A walk on the Seawall is a great way to exercise and view the beach and Gulf of Mexico. We visited in January so swimming wasn't an option. Walks on the beach and on the jetties are possible, too. The painted benches along the way give a glimpse into the history and sea life that surrounds Galveston.

Everytime I came to Galveston the seawall keeps getting better. When did they add the painted benches? These are definitely a nice touch and make the whole area really pretty. The seawall is perfect for a nice walk along the water with beautiful views. There is also an amusement park with restaurants and a gift shop right on the seawall. We did an early afternoon walk then again at sunset and enjoyed both times. Parking is NOT free along the seawall but the prices are reasonable. I paid $4 for 2 hours. Just remember to pay before leaving your car there. You don't want a ticket or to be towed. We had such a great time and we will be back!

Must visit when in Galveston, so happy I got recommended here. A great mix of shops, restaurants, amusement and the gulf. Water isn’t the best for swimming but makes some picturesque photos. We loved Murdoch beach house close by which had reasonably priced drinks and souvenirs and some great views of the Gulf of Mexico

We drove from the Strand after dinner to enjoy the views and help digest our dinner.
We immediately found parking in front of the Grand Galvez hotel. No charge for street parking after 6pm.
This was an optimal time to visit with less crowds, cooler weather and quieter to enjoy the views of the gulf.

We took a stroll on the Seawall on our last day in Galveston. Great place to walk and see the ocean. You can walk on the large sidewalk along the main drag or you can go down and walk the beach itself. The sun rises are great from the seawall and there are many places to stop and enjoy the view.

We rode along the Seawall twice during our recent stay. The first day, the fog settled and you couldn't see the water. The second day was fun and not crowded as it was December and in the morning. There are more than 60 colorful benches with mosaics depicting the area's marine life, birds, food, etc. Also, historical markers point out the history of the seawall and notable places like the famous Balinese Room. No trip is complete without passing by Pleasure Pier.

The Seawall has much improved over the years. The beaches are much cleaner than they used to be back in the day. Paid parking is easy to use. Beach chair rentals are available down most of the Seawall. The restaurants are top notch. I was very pleased with my recent visit during the week with much smaller crowds. I plan on doing it again 😊

The seawall and down on the beach is a beautiful place to walk and play. Parking is on the Seawall. We called the number on the sign and once you register, then pay for a pass, 8 hours, etc. Really convenient. The beaches are pristine. I think the crews come late or early morning. We loved it. Plasnning to go back with the pup. We went off season, so had the beach in an not crowded situation.

January is a gorgeous time to visit Galveston. We spent 3 hours walking 5 1/2 miles on the beach and both sides of Seawall Drive. No better way to spend a 70 degree winter day. Using the parking app to pay was pretty easy, the first time is the most time consuming. Everyplace was clean. I even was brave and tried one of the cool looking, fancy porta potties on the Seawall and was impressed with how nice and clean it was. I highly recommend a nice long walk or bike ride along the seawall on your visit to Galveston.

We like to drive by the seawall all the time, from on side to the other. We love stopping at Ritas Ice and the Walmart. OH and Pleasure Pier.
The only bad thing is when they added the parking signs and you have to go through this whole rigamarow to pay for parking.
We havent been able to park since.
So we just enjoy driving the seawall and enjoy watching the waves.

Can dogs be on the beaches in Galveston?

Yes, they can. We took ours and while we are to keep them on leashes, if the dog is obedient and well behaved, no one complains if one is allowed to run a bit or play ball. Dogs are very common on the beach from one end to the other.

I didn’t see any in January when I was walking along the Seawall. But there could be vendors on the pier or more likely along the Strand which is closer to the cruise terminal.

Is it safe right now to get in the water due to the bacteria, im going this weekend with my kids ....

Overall it should be fine and I would not worry. I just looked at the Texas Beach Watch website and most of the seawall beach is showing in the Green level or Low bacteria count. A spot near the Pleasure Pier shows Moderate as do a few spots from 39th to 60th but nothing is greater than that for the whole of the island. Most beach goers play in the surf and might do a big of body surfing but most don't drink sea water as it is so salty. That is the only way you would be effected from a higher than normal fecal count. Go and have fun and shower off after you leave the beach! And don't forget your sunblock!
I’m staying at the Seascape Condos in Galveston, where would be the best place to view the fireworks?

i would suggest a vacant field that is just south of where the helicopter rides take off from. it's on a rise, right beside a burger king or whatever fast food outlet butts up to the fiels. it is up from the beach and i would imagine the view of the fireworks would be excellent. hope this helps.

We are staying at the Best Western Seawall, across the street from the beach. Does the beach have bathrooms, changing rooms, showers? We will be with a 5 year old and will be leaving directly from the beach for a 4 hour drive home. Thanks.

We stayed at the Sheraton Four Points hotel. The Seawall beach was across the street and there were no bathrooms or changing areas at that part of the Seawall beach.
How far of a walk is it from where you park? We're taking my parents.

The Seawall is eleven miles long and has metered parking all along. If you just want a walk on the beach you can park pretty much anywhere (hot tip: there are steps at intervals. Park near the steps if you’re going to the beach.) If you want to go to the restaurants you’ll have to cross a wide and busy road, so look for parking near an intersection with a traffic light. Your parents should be fine if it’s not too busy, like a holiday weekend. Otherwise it could be a hike.

Is the Seawall a good beach for families? Can you bring your own chairs and umbrellas?

Yes it is a good beach for families. With a very gradual decline, most of the time the water is shallow a good distance from the beach. Yes you can bring your own umbrellas and chairs.

If you can see the lights of the pleasure pier you should have a pretty good view of the fireworks too
