Our favorite thing about the Fort Worth Stockyards was the rodeo, which is held year-round, every Friday and Saturday night. It is the oldest rodeo in the state, having started in 1896. It is also the world’s only continuously weekly rodeo. It starts at 7:30 and usually runs about 2 hours. Doors open at 6:00. Tickets start at $15 but there are all kinds of specials and coupons. It appears that the participants at this rodeo are people trying to get experience and recognition, not world champions. Nonetheless, the contestants give it there all so it was not short on excitement. It was a lot of fun. There was also a champion rope twirler, and 10-year-old trick rider. Texans are known for their state pride and national patriotism. This event was symbolic of both. Despite their efforts, it is not very handicapped accessible. To get in, someone must meet you at the side door and let you in. That person graciously guides you to the handicapped ramp and seating area. The ramp is the problem. It is a movable, very steep, very narrow metal ramp. My mobility scooter had a lot of trouble getting up and down it. There are two areas designated for handicapped just at the top of the ramp, right by the chutes where the cowboys mount their bulls and broncs. It was fascinating to watch this process close-up. When they break out of the chute there is a huge adrenaline rush. You feel a connection with the riders. I highly recommend this small but exciting rodeo.

We had a group of 24 and sat in the Silver Spur Boxes right on the sidelines. We were so close to the action that some of got a little dirt in our hair/drinks. The entire evening was so exciting and every moment was fillied with action packed fun!!! All 24 of us said we would do a rodeo night again! I highly recommend this event!!!

What a night! We have been to many fantastic Outback Australian Rodeos, but this... Sensational! We had amazing seats close to the action. Our 6 year old daughter participated in the sheep chase duration the evening. An experience she will never forget. The audience really get behind all the incredible competitors, creating a fantastic atmosphere. The commentary and music along with the talent of riding makes for an amazing family night. We highly recommend visiting Stockyards Rodeo!

Even though w/COVID there are less riders/participants, they always put on a good show. One suggestion- please have an announcement ending the show. They all do a great job welcoming you and providing background info about the rodeo, but at the end of the night- it just ends. No “thank you for coming/hope to see you again”. Maybe this past Saturday night was a fluke, but people were looking at each other because they weren’t sure it was over.
