I’m giving it a 4 because I’ve visited twice recently. The first time was excellent—5-star tour and perfect meal at the restaurant. The second time, however, was rather disappointing—maybe 3-star worthy. Can’t confirm, but suspected the tour guide during the most recent visit was stoned (I’m definitely not anti-weed by any means, but professionally, I certainly would never use it at my job right before interacting with paying customers). Speech was slow, he kept pausing to remember his story, repeating things, going over to point out equipment while leaving the group sitting across the room, etc., causing the tour to run nearly 30 min longer than the stated time. This was disappointing because we had dinner reservations at the restaurant that we were trying to stay on time for due to another event we needed to attend afterward. Based on previous distillery tours I’ve been on, I don’t think all of the information he gave was completely accurate either. Once we finally got to the restaurant and were seated, we waited for service for several minutes before the hostess finally came over and brought water because our server was busy doing a tasting with another table..? I asked if we could go ahead and order food, but she said no. We wait a few more minutes before another server comes over and offers to take our drink orders, but says our server will have to get our food orders. So we watched the our server finish the tasting, then go tend to all her other tables before finally addressing us. We got spinach dip and salsa. I’m not sure either of them was freshly made. But about 5 minutes after our appetizer arrived, our entrees came out, which makes me suspect those weren’t fresh either. Crab cakes and pork chop were good, but collard greens had a strange taste. Asked for some pepper sauce or vinegar to help the flavor but was told they didn’t have that. Would’ve ordered dessert, but didn’t have time due to the tour being so long. I’m sure I’ll be back, but hope it’s more like the first visit next time.

Of the three distillery tours we completed on 11-13-21 the Short Mountain was the Best. The tour was very relaxing and informative; and included tastings at no additional charge. Their bottle prices were especially good for the premium spirits that they produce. We highly recommend making this Distillery a must stop.

My wife, my sister and I visited Short Mountain Distillery on a chilly Saturday in early February. We were greeted by Shane who gave us a very interesting tour of the original building and still, then proceeding to the new facility with the modern still, oak barrels and bottling machine. He discussed the process of making moonshine as well as the history; including the origin of the term "moonshine", the impact of Prohibition and other interesting facts. We then walked to the restaurant where an interesting gentleman named Foster gave us a tasting of their products and guided us through the making of "moonjitos", "shinearitas" and an apple-ginger flavored concoction . All of these were delicious and his presentation was outstanding. We ended our visit with lunch at their restaurant which was amazing. They offer a great selection of dishes with a number of vegetarian options.
If you are in the Nashville, Chattanooga or Knoxville area I would highly recommend visiting Short Mountain Distillery.

The tour was casual, fun, and informative. The owner joined our guide on the patio for the tasting and we enjoyed his stories as we sipped each of the spirits produced by the distillery. They offered a wide variety of flavors and alcohol content, so there was something for individual preferences. The casual atmosphere of sitting in rocking chairs on the patio allowed for fun conversation among the hosts and fellow tour participants. We followed with a short walk to the restaurant on the premises and enjoyed an excellent meal in beautiful surroundings. The chicken wing appetizers were juicy and delicious. My husband had a burger that was cooked to perfection. Fries were hot, crisp, and nicely seasoned. The highlight of the meal was my pork belly sandwich. More meat than could fit on the bun, with a tasty charcoal sear and deliciously juicy meat inside. What a treat.

We planned a trip to Short Mountain Distillery. Must make reservations online. Website offers option to print confirmation number. (Confirmation must be important). They also send an email reminding you of your reservation. Don't no show! We drove 1 1/2 hours for a moonshine tour and dinner reservation. When we got there, we were the only attendees there. No need to show confirmation. The manager walked up to us and advised us that the person who does the tour was out on an emergency and there would be no tours this week. I'm very sorry to hear about the emergency but the manager had my name, email and phone number. We would not have driven 90 minutes each way just for supper. I would have rescheduled. The place was cute. Much smaller than I expected. Basically a small barn for the tour and a house that has been renovated into a restaurant. The food was very good and we did get free moonshine tastings but we felt that we invested a lot of planning and time into something that turned out to be a long drive just for supper. I was just disappointed that we were not notified that our tour had been cancelled. I am unsure why only one person was capable of doing the tour or why the manager was not capable. It had potential to be a really fun experience (though very small) but I was very disappointed since we had invited another couple and they took their time to go based on my recommendation. Probably won't get a second chance.

My husband and I went to Short Mountain Distillery while on vacation Labor Day weekend.. Took the tour, very informative on how they make their moonshine and whiskey. As an added bonus we got some entertainment, since Bonnaroo music festival was cancelled, about 3000 people showed up at the distillery because the distillery is on green land.(Green land is free to the public) We had a great time.

Me and some friends went on the haunted hayride yesterday. When you purchase the tickets it states you get a basket with 4 apple ciders, 4 cookies and a bag of popcorn. They stayed the popcorn wasn’t ready but had us board and then said they would bring the apple cider to us but instead they just went ahead and drove us through the woods. When we got back we assumed we would then get our stuff but instead the group after us was waiting to board with their baskets of cookies and popcorn and cider. I then went to ask and they said sorry there was no extra I asked why the next group got some but there was not any for us when we got back they just kept saying sorry there was no extras. Finally someone said that they would go to the restaurant and make some for us. They came back from the restaurant and started to prepare the baskets for the second group after us. I again had to ask where our stuff was they finally gave us some but not 4 apple cider only 2 even tho there was 4 in my group. There was also another lady complaining about this as well from my group. My name and number was wrote down for a manager to call and issue me a refund, however I’ve yet to hear anything. The hayride itself could be better, I believe they have a opportunity to have more people jump out and scare you. Overall I’m upset how the basket situation was handled.

The tour and tasting were great! After the tour, my wife and I went to the restaurant on the property for dinner. The restaurant staff seemed less than thrilled to be there. Our waitress only checked on our table once after ordering food, and the restaurant was not busy. However, the food was excellent.

I just hoped for a better customer experience from the restaurant staff. None of them were very friendly or seemed to care.

We drove from Chattanooga to Short Mountain to tour the distillery. Our guide was Foster and he was excellent and very entertaining. The distillery is small and the tour was about an hour. Foster gave us a lot of interesting information about the history of the area and the distilling process. We also had made reservations at the restaurant for a late lunch and the food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. I would definitely recommend this day trip.

This distillery and restaurant is well worth the drive (from Nashville). The distillery tour guide (Foster) was a well of knowledge on the history of distilling and moonshine in TN. The restaurant had an excellent menu with delicious ingredients sourced from local farms, and service was friendly and personable.
