    Very helpful
Stopped by to figure out what to do for the day. A very helpful and friendly lady made wonderful suggestions and we spent the afternoon following them. The center’s filled with maps and brochures all free for the taking. I encourage you to stop by to make the most of your time in Fredericksburg. It was quite helpful.

You should stop by here if you are new to the area
Incredibly friendly staff and helpful brochures. There was an informative video about the town, which was of course optional to watch. We feel stopping here added to our overall welcoming feeling about staying the day in Fredricksburg with family.

    Perfect for History Buffs
I loved experiencing the early German history of Fredericksburg in such an interactive way. I went to each house and played the live video recordings from descendants of settlers and really enjoyed myself. There was so much to see and learn about, it felt like I had traveled back in time. Worth visiting if you're interested in history!

We have been full time RVer's for over 10 years. We have visited all 48 states in continental USA and Alaska. We always start our travel in a new area at the visitor center. This was very clean, well laid out and the person behind the desk was friendly and very helpful.

We went here first to get our bearings for a day trip to Fredericksburg. Free parking, a beautiful building, all the info that you'd ever need for the area, & friendly & courteous staff. My wife was looking for area thrift stores & the person helping us even had a sheet for that! I would recommend this be your first stop if you're visiting the area.

My friend and I stopped in here to look around and get some information. Very nice lady explained a lot to us and the history and places to go visit. Even a video to watch of the history of Fredericksburg. Worth stopping to visit..

Popped in to get some maps of the area and see what things we needed to include onto our schedule. The staff were so super friendly and only to willing to help and to advise. Its so refreshing when you come across people that genuinely want to help and get pleasure out of helping others. We cant speak highly enough of the lady that helped us

Most small towns do not require such a substantial committemtn to a visitors center--they have so little to do in them that is makes no sense. In Fredericksburg, it is an absolute requirement for all the travelers/visitors. Great little town with history and wonderful German architecture. Some of the best looking churches in Texas!

Even if you are going to the World War Museum, start here - the Visitors Center is right across the street. You will see there is more to Fredericksburg than meets the eye. There’s an excellent 10-minute video and the brochures are well organized. The person working there was very helpful but not intrusive.

We love Fredericksburg- have to go there every trip we make to San Antonio. Plan to be there around 10am. Most all the stores are open 7 days a week. Make sure you go to Texas Jack's around the corner from Main Street by the park if you are interested in western wear or serious about purchasing a pistol/rifle including the old relics. Stop at Wheeler's for a German lunch. Stop at the many shops on Main Street. But also make time to tour the old courthouse. It is a hidden treasure of the history of Fredericksburg and takes you into the old court room. It is very interesting.

My boyfriend and I went to Fredericksburg on a whim, and I am honestly not sure if it was in September or otherwise. Either way, we found the information center and as soon as we walked in were greeted by one of the ladies there. She asked if we had been to Fredericksburg before and we said no. She then asked what our interests were, and I said wine and food. She quickly directed us to some helpful pamphlets and guide books outlining numerous restaurants and wineries. The brochures offered are complimentary and free to take. They have numerous guide books and pamphlets on a number of different topics...wine, food, museums, history, shopping, bed and breakfasts, etc. If you are new to the area or are looking for something new, I would say you have to stop in and check it out.

Went to Fredericksburg for the German food. I read the reviews on this site, and couldn't wait to find a German hamlet in the middle of Texas. The two hour drive out there was pretty nice. However, once I got to the actual town of Fredericksburg, I felt the disappointment starting to sink in. After navigating the sidewalks, through the throngs of families & baby strollers, I finally found the restaurant I was looking for. Wanted to sit in the beer garden, but the wait was too long. I just wanted to eat. Then the food arrived. I was not just disappointed, but actually disgusted (see my review for Auslander.)
Please be aware that the people who gave rave reviews, have never even traveled out of Texas, and some not even out of the USA. If you have never been to Germany, then how can you even judge what German food, and it's culture, is really like?
The rest of the town is nothing but overpriced shops, selling fancy clothing or home decor.

If you really feel like going for a drive in the Hill Country, go to Fredericksburg Trade Days. The Trade Days flea market has everything that the town is lacking. Uncrowded beer gardens, free live music, REAL German food, shopping, great deals, people watching, and much more. The flea market is located outside the town, which means you don't have to deal with the congested streets of Fredericksburg.

A lovely and pristine, beautifully landscaped visitor's center with ample parking that is well-stocked with information covering all regions in TX in multiple languages and staff that are eager to share insights. The bathrooms are extremely clean. There is a short film that does a good job of introducing the visitor to the community and its history.
