literally put you on the fish! We saw several excursions with other outfitters from multiple docks and other areas come back with very little. Cody cleaned and prepared all the fillets. Some of the best eating fish we have ever had. Cody is a real laid back guy and it was a pleasure being on his boat! There is a reason why all his rating are a 5!!!!!! He is that good!!!!!!
