Returning from the interior of Abruzzo on the last stage, the Touring suggests this splendid, extensively restored Benedictine Abbey, flourishing in the Middle Ages, contrasted in more modern times. The Renaissance architecture of the facade, the portico, the symmetrical windows is striking, the absence of the bell tower destroyed and no longer (rightly) rebuilt, of the magnificent park with evergreen plants and centuries-old trees, the archaeological area and then the interior are striking. Entering means discovering the verticality of the spaces flooded with light, the depth of the central nave which ends with the historiated marble tabernacle, the central pulpit, the sculpted columns. The emptiness of spaces, rich in the essentials to understand spirituality. Crypt of pure material beauty. Here, after my solitary contemplative tour I stopped with the young expert, responsible for the site that represents the artistic hub of the region. Time: 1.30pm, on Sunday! When would there ever be such an extended opening day on a holiday?

I wanted to see her again after so many years; although I often pass through this area, I could never see her. Unfortunately, even this time, I found this Romanesque jewel closed, as in the afternoon it is open only on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It is worth a stop, considering also the proximity from the nearby A24.

The church is very beautiful, both the exterior, particular, and the interior, in Romanesque style. Free admission. The film which can be viewed in the nearby museum, with a display of historical artefacts, is very well done. A visit to absolutely recommend. Furthermore, it is located very close to the motorway toll booth, making it a convenient detour if you are passing through.

A few minutes from the motorway exit is this charming Romanesque abbey. The completely bare interior approaches spirituality. The exterior facade is very interesting, rich in details.
I always recommend calling to know the opening hours.

We visited late in the day when no one was around, very quiet and different from traditional churches. Especially beautiful site when the sun is going down on the snow capped mountains.
Don't forget to pop into Torre de Passeri to the Bar del Corso for a delicous home made icecream after your visit!

it's impressive! we heard about it and stopped by during our stay in abruzzo. it's worth a visit!
dating back in the middle age (871 according to Chronicon Casauriense), it is very well preserved and still used today.. (luckily we arrived an hour before a wedding was celebrated).

The abbey is beutifully restored. The stone monuments inside are carefully ciselled and look like new. Worth a detour.

We don't live far from this wonderful Abbey but it's the first time we visited it. We were not disappointed, just sorry we had waited so long! Over and around the bronze door there are lovely historical sculptures. Go down to the crypt, it's really something. There is also a small museum and lovely gardens. There is parking outside and the Abbey can be reached by the A25 motorway, exit Torre de Passeri. It is advisable to check visiting times.

We visited this Abbey with a friend. It is a majestic building and very tranquil. There are gardens to wander around, though not big, and a museum. It is only open in the mornings so timing of your visit is essential. I would certainly put this on the agenda for other friends to visit.

A very beautifull and tranquil place. Never tire of visiting this Abbey. The Gardens are well worth a stroll around. Access to the Abbey is good and there is plenty of parking.

Shame on MIBACT!
