If you love to shop this is definitely the place for you! We went up and down both sides of the street and checked out all the shops and even a restaurant and a candy store. The owners of all the stores were really friendly and there were a few places that offered free beer....no purchase needed! Granted it wasn't the best beer BUT free is free! I will definitely come back again but next time maybe during the week. We came on a Friday and it was super crowded.....I can only imagine how packed it is on Saturday and Sunday.

My husband and I have been to Fredericksburg many times. On this trip, we went to see the holiday lights on Main Street. Those lights were ok. The lights in the Marktplatz along Main Street were super. We arrived at the Marktplatz about 30 minutes before sundown and enjoyed walking through the gardens. An ice rink was setup for ice skaters. There was a small charge for skating. From 6 pm to 6:10 pm, the story of Fredericksburg was told on speakers then 3 Christmas carols. Next, there was a count down 10 to 1 and the Marktplatz was lite with lights. I love the 26-foot tall wooden German Christmas Pyramid that was made in Germany. Main Street has lots of very interesting shops with one of a kind items. So much fun.

Even during the off season on a weekday, Fredericksburg’s sidewalks were pretty crowded, making it impossible to socially distance. The shops were varied, albeit a bit expensive, and there are several restaurants, though check the days / hours of business because many were closed on Tuesdays. The shade of the walkway made strolling through the downtown district much easier than being out in the hot sun.

We visited on a Monday so some of the shops were closed. There were too many ladies' boutiques for my hubby's taste so I would recommend it for a ladies' get-away weekend more than for an couples' visit. Some shops sold stuff that I could buy at the mall (Brighton jewelry, for example). A bit disappointed in the restaurants; food was often overcooked.

Main Street in Fredericksburg is an enjoyable walk of 10 or more city blocks passing many shops, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, historical sights, and more. It is a 4-lane wide street with free head-in parking. Traffic lights at cross streets allow for easy, safe crossing between the two sides of the street.

We planned this trip months ago and the only real difference in this trip is all the different wineries and construction downtown. We love to visit here because of the unique shops and antique shops. I will return here again! I did notice the signs in the store windows about no restrooms I understand because of COVID-19 restrictions. Warm days but cool nights. Maybe back in the spring for Bluebonnets still will take the backroads to see all that is the Texas Hill Country. Interstate is faster but the beauty is not there.

Mainstreet is overpriced. They need more and better restuarants in town. The wineries are a tourist trap. Most dont even make wine on their property. They are not geared for older folks. The ones that we could get in seems like they were just having a big party and taking people's money. They want 15 to 20 bucks just to taste 6 wines. Been to Oklahomas wineries and can tastes as many as you want for free as long as you purchase a bottle. Hill country wines are not very good for the price.

Okay, Fredericksburg is a place you want to eat and shop if you are in Hill Country driving around. There is a lot of fun places to shop and so many good places to eat. We always stop at a sweet shop on the main street with the kids. My only complaint is it gets a little crowded on a pretty Saturday afternoon. There are several German restaurants in this area. One sometimes has live music in an outdoor area. Fredericksburg, Boerne, Gruene, and Wemberly are all basically a yearly pilgrimage for us. If you are interested in these little towns, they all have festivals and markets in the town square different times of the year.

Main Street has so many historical sites and specialty shops. It is a day excursion in itself! The diners are fabulous. The man who runs the Fredericksburg Winery is a Hoot!! Walking through the door of the Chocolate is enough to give you a toothache! But the chocolate is awesome! We loved it. I was there with my Mom, two Aunts and Cousin. Needless to say, when 5 old women get together, not too much gets done by way of "plans". Even though we did not make it to the museums, etc., it was pure joy just to walk around this quaint, beautiful town and enjoy being with Family! We are already planning another stay! One small complaint - which has nothing to do with our stay - this site will not let me type who was there. We had NO teenagers!! Only us Grannies.

The town of Fredericksburg was founded in 1846 by German immigrants and was named after Prince Frederick of Prussia, locals call it Fritztown.
As Parking along Main Street can be a challenge on busy days, we just stroll up and down the main street, looking into the shops, boutiques, art galleries, and checking out many of the restaurants, wine tasting rooms, and especially the large brewpub.
There is a National Museum of the Pacific War at the East End with a statue of Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz who was the Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Pacific Forces in World War II in front of it. At the West End of the street, opposite the new Gillespie County Courthouse that was built in 1939, complete with a jail on the third floor, is a bronze plaque for Market square near the Pioneer Museum.
The museum features amongst other famous people the Texas Republican Senator Matthew Gaines, a former slave who did much to bring free public education to the state of Texas.
TIP: Public Restrooms are located at the Pioneer Museum, Market Platz (Market Square) and the

Are the shops on Main Street open on Sunday? And if so what time do they open?
Elmer G
Biloxi, MS314 contributions
YES, stores are open Sundays.
This is the BEST Main Street shopping we have seen in USA in last 40 years. Hours are Monday thru Saturday 9 to 6 and Sunday 11-5. Some stores will be open earlier and later. Fredericksburg has maintained the old original atmosphere! There are no neon signs, you will have a delight shopping here.
Wife & I have traveled here 3 times and spent at least 7 to 10 days each time. You will also enjoy the history and sightseeing.
Have Fun!!!

I really don't know. I would call the Baron's Inn. I am sure they would have the information. They are a nice hotel and would know the area practices on Christmas. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Are there any Caricature artists in Fredericksburg?
sharonwW9192XT
Ajo34 contributions
I honestly have no idea on this one. There is an incredible fair during their October Fest which is very traditional German and they had many different activities to offer during this full plated multi-event fair. You might also check with one of the two Christmas stores which are open year round and also cater to the unusual, the antique and various displays.
Hope it helps. One things for sure, you'll have a great time looking for your artist.

The Farmers' Market is only on Thursday mornings from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. It is located in the rear parking lot of the Collierville United Methodist Church, just off the town square.

290wineshuttle is a great way to go. It generally starts about 10AM and runs till 5. I believe it goes to 7 or 8 different wineries. You are not limited by the shuttle, simple get off at the winery of your choice, stay as long as you like, then simply step out to the waiting area and catch the next shuttle and go to the next winery.
A great way to spend a day with friends.
