Exercise in and around Turtle Creek Park & Mansion were gorgeous grounds. I didn’t find any turtles in the creeks or waterfall, which was disappointing. Pretty sporadic art. One sculpture was different. Beautiful place. Local but nice for tourist. Leisure.

We walked to the park from the Hotel on Sunday. Almost no one was there. Beautiful retreat in the middle of Dallas. Long sidewalks following the creek. There were kids fishing and looking for turtles (they showed us one :). So quiet and lovely. We hoped to watch the Eclipse from there but learned they had an event that day, so we found a quieter spot.

Reading the descriptions and website, it seems clear that this dedicated for the LBGTQ community. I say this as simply an observation both of the park and the description in the website - mentioning LGBTQ at least 10 times.

Turtle creek is an oasis for people who know where to go and what to look for. You can still see young boys fishing together, couples picnicking and runners traipsing through from early morning to twilight. There is plenty of parking, shade and quiet. Early seasons of Dallas (TV show) shot scenes in the park area. Lot so art (bronze statues) can be seen along well manicured lawn areas. It beats Katy Trail by far.

My goal when I went here was to feed ducks some leftover bread and go on a walk with my husband. I achieved my goal and more. For the most part, the grounds were tidy and we were able to see a lot of wildlife. Overall, a pleasant afternoon trip.

This is a park circling a small river thats go through highland park (RICH Neighborhood)
Its a park with fountains, places for picnics, small bridges to cross the river.
Ideal for a small picnic in-town, its just 5 minutes away from downtown. Its a really safe zone, where you can be out late at night and be completely safe
Perfect for a small date.

We arrived and got out of the car. With a photographer's camera, people usually stop and talk. There was a woman walking by, we all said hi and she stopped to talk. Told us what it was called, told us how to get to the teddy bears across the bridge. She said whenever anyone visits, people always bring them down to see the bears, made out of Tx granite. Very large lily pads, flowers all closed. She said it was going to rain in 20 minutes. I laughed and asked if Texans have it that down pat. She remarked she was listening to the radio. She told us about Versailles Park, also called Flippen Park I think. She was right. In 20 minutes it started to rain. The difference between Tx rain and Phoenix rain...the drops are closer together in Texas. I don't melt so I was going to walk a bit. However the rain started to really come down. We drove to Versailles Park, saw the gazebo and little else, as the water was sheeting down. The homes are beautiful. Some in need of serious roof repair.
One reviewer said what to do? take pix of yourself with the bears, walk along the trail, sit on one of the many benches and contemplate life, feed a squirrel, and yes, I would throw a blanket on the ground and have cheese and wine if it wasn't raining. She told us Jerry Jones house was at the end of the creek, owner of a sports team apparently. Nice gal, very informative. Great area, very green, peaceful, beautiful. Note, all the hedges have white and red flowers at the bases. weird. Pix are on other camera. if I can upload later, I will.

Just north of Dallas' central business district is an oasis called Turtle Creek Park that meanders thru the surrounding affluent neighborhood. The park is great for walks, fishing and is very family friendly and blends in with the taller buildings and we found it is surprisingly close to restaurants and shops. Very relaxing area.

The creek park runs alongside some of the Katy trail and there are access points onto it. The turtles are quite easy to see from a distance - but are easily frightened when you go near. Look forward to exploring further up the creek to the park.

I had wanted to check out Robert E Lee Park and Turtle Creek Park while I was in Dallas, but when I got to the area I got confused and couldn't tell where one park began and the other one ended. I also couldn't figure out where to park as there didn't appear to be any lots for either park. Becoming frustrated, I drove over Lemmon Avenue heading east then turned right on Carlisle Street and then turned right again onto Carlisle Place. Luckily, I was able to grab a parking space on this small side street for FREE. Then, I walked down to Snider's Union plaza which just so happened to be on what was called the Katy Trail, a popular jogging and biking path in downtown Dallas.
Once on the Trail I see something resembling a park, but I have no idea how to get there. There's no easy way and all I see is people running, jogging, walking, bicycling, and lots and lots of construction. What a mess! Eventually I made it down to what looked like a park and I began working in the short cut grass. However, then it dead-ended into some woods that I decided to walk through despite the heavy underbrush. This was a dumb idea and not something I recommend. I did finally pop out of the woods onto some road that I suppose had to be Bowen Street. I walked along the street until I was finally able to see a better, clearer entrance that took me down to the Turtle Creek Parkway path.
Along the path I witnessed some wildlife in the form of various ducks and birds. I also passed by one female jogger. Other than her, there was nobody else in sight. This park probably has more to offer than what I witnessed, but my trip to it was uneventful, uninspiring, a bit dangerous, and it's not the most beautiful park in the world, or even Dallas for that matter. I've uploaded some pictures from the best areas of the park that I saw. I hope you enjoy them and have a better time here than I did. Maybe you can learn a little something from my misadventure.
