- Tom from TexasSan Antonio, Texas231 contributionsVery good, culturally informative. Main exhibits are free.Very good museum. Price: Main exhibits were free. There were three special collections, for $10-20 each. Onsite parking was $20. I enjoyed the Americas exhibits on the 4th floor. There was plenty of interesting explanation next to the pieces, except for a few spots where you had to get info from a book or tablet. I liked how the museum provided cultural context for why certain art is the way it is. The 3rd and 2nd floor have art representing several world regions. Again, I liked how the museum provided context. There is a small exhibit devoted to art restoration. The 1st floor contained the special exhibits, which I did not visit. Navigating was a bit difficult, but the staff is helpful. I found myself backtracking to places I had skipped. I would suggest looking at everything in each small section before moving on to the next room. I spent a couple of hours, with the most time on the Americas.Visited January 2024Traveled soloWritten January 21, 2024
- TrailTrekker15Tallahassee, Florida5,496 contributionsExcellent Art Museum with Free ExhibitsMy wife and I had a couple of hours before heading to the airport for our flight. We decided to visit the Dallas Art Museum. The main exhibits were free though there is a parking fee of $20. We enjoyed the Americas exhibit the most. The Greco-Roman and Egyptian collections were much less robust than the northeastern museums but had a nice cross section of various types of art. Overall, it was a good museum and we enjoyed our time.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2024
- Alesha WDallas, Texas32 contributionsA wonder in DallasI went to DMA 1st Sundays and it was amazing! I did not get to every floor because there is so much to see. Art is very diverse and was breathtaking! Will return soon. The cafe was cool, sat out and enjoyed people watching. 10/10 highly recommend!Visited January 2024Traveled soloWritten March 21, 2024
- Robin BPhoenix, Arizona1,486 contributionsEnjoyable collectionThis is a very nice museum. The two shows that were on while we were visiting were excellent and we also enjoyed the permanent collection of American art. They have a nice gift shop, but I found the prices even higher than most art museums. We didn’t have trouble finding parking on the street at a meter on a Sunday. I can’t speak for parking the rest of the time and we couldn’t find the underground garage for the museum despite driving around the block twice. The Nasher Sculpture garden is a huge pass.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 25, 2024
- Mark HFond du Lac, Wisconsin4,428 contributionsDo yourself a favor, go for short walk if you'e downtown, enjoy some art and clear your headI was looking for something to do while I had break in my work schedule. The Dallas Museum of Art is just a short walk from the massive downtown Marriott. An exhibition of the Impressionists (runs through 11.03.24) was just the ticket to go for short walk in the sun. The show was well-thought out by telling the story of the period when these artists were outliers in the French art scene. I also enjoyed the gold art from pre-Columbian cultures and the stories behind it. Do yourself a favor, go for short walk if you'e downtown, enjoy some art and clear your head.Visited March 2024Traveled soloWritten March 29, 2024
- NakstraniAustin, Texas103 contributionsDo visit! If you are a museum buff, this is a good museum to visit while in Dallas. It has well curated collection of European, Asian, Latin American exhibits. It also holds special exhibits. We were lucky to catch the Impressionists Revolution from Monet to Matisse & Islamic Art while we were there. It has a cafe & a gift shop as well.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 28, 2024
- Celine DUnited States10 contributionsHidden treasure in the heart of the cityThe Dallas Museum of Art feels like a hidden treasure in the heart of the city. The collection is vast, spanning ancient to modern art, but it never feels overwhelming. I love how accessible it is—general admission is free, inviting everyone to explore. The space is open, full of light, and easy to wander, with something surprising around every corner. It’s the kind of place you can visit again and again, and always discover something new.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 8, 2024

The museum itself is lovely. However, I cannot say the same about the staff. The staff was tracking my family and me. I literally would catch them following us. I would walk from one gallery, and once we transferred to that other gallery, the other staff would pick us up and follow.
It was not until I had to use my training to throw them off that they quit following me. I would study how they [staff] would follow certain people. You need to train your staff to at least be less conspicuous about following people. Some people know they are being followed. I avoided confrontation for the simple fact I did not want to cause a scene. I was told not to get close to the paintings. Okay, I understand as an artist myself, I know. I was studying the brush strokes, but after that, we would glance and keep it moving. So, your untrained staff would not approach us complaining.
*** a tip if you have the description next to the painting or artifact in Times New Roman six font, it is tough to read, and a person must get next to the piece to read the description. Maybe think about putting a glass casing around the paintings if you are pressed about people getting two feet from a painting/artifact. Also, perhaps make a description away from the piece such as a stand a distance away so that people would not have to approach so close. The wires on the ground that keep people a foot away maybe put those around the wall and perhaps just everywhere. Such as to create a DMZ ***
However, I did not see the staff tell the families with kids running around sculptures anything. It made it seem as if we were being targeted for a specific reason.
Overall, we are glad we did not pay and avoided giving our donations, and we will be telling people about the experience. Especially the art community in our area, and hopefully, they [art community] will have a better experience than us but reading other comments. I see it is common for people to complain about the same thing.
I recommend seeing the Crow Museum of Asian Arts. Even though it is not the size of the Dallas art museum, the staff were welcoming, and we gladly donated to them. We will never go back to the Dallas art museum.
However, let us not talk about the artifacts. If you know what I am talking about, you will know what I mean.
TRAIN YOUR STAFF
If you would like to reach out if you want some authentic leadership, I could tell the museum lacks that.

I'll admit I'm not a big museum lover but I was pretty surprised at how boring this museum was. It's massive and yet it barely had anything inside of it. The sculpture garden had 2 sculptures in it. I believe admission is always free and it's a 2 min walk from Klyde Warren Park so it doesn't hurt at all to stop in and stroll about, but you definitely don't need a lot of time. Pay for cheap parking on the street and budget yourself 20 - 30 minutes.

They never should have made it free admission! Many visitors have no skin in the game and do not appreciate the venue.
Exiting the parking garage is a bottle neck! The unmanned payment machine is not user friendly and so numerous visitors have trouble paying. We paid at the kiosk inside the museum, but the machine at exit of garage could not read our ticket stub.
We witnessed numerous visitors ahead of us struggling to get the machine to acknowledge their payment!!

The Dallas Museum of Art does not disappoint. It has a wide variety of exhibits from contemporary works to classic famous pieces like Claude Monet’s Water Lillies. The museum itself is stunning inside and out with Kyburn Park just opposite. We visited during the “Speechless” exhibit which was one of the many highlights of our trip, a sensory and interactive exhibit like nothing I have ever seen before. My personal favourite was Ragnar Kjartansson’s “The Visitors”, an incredibly emotional exhibit that left us feeling moved after experiencing it.

Saw the Van Gogh ‘Olive Trees’ exhibit. The colors in the paintings were spectacular, and can’t be duplicated in reproductions. I think the price is $20 a person if you are not a member of the museum, which is the price of a movie these days, if you go to the wrong location. The vibration of the colors is something you will never experience in a movie, and there is only a short time to experience them in Dallas.

Sizeable collection spanning several disciplines arrayed over multiple floors (never did discover how to access 2nd floor directly from the ground floor and it has probably the most viewed exhibits). Leave several hours if you want to thoroughly explore and give more than a passing glance to the fairly extensive holdings of non-western art. Don't miss the early American either, and if you enjoy decorative arts; there's a fair representation of both European and American as well. The weakest collection might be contemporary, but that also may be because a huge amount of exhibit space is now being occupied by a (so-so) special exhibit on rooms and such. Attracted by the neon house, I paid for that and while OK, it ended up being more space than thought. For me. Overall a very worthwhile experience that, because FREE, I was able to spread over one evening and early afternoon the next day.

This Museum is OK. Nothing compared to the Museums in New York and Washington DC. In fact, The Meadows museum on SMU campus is quite lovely.
That said, The Dior Collection and exhibit was over the top. This museum is great when there is a visiting exhibit. the Dior exhibit was from Paris to the World and rich in History, Fashion and Beautifully displayed. We even learned how Stanley Marcus and his relationship with Christian Dior helped build and expand this Iconic brand. The bar is limited and disappointing. There is nothing inviting us to stay on property--no restaurant. This is a great venue for weddings.

Dallas Museum of Art has absolutely beautiful architecture for the building and a wonderful art collection. The European art collection is especially good. This museum is very well laid out in four floors, and the full museum can be viewed in 2 or 3 hours. No admission charge but parking in the parking garage is $15. This museum is strongly recommended without any qualification.

The Dallas Museum of Art is a great place to visit. The admission is free but it’s best to reserve your free ticket online. The Museum has countless artworks from renowned artist like Picasso and Monet, but also has art from many modern day artist. This is a great museum to visit if you enjoy art or want to try a great attraction with your family.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, I highly recommend visiting the Dallas Museum of Art.

Great encyclopedic museum! If you are not yet a member, you are missing out. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the artwork. Their gift shop is full of cute items. They have all sorts of events for members such as member only viewing hours, more general admission tickets spots, free special exhibitions, free chats with curators on new exhibitions, etc. I love coming here and can spend all day. There's 4 floors to visit plus the conservation studio and the sculpture garden. They recently had orchestra and ballet performances for free.
I love what they're doing in regards to precautions surrounding covid. Reservations for general admission and all the hand sanitizer stations. Limited doorway entries. The members only hours so we can be there without all the crowds before they even open to the public.

I'm sorry, but I really don't know the answer to that but they are very helpful so I would think if you call the museum they could let you know. :)

IF you're an art aficionado, days. If you research the exhibits in advance, I'd say a couple of hours per gallery.
Written April 2, 2015
I saw in one afternoon including a special exhibit, because that is all the time I had on a business trip. However I plan to go back on my next trip to Dallas. The pre Columbian collection is excellent and beautifully installed-- and the villa rooms have so many wonderful little surprises, difficult to absorb it all at once.

“How long does it take to see it?”
Written April 2, 2015
There are many interactive exhibits kids enjoy so allow 2.5 hours if you are taking the kids- they will be fidgety after that amount of time. If its just adults 3 hours.
