About
The tour stops at three of the top six award winning barbecue (Bar-B-Q) restaurants in Fort Worth/Dallas, rated by D Magazine story by Daniel Vaughn. At each restaurant you will savor their signature barbecue (Bar-B-Q). If the pit master can break away from the fire, he will join us for a Q&A. It is fascinating to hear about their choices of wood, meats and cooking temperatures. As we drive through the city, you will hear the history of Fort Worth/Dallas. We will point out restaurants, landmarks and places of interest. You will see the Water Gardens, Sundance Square, The Historic Stockyards and many more sites. Photo opportunities will be available at the Fort Worth Water Gardens and Stockyards. If you leave hungry it's your own fault...

My wife bought the Texas BBQ Tour for Christmas. Even though we live in Grapevine, both grew up here in Dallas/Fort Worth, and are very familiar with Fort Worth, we still found the tour to be a lot of fun. We even learned a few things we didn't know.

Billy Ray was a great tour guide ("and kind of a big deal" - you'll understand once you take the tour) and he helped us take a lot of pics to document our experience.

We went to three different BBQ places and each one had it's own distinct flavor and character. If you're from out of town this a tour you definitely want add to your list. If you're local to DFW, it's still a lot of fun, especially if you go with a group of friends.

We had a great time with Billy today. We got to see a lot and eat great bbq. Hanging out with Billy was like spending time with a friend. He made the experience fun and interesting. He pointed out a lot of things that only locals would know. I would highly recommend his tour.

My family and I were heading to Fort Worth, Texas for a weekend wedding and we were looking for something fun to do while visiting, and we we came across the Texas Bar-B-Q Tour. We booked our tickets and contacted the owner, Billy Ray. From our phone conversation to the last minutes on our tour, he was polite, funny, and had a lot of knowledge about Fort Worth’s history and barbecue.

We were lucky because my family was the only ones on the tour that day, and Billy Ray was able to adapt his itinerary to our needs. Our hotel was on his way into Fort Worth and he picked us up right in the lobby. We made our way through the city and heard a lot about the history. We got out to take some pictures at the Fort Worth Water Gardens and then we continued on a driving tour of Fort Worth before continuing on to the Stockyards. Billy dropped us off while he parked the car, and we grabbed a drink and made our way to watch the cattle drive. Billy was great photographer helping to capture our time together on the trip.

After watching the cattle drive, we were ready for the main event, barbeque. The first stop was at Angelo’s where we given a quick tour of the smokers and then sat down to a sampling of brisket, a rib, sausage, beans, potato salad and coleslaw. There was a table reserved for us and the food came out as soon as we sat down. We enjoyed our meal alongside a frosty glass of beer. It was delicious!

Next, was Off the Bone. Once again, there was a reserved table waiting for us and our food came right out. The management of here was fantastic, knew Billy Ray, and treated us wonderfully. The sampling we had here was almost the same as Angelo’s. The ribs were phenomenal and the barbeque sauce was so delicious that we purchased a bottle, and the owner Eddie even signed our bottle. He was very hospitable! Although the barbecue was so delicious it didn’t need the sauce, the sauce added a little something extra. We followed Eddie to the smokers out back as he shared how his business has been expanding and told us about the additional smokers he needed to add. It was clear to us why he was so successful.

Finally, we went to Smokeys. Billy Ray brought a cooler with some beer for us and we had a platter to create our own brisket sandwiches, homemade bread, beans, and a unique buttermilk pie sampling of both regular and chocolate. It was all very filling and delicious. I was even able to head to the kitchen to see some of the action that happens back there.

We finished the tour by heading to the Dallas Cowboy stadium and Billy Ray was so kind to make a little stop for my mom to purchase something for a friend in their gift shop! It was a first for Billy Ray, but like I said, he was willing to do whatever we needed to have a great trip! We didn’t need to go on the train since Billy Ray was able to pick us up and drop us off, and we didn’t miss it one bit.

Overall, the tour was one of the highlights of our trip! Some may say that it is pricey, but it was well worth the experience, food, and education. You get transportation, food, and fun…all in one afternoon!

If you are debating doing this tour, don’t wait…it will be one of the best things you did in Fort Worth. Thanks for a great experience, Billy Ray!

As I made my first smoked Texas brisket yesterday and slathered on my “Off The Bone BBQ Sauce” that I picked up on the tour I realized I owed Billy Ray a review. This is the least I can do as the tour was fantastic and worth every penny.

My wife and I do food tours on every vacation trip. This tour was a top 5 tour off all time. Sorry you are not #1 Billy. It is hard to beat a hands on Italian cooking class and dinner in a private residence in the hills of Tuscany two days before Christmas. However, Bill Ray your Ft Worth BBQ Tour makes it in our Best of the Best!

Billy picked up my wife and two sons at our hotel. He apologized that he was carrying two cell phones. His said he never takes calls on his tours but his Dad had recently passed away and he was attending to some of his affairs. I felt horrible. I could not believe he didn’t cancel on us. I then expected a somber tour. Well if this is Billy on a bad day, I can’t image his enthusiasm on a great day. He was a Texas tornado.

We went to places I would never have found or stopped at. Each one was a BBQ jewel. ALL of the food was great. Do yourself a favor and buy some sauce at Off The Bone. I also fell in love with buttermilk pie. I had never heard of it before. It was some darn good pie!

This tour is more than BBQ though. Billy also takes you to the Stockyards and other points of interest throughout Ft Worth. Everywhere we went, everyone knew Billy. He had great stories and insight into the area.

Billy Ray, your father raised a good man. I am sure he is proud. It was a wonderful experience and it was a pleasure meeting you. Looking forward to our paths crossing some day and sharing a homemade pizza and a cold beer!

I was staying in Dallas, searching for great BBQ, and signed up for this tour without knowing that it was entirely in Ft. Worth and I didn't have a car. But Billy was so helpful in telling me how to easily get to Ft. Worth on the TRE train from Union Station in Dallas. He was waiting when I got off the train and whisked our group off for an adventure in Ft. Worth that began with a few hours of sight-seeing. Billy seems to know everyone in Ft. Worth and that enables us to see behind the scenes at the fountains, shops and restaurants. One amazing restaurant wasn't even open yet but were able to see the entire beautiful grounds and watched an enchilada making demonstration in the kitchen. We got up close and personal to several BBQ pit ovens, learning from the pit masters how to tell when the meat is ready. The three restaurants chosen by Billy were all great and each had a unique style of making their BBQ creations. Billy works hard to make sure each restaurant shows off it's best items and even calls ahead in the morning to make sure that there is enough buttermilk pie available for the group! I definitely recommend this tour because Billy is quite a character and Ft. Worth is a unique place to visit. Don't leave Dallas without spending a day with Billy on the Texas Bar-B-Q Tour. He's sort of a big deal.

We were on the tour last year in November and it’s taken me a while to get this review done! We were in Fort Worth to see Willie Nelson and took in the food tour at the same time. We were the only two on the tour with Billy Ray so we got the royal tour! The food was fabulous at all the stops and I especially liked the buttermilk pie! Billy Ray told us a lot about Fort Worth as we were driving from stop to stop and he was very entertaining! You won’t be hungry when your finished! We go on a food tour everywhere that we go now and this one was one of the best!

Billy Ray will be your best friend during this tour. He knows ALL the best BBQ places in town, knows the owner's by name (and their kids and what church they go to and the name of their dogs.....). He could charge three times what he charges now and the tour would still be MORE than worth the money. Come hungry and be ready to laugh!!!

Got my lady tickets to the George Strait (Cowboy Rides Away) Concert & she surprised me with a BBQ Tour with the man, the myth, the legend Billy Ray. Haven't had this much fun packed into one day since Spring Break 2002. Billy is a sensational tour guide and does a magnificent job of making everyone on his tour laugh and feel right at home. You will leave with a wealth of knowledge! All 3 BBQ Restaurants he took us to were fabulous. We ate brisket, ribs, sausage, beans, turkey, cole slaw, and potato salad throughout our tour. Being on a competitive BBQ Cooking Team [BIG BOYZ BBQ] I judged the BBQ we ate based on taste, texture, and presentation. I won't mention the names of the restaurants, but I'll tell you this. The first restaurant had the best brisket hands down, the second restaurant had the best ribs, and the last restaurant had the best beans and was my favorite overall. Make this tour part of your next trip to Fort Worth...you won't be disappointed!

My husband and I booked this tour after reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor,I have to say this lived up to our expectations and more.
Billy Ray is a whirlwind of energy ,there were only the two of us on the tour and initially I was a bit apprehensive thinking this might not be as much fun with just three of us..I was wrong .
We started out the day with billy Ray doing some sightseeing he brought us to the water gardens the stockyards ,jfk memorial .he had my phone taking pictures of us ,and I have to say he got some good ones ,we probably wouldn’t have got if we had just gone on our own.then there was the food...wow is all I can say,my husband is a chef and he was very impressed.it really was delicious.and although it seemed like a small amount ,by the time we got to the second bbq we were feeling full!and to finish off the day as he was dropping us home we had a bit of a sing song ...a truly memorable experience I can’t recommend it enough.
