What people are saying
Glamping yurt not worth it
Apr 2022
We stayed in the new “glamping” yurt and it was a terrible experience. It’s made for 2 people, but when I called saying there’s a group of 4 girls they made it seem like it isn’t a big deal as long as we don’t hold a party and mess up the place. It’s a glamping experience, we should be their target market, yet the whole time we were there they made it clear we are not welcome and they want us gone. They literally told us they only want couples staying there, not us. So we were already super uncomfortable during our stay. Next, there was no WiFi even though they clearly advertise WiFi. We specifically chose a place with WiFi so we could do some work. When we told them, they insinuated that we stole the router…why would we steal a router??! I think they never had one in the first place. They also never installed one while we were there, so I still think there is no router there and no WiFi and they don’t plan on putting one in. They tried to make up for it by giving us a key to a WiFi area, but then we ended up spending our entire vacation in the WiFi area and not the yurt. They told us they would “obviously give us a discount” the first day, and then refused to give us one the last day. We were trying to be flexible with them but they treated us so rudely and like we were so unwelcome, it was genuinely the worst park experience I’ve ever had and I’m not one to write bad reviews. On top of that, there are bugs that burrow in the wood at the yurt and you can hear them crunching all night, and in the morning there is sawdust all over the floor from their chewing. We told them that and they said they know, and pretty much deal with it because we are in nature. I know we are, but don’t try to sell a glamping experience for $250 a night and also tell us to deal with the burrowing beetles while treating us unkindly and falsely advertise WiFi and expect us to just brush off the experience. Their response was that there are not supposed to be 4 people so they won’t discount us. Well, they were being very ambiguous about it when we asked about the situation so it honestly felt like it was okay, and when we told them that they asked who we talked to in order to target the employee. It was so awkward and unkind and I felt such a terrible vibe from the management. I’m just honestly so shocked at how we were treated, i genuinely never want to go there again and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

You can't beat walking or biking for free on top of the Joe Pool Lake dam. We come here time after time for the scenery and free exercise. The best time to come is late April or early May when you can see the bluebonnets blooming. But this is always a beautiful place to walk or ride a bike. You will always see boats, sailboats, and jet skiers on the lake. On the east side, there is free parking and restrooms are available. Cars can enter the parking area without paying a state park fee. On the west side, you may park for free at the Oasis restaurant/marina parking lot. Food is available on the west side, but not the east. The east side parking area closes at 10:00 P.M. See directions below. The dam is very popular and you will always see other visitors walking and biking. I've never been here at 10:00 P.M., but I've always felt very safe here in the daylight hours.
To get to the dam from the east side, follow highway 1382 until you see a 60 foot (or so) radio tower on the west side of the highway. Turn in at that entrance. About a dozen cars can easily park in the parking spaces. Enjoy your relaxing visit.

Watching the sailboats on Joe Pool Lake can take the edge off the toughest day. My intent and expectation is to have a sailboat again and spend more time on the water.

This place is just beautiful! There is something for everybody. There's a nice marina, a wonderful park with lots of camping and barbqueing facilities. Great beach as well.

I'm not sure how the boaters are doing, but bank fishing has been terrible for the last several years.

Enjoyed the peacefulness of our location. The fishing wasn't all that great but we had a good time. My daughter fed ducks and we enjoyed the mild weather for a November. Will go back when it's less hot and less cool.

The park was an excellent location for the family reunion.
The pavilion was a nice size, we were right on the lake, near the bathrooms and playground. Parking was close by and the atmosphere and the cleanliness of the park was just perfect! We also was able to enjoy the concert that was out in the park, in a different area but still was able to hear it. Everyone in the park that day appeared to really enjoy themselves. I know we did!

Family friendly to party cove. There's fun for everyone. Two beaches for family/ friendly fun. It's not a huge party lake like lewisville. You can either be in the cove to party if you want or enjoy family time away from it.

The park was decently laid out. There were plenty of picnic tables and the view of the lake was pleasant.

That being said... The lake was DIRTY! I would not let my kid swim in it. Our picnic also was raided by ants, but can't fault the park for that.

Overall, it is a nice place for a picnic, but that's it.

Good place to go on a nice cool summer night! Food's okay, but sitting out on the water can be very relaxing while listening to the band play.

Joe Pool Lake is one of the newest bodies of water in the metroplex area. It offers a wide range of recreation from boating, fishing, skiing, fishing, etc.... There are camp grounds in the area. There is also a marina on the lake with a restaurant, fishing barge etc...
