This neighbourhood maintains its own culture. Main Street is lined up with different bars, restaurants, and small stores. It is also surrounded by graffiti and different murals around the neighbourhood.
It is very close to downtown area.

If you love live music this is a great place to walk around and have your pick of clubs and bars to choose from. There's always something going on and lots of street art to look at. Its a very eclectic area, as much as I love it there and have been going for years, I suggest going with a friend or group.

What a vibrant place to visit. So many bars and resturants in this area. The food was fantastic...The Free Man had amazing live music every night. The art work is like no other..take the time to sit and enjoy and enjoy everything it has to offer

It's great to see a community come together for a cause and bring back a neighborhood that was in despair. Now the people on the outside need to patronize those businesses so they'll thrive. There's so many restaurants, bars and little shops to visit. It's free to walk around and see all of the murals all while getting exercise.

Grabbed a coffee earlier in the day and came back for dinner. Definitely busier at night, even on a Sat night easily found metered parking. Fun area to walk around with a great variety of places to grab a quick bite or full mean.

A friend suggested that we check out this hip place called Deep Ellum. Cool name, I know. We dove a few blocks and noticed all of the various restaurants bars and art galleries. We decided to find a restaurant to eat at once we found parking, which was a beast. We walked back into our surprise. The restaurant was no longer excepting customers. Apparently they were way behind in schedule and we’re not letting any more customers in to dine so we found another restaurant around the block and had a yummy meal there.
We went to a restaurant whose theme was devils. We were seated right away and ordered two main entrées that were pretty good. It was a very nice ambience its funky, music, eclectic people and art. We had a great time and we can’t wait to visit Deep Ellum again. The parking was atrocious and it was a Sunday night. It took us over 30 minutes to look for parking but we did eventually find it and Parking was only like a dollar an hour or something ridiculous like that.

This neighborhood, with its rich music and entertainment history, is definitely a place to visit if you are in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. There are a number of really good restaurants and bars, the latter offers opportunities to experience some great live music.
There is a nice counter culture feel to this entire area, so if that's your type of thing...by all means check Deep Vellum out.

Came expecting something like Wynwood in Miami or U Street in DC - pretty disappointed. It's not artsy, craftsy, or even all that funky. It's a bunch of bars and rather glum retail overlaid with rumbling highways on one end and petering out to a rather glum residential section on the other. Somehow, they manage to think it worth charging for parking even on a Sunday afternoon. Not a destination spot unless you're with a group of drinking friends and even then I don't get that much vibe out of it. Vastly overrated IMOP.

Walked around the Deep Ellum district of Dallas when exploring the city. It has a hip feel and I loved all the street art everywhere, including the Robot Sculptures. Some funky places to eat, drink and shop too. The Texas BBQ place, Pecan Lodge, is well worth a visit for some authentic, delicious BBQ.

We went to the Deep Ellum area for lunch after visiting the 6th Floor Museum in downtown. Deep Ellum has a much better variety of local restaurants. We chose Terry Black's and enjoyed our meal. Take note that parking is limited but some restaurants have lots.

Is this enclosed? Would it be a place to go to in January?

It's a street full of bars, restaurants, and shops. It's nice and there's a great BBQ place called Pecan Lodge which is quite an institution. We also went to Punk Rock karaoke at the Three Links where you can get up and sing with a live band. Some of the people were really good! Very entertaining

Is there any bars that have DJ's or bands that play top 40 or rock ? I'm 40 and trying not to go to actual club

You have several places you can go to. I'm 41 and enjoy most (not all) of the restaurants, bars, DJ's, and live music. My personal favorite spots are: the green room, brick & bones, witz end, dot's, the free man!! Well to the 40 family..ENJOY!!!

How safe is Deep Ellum at night? I'm planning to check out the Oaktopia music festival in November.

Like any big city today you must be aware of low traffic areas. Stay in the public places and if possible travel in a group. This section of Dallas is pretty safe. I've never felt uneasy in this vicinity. Falls is a friendly city and the cops here take security serious
