    Go chasing waterfalls
If there is a waterfall that I can swim at, the answer is always yes! I did this hike with my parents (who are very fit but 70 years old) and they struggled a bit. The hike is very steep with make shift stairs and they struggled to keep their balance a bit. Once we got down the 100+ stairs, the pool at the bottom to swim in was beautiful, and a local even showed me where it was safe to dive into. Beautiful falls. If you are fit and confident of hiking skills, would recommend

Great waterfall amazing views and good swimming by the fall.
Very good waterfall, not crowded. We went there on a Monday morning in late December (busy travel season), and we we were the only people there. Few people showed up around midday, but it was not crowded at all. Drive there from San Ignacio was not too bad, most of the road is paved, but the last 5km was pretty bumpy. Then there was a short walk down on wooden steps which was also easy to manage. The falls were great, amazing views, and swimming in the fall area was amazing. Recommend a visit.

    Beautiful waterfall
Beware of the hike down to see the falls- very steep and extremely slippery if it has been raining. But the view is well worth the hike if you are up for it. People can go swimming in the area below the falls. I did not get in, so I am not sure how warm the water feels. Wear mosquito repellent and bring a first aid kit in case of falls.

We visited here today and it was a really pretty falls but please please be aware that the stepped path down is pretty treacherous and the rocks towards the falls super slippery.

Our guide Edwin from Edwin’s Adventure Tours was very clear with us ahead of time so we had good footwear and we’re very glad we did as it rained when we visited.

Lovely view and cool falls worth a visit - we combined it with Rio On Pools which made for a lovely afternoon - thanks Edwin for suggesting

My husband & I biked to Big Rock Falls from Gaia. We hiked down the somewhat treacherous wooden stairs that were embedded with nails for traction. The trail has a few railings missing in some places but all in all not too scary. The Waterfall is impressive and the swimming spot feels divine after the bike & hike. We were there on a Sunday so it was a bit crowded but we still had fun. We saw some people jump off the big rock into the water in front of the falls and even mustered up the courage to do it ourselves. It was thrilling and fun but beware the rocks are VERY very slippery. Try not to hurt yourself by sliding around too much. I bruised my foot by slipping and falling on the rocks. Ouch. It started to rain after we were there for awhile so we packed up & started the trek back in the mud. We should have just waited it out but you live and you learn.

The falls were nice and the water was definitely refreshing after the hike from Blancaneaux. As others mentioned, once you get here there are a number of steep steps to get down to (and out from) the falls - these were mostly manageable. Water was cool for this time of year but not too bad (I'm sure it's amazing during the summer). The hike from Blancaneux takes 45 to 60 minutes and I would classify it as an intermediate level of hiking - you'll need to be moderately active in order to do it.

Big rock falls was a beautiful waterfall with large deeps pools that you can swim around in and a great view. However getting there is a bit of a journey, first you have to travel down a long bumpy dirt road and then park in a small parking spot. Then you have to walk for about two minutes to the top of the stairs which are quite steep and rickety. Getting down the stairs doesn’t take too long but be carful not to fall. Once you are there, it is quite nice to swim in but if you are planning to jump off the rocks into the water be very carful, a lot of people were slipping off the rocks and someone almost got very hurt. I would say stick to just swimming in the pools if you want to play it safe.

We ventured twice to Big Rock from Blancaneaux Lodge, first by hike, then by mountain bike. Steep hill down to the falls, rocks slippery as an FYI. Loved it so much we had to go back the next day. We were amazed at how much it resembled Canada. 👌🇨🇦Gaia Lodge close by for good food and drink and spectacular views.

This location was absolutely stunning! We took our young kids, ages 7 & 9, and they were totally able to handle the trek down and back up the stairs. The hike was totally worth it - the falls were stunning and it was so fun to take a dip in the pools. We stayed about an hour. Out of San Ignacio, the road to the Falls is a brand new highway, although the last couple of miles are unpaved and kind of tricky - not too much for our two wheel drive small SUV. There are no services so bring your own snacks and water, and be prepared to change at your car :) Highly recommend!

The falls was beautiful. The trip there was a little scary. 😟 There was a heavy rain the night before so the road to the falls was slick clay with some slimy ruts. After we made it to the "parking" lot the trail to the falls was on a steep not well maintained stairway. The falls is beautiful and worth the adventure to get there. It is used as a swimming hole so be prepared if you plan to get pictures.
