Great spot to watch sunset, we only saw one other person on the Monday evening when we went.
Commanding view of the whole area. Bleating goats from the farm just to the north were audible at the summit, adding a pastoral touch.
The climb is moderately steep, but only took a few minutes to reach the top.

While visiting a winery on Thursday, March 4, 2021, our hostess recommended a trip to Cross Mountain. Our curiosity was peaked with her suggestion so we drove to Cross Mountain park around 4:45PM. The walk on the path was just right for us baby boomers. There was a 360 degree view of the area with benches to sit on and enjoy. Having the cross on top was interesting and added to the view and the walk up.

Park open dawn to dusk. You have to enter through a maze so don't be fooled that the "park" is closed. Allow 1 hour max. Great city views, nice breeze, and a little shade. If in town, spend an hour taking the very short hike. Flip flops are fine just a little rocky but nothing major. Take a picnic lunch or go in the evening and enjoy some wine uptop the "mountain" - hill.

The hike was ok, not too hard and the view was good enough. But I am not a Christian and for the life of me can't understand why christians are always putting up crosses everywhere. The historical marker notes that it was first an Indian signal point. Why not find out what the Indians called it and change the name and then have an artist do a statue of an Indian sending a signal?

We took this hike to the top on a recommendation. We are from the flatlands, and not as young as we used to be, so this was a pretty good little hike for us. But we took our time and had a bottle of water with us. Took nearly a half hour to get on top. Boy, it was well worth the hike. What a view of the city and the area. There are some benches on top, well placed to see different views. There's a little park at the base with a nice display display area with native plants.

Hike up a small mountain. Fairly easy but wear hiking boots. Nice views, picnic area. Would be good for kids who want to hike up a "mountain". Short way up and various trails to choose. So close to downtown

We spent about an hour here. Here are my thoughts about it:
-- My favorite part of this park was the sculptures. They are very well done.
-- The scriptures are in the ground as you walk and are written in Spanish, English and German.
-- Write a note on one of the rocks near the foot of the cross. Many people wrote prayers, their name, or the names of those who they are praying for.
-- The cross is a sight to see because it is so massive and tall.
-- Great place to take photos of the area. The views are amazing up there.
-- You do not have to be a Christian to enjoy this place. It is a place for everyone and everyone can enjoy it.
I hope you find this review helpful.

Head north from Hwy 290 up Hwy 965 (which is also Milam St) towards Enchanted Rock and stop by Cross Mountain. It is on the left past Nimitz street. You have to watch for the sign then pull in. It is a small hike up a rocky path to a lookout that is beautiful. It gives you a very good cross view of town. The sunset will be to your right so it is beautiful at dusk. It is not too challenging of a climb and you can take your dog with you. It is not far from town so if you don't have time to drive the 17 miles to Enchanted Rock it is a good alternative.

I took my grandchildren here and they loved it. I have also taken my dogs who also love it. It is rustic and makes the children feel as if they are part of just a few folks who have explored the mountain. The trail is well marked and the view from the top is very nice. We bring a spread, snacks and water and have a picnic at the top. Not heavily populated so it brings you close to nature while you are still very near the city. Nice!

Initially we thought it was closed but there is an opening that you weave through it get in. It is a gravel hike up but it's not bad and we were wearing flip flops. The view at the top is amazing. The cross was a bit run down looking but still was beautiful. It was so worth the walk up and it was a peaceful place once we were at the top.
