What a delightful surprise when we took our grandkids to the Texas Reptile Zoo. The boys were enthralled by the reptiles and the stories told by the zoo’s very dedicated co-owner. We all left with big smiles on our faces and a new appreciation for reptiles.

This place doesn’t look like much. You can tell that all the habitats are made by the owner. But let me tell you. This is the coolest “zoo” trip we’ve been on. The owner hangs out outside and will tell you about the animals. Also, there were some snakes and others that were kinda hiding so he’d pull them out to where we could actually see them. He also fed the crocodile, one of the snakes, and some of the tortoises so the kids could watch. We spent about and hour and ten minutes here. The price for a family of 4 was $40. You won’t be disappointed. Also, at 10am (when it opens) there was only us plus another family of 4 there. Side note, you’ll pass right by this place if you’re not paying attention.

My wife and I arrived on the first day of the season and we were skeptical looking from the outside, but thank goodness we decided to go in! The Texas reptile zoo boasts an extraordinary number of snakes, tortoises, crocodiles, and lizards from all over the world. We basically received a private tour from Tim, who told us all about the animals and their back stories (some are rescued). We even got to see a feeding of one of the snakes as well as a large monitor! The zoo is large and built so that guests are allowed to be closer to the animals then any other zoo that I've ever been to. Overall, very much worth the admission fee and I would visit again.

We went on a hot Friday afternoon and had the place practically to ourselves. The owner gave us a private tour, and we got to watch the tortoise and crocodile feedings. He is very friendly and knowledgeable, and willing to answer all manner of questions. Anyone would come out of a visit with a better understanding and appreciation of reptiles from many places in the world.

What a great experience! I have never submitted a review before but I really was impressed with our experience. Our teenage nephew loves reptiles and we thought it would be worth checking out. It was well worth our time. It is clear that Tim and Julie have a passion for what they do. It is rare to see such a passion; it is obviously a labor of love. I love how Tim walked throughout the zoo answering different visitors' questions. The animals are very well taken care of; there are indoor and some outdoor attractions (sunscreen and a bottle of water is a good idea (although they sell some there too). We all will be returning!
