My husband and I attended the 9am Mass on Sunday at St. Mary's. The parish is thriving - the church was full, there were tons of young families with little children, and everyone seemed to participate in the life of the church. We saw a tour group gathering after the Mass with a man holding up a sign that said "CHURCH TOUR" so if that interests you, I imagine you can just jump into the gathering group. If you'd like to attend a Mass, St. Mary's is a great place to do so. I looked up partway through Mass and noticed the vibrant, traditional stained glass window of Joseph and the child Jesus engaged in carpentry with Mary supervising boasted a dedication written in German. That's some local flavor right there.

We stopped by on a Sunday, fully expecting services to be going on and not being able to go inside. Some friendly parishioners saw us wandering around and invited us in. Beautiful church inside and out. Out of respect for the people inside, I did not take any interior photos.

A nice place to sit in a pew and take in the beauty of the church. Two of the stain glass windows behind the front alter picture a couple of local children standing with the famous figures. The parish has an active school so we were serenaded with music from the choir loft where students were practicing their piano.

We were spending the day in Fredericksburg and saw the comments about this church on Trip Advisor. Since it is just off Main St it was fast and easy to find with ample street parking. We spent about 30 minutes admiring the many ornate stained glass windows and the building itself. It is a smaller church but definitely worth a visit.

St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fredricksburg is one of the beautiful painted churches of Texas. It's gorgeous and peaceful. The architecture is spectacular. The church is easy to get to and parking is available right in front of the church.

The original church was built in the mid-1800's when German immigrants settled in Fredericksburg. Beautiful blue stained glass windows line the sides of the sanctuary. In the early 1900's, a larger church was constructed next door to accommodate the growing congregation. It, too, has beautiful stained glass and a large pipe organ in the choir loft.

Would like to rate this higher, as we love to visit historic churches and cathedrals. Unfortunately, we arrived on Wednesday and it was closed for repairs. We laughed hysterically because so many restaurants and some attractions were closed on Wednesday. Beware summer travelers as the prime time to visit Fredericksburg is Thursday-Sunday with different restaurants and attractions closed sporadically Monday-Wednesday.

One of the most intact painted churches of the 19th century in Fredericksburg . Constructed by German immigrants . Both exterior and the interior is immaculate. The interior has impressive stained glass windows and colorful ceiling arches. Highly recommended.

Regardless of whether you have faith or not, this historic place is a required visit when in Fredericksburg.
Quiet, peaceful and serene, the building itself is a testament to the ability to build and the faith to maintain.
Take a few minutes to simply seat and contemplate, it will be well worth your time

My husband and I stopped at St Marys Catholic Church on a Thursday afternoon in June as we were traveling through Fredricksburg. We had seen the outside of the beautiful church many times but did not have the opportunity to see the inside due to church services and other events. It was so awesome. This is one of the central Texas painted churches and is a must to see. There is no charge.
