We were so excited to go to Moody Gardens but it was just so so. We went during the week so the zipping and boat were closed and food options were limited. The discover center was pretty boring. The aquarium and Rainforest were good but our local zoo is better and cost less. We were hoping to see animals we can't see at home.
Kids under 4 are free so if you little ones it makes it more affordable but I'm not sure it was worth the money. They were also only open till 4 the day went so we felt rushed as well.

Our visit to Moody Gardens was enjoyable. The Aquarium was nicely done although a bit smaller than we expected. We have been to quite a few aquariums and this one is a bit behind the Aquarium in Gatlinburg and even the Omaha Zoo. We liked the Rainforest area a bit more and it was very enjoyable to watch the birds fly around freely. The paddle boat, included in the combo ticket, did not sail the day we visited so we were disappointed by that but overall I would recommend a visit!

My wife and I visited the impressive Rainforest at Moody Gardens on a weekday. If I could offer any relevant advice, it would be get there before opening time so that you can be some of the first to enter this marvelous environment of beautiful plants, birds, and assorted animals and fishes. Just as the Rainforest opened, busses of children arrived for what appeared to be school field trips. Fortunately, they did not immediately enter the Rainforest but instead we think they went to see a film. My wife and I spend a little over an hour in the Rainforest pyramid and did not feel rushed at all. All of the staff we encountered were knowledgeable about the exhibits and were willing to spend time explaining the behavior of some of the animals. In all, this was an enjoyable experience. As seniors, we paid $23.00 per person to visit the Rainforest.

Overall, I'd have to say that unfortunately I do not recommend this hotel. For the price, I was expecting more cleanliness and an updated interior. I was also expecting just a tad of luxury and better service. While the activities were PERFECT for my little guy (he's 3), the hotel just isn't up to par. I've stayed at Best Westerns way nicer than this! They need to charge more along the lines of about 200$ per night during peak seasons, or seriously consider updating, cleaning way more often and better, and better service.

First, YES, this was expensive...it cost our family of four $100 to just visit the aquarium, and one of our kids was FREE (3 and under). The kids loved it and the exhibits are very good, I personally enjoyed the penguins and seals. The facility was virtually spotless in terms of being clean for the visitors. However, it’s not really very big and it only took us an hour and a half for the whole experience. Also, we missed the jellyfish which I always like, someone said they close it for feeding every hour or half hour? That seems a bit much and I’ve never had that issue at any other aquarium, but there was a closed sign at the entrance. I just don’t get it. Anyway, this was enjoyable but I’d much prefer to visit the aquariums in New Orleans, Baltimore, or Vancouver for the price and the size.

I really enjoyed the rainforest and the aquarium. I was disappointed that there were not more birds and no butterflies. I came to see parrots and there were none inside. I seen two outside in cages near the exit. They looked lonely and bored. I was shocked the “zoo keeper” doesn’t have knowledge about parrots to know that they are flock animals and very intelligent. They NEED toys and things to keep them busy. They need to be with or near other birds. Sadly I also seen beautiful Hyacinth Macaws locked up behind a gated chain length fence area. Why these birds are not in the BIG beautiful rainforest I cannot comprehend. So for me the rainforest was disappointing. I hope they read this and make changes with the exotic birds there otherwise they have a very long and heartbreaking life ahead of them.

Do not waste your money. The encounter lasts about two minutes with the penguin in the room. You pay over 400$ to hear about each penguin and what they eat etc for 20 mins then you hear how to save the planet for another 20 mins. Then the last two mins they bring in penguin. I asked to chose what penguin since we were the first group of the day. He said no. I asked if we can take a picture with the penguin he said no. Everyone must sit right where they are. Then I asked if he can at least take a picture of us since we can’t move..... he (the guide) said no. He’s “instructed” to not touch our phones for he can break it. We were allowed to touch the penguin with two fingers one time each while he was there. Then the penguin made paintings for us and the guide kept one. I reminded him that he missed one of the paintings that he didn’t put in our bag and he said he’s throwing it away instead. Waste of time and money.

The Best part of the trip was the people, Michelle the concierge was off the chain With excellent service! Definitely if you have any trouble you want her. George the operator was extremely helpful and courteous. Gary the bus driver helped with my husband who is handicap in a wheelchair kudos to him. Darien the bartender was extremely nice and deserves five stars. Will Sigler, waiter in the restaurant had excellent service ask for him. Bobby the maintenance man was extremely fast with our need, kudos to him. Brenda at the front desk go through Her line Customer Service excellent. The female bartender on the dinner cruise was awesome I didn’t get her name. Unfortunately there were people I didn’t get their name but everyone was excellent. However the room is not really handicap assessable for a person in a wheelchair I thought that that’s what we had purchased for the weekend my husband can’t maneuver his self in the bathtub we need a shower. The refrigerator did not work they did bring us another one. The room smell like smoke not the people‘s fault. The chair had a burn mark or a black mark in it I have pictures . Disgusting 🤢. Was not impressed with the room for the price the worst part of the trip. However the adventures through the rainforest and through the aquarium very educational and informative. The 3-D was OK. The 40 be prepared to get wet and tickled by a wire at your feet and air blowing out you that smells bad. We left before it was over not so great for us. However I think that young kids would enjoy that. The food was excellent however pricey. The dinner cruise was very romantic the food was very good the service there was also helpful. If you’re looking for people that want to roll out the red carpet for you they absolutely will I can’t say enough good things about the customer service especially Michelle. The whole adventure is very pricey if you don’t mind it’s a wonderful place to go. Because we’re not in the room much during activities I guess it will do.

We visited on 5/2/22. The Aquarium and the 3D movie were the only 2 events worth going to. Both of those were amazing.

As of yesterday, the Rainforest is only about 1/3 open. Parts of the 1st floor were under construction and the second level was closed. The Dino exhibit was closed even though the website said it would be open. The paddle boat takes about 1-1/2 hours for a 25 minute boat ride. The JAM interactive section had several items closed down and the ones that "worked" only about 1/2 were working correctly. The 4D movie was 13 minutes and marginal.

The outdoor activities were closed for the season but we knew that when we made the plans to visit.

So if you are in Galveston area for vacation the Aquarium and the 3D movies were good. The rest can be skipped until they are ready for the busy summer season.

If they are going to only be partially open they should not charge full price and you need to be aware that the website is not accurate about what events are not operating or are operating at less than normal levels.

I want to advise anyone that is planning on staying here that this hotel does not return items left in your room. My family stayed here for a recent dance competition and after checking out I quickly realized I left all of my rings (engagement ring, and wedding bands, as well as a James Avery ring) sitting by the bathroom sink. We paid for a late check out and although we were a good two and a half hours down the road when I noticed I didn't have them, I immediately tried to contact the hotel. After numerous attempts calling their phone number listed on their website, someone finally answered the phone and put my on hold for almost 45 minutes, after which they hung up. I had no choice but to call back the next morning and again after numerous attempts to contact anyone, I was again asked to be put on hold. I explained my situation as fast as I possibly could and was then transferred to security. Although security was very friendly, they told me they could not locate my rings. I asked if anyone had been booked in that room and they told me no, so that could only mean one thing someone had taken them off of that counter. My husband had already packed up our belongings before I quickly ran up to help my daughter get all of the hairspray out of her hair, which is what lead me to take off the rings. Some items are irreplaceable and although I take full responsibility for accidentally leaving them behind, it gives me a really sick feeling that such a nice/expensive hotel couldn't seem to locate such an important item. Just a heads up to any future bookings.
