We went onto the "Missing Link" section and the views are amazing. There are less people than in the main sections of the National Park. It is very peaceful and beautiful.

We finally got to drive the recently opened section between Wears Valley and Townsend. I had no idea how spectacular the views of Wears Valley and Townsend would be. Even in the winter, the views were breathtaking. This section meanders through the foothills. We have...More

We decided to take the Foothills Parkway as the long scenic tour from our stay in Townsend back to Maryville on our way home from our weekend visit. While our drive occurred at the end of government shut down, the parkway and various pull offs...More

Great views along the drive. The new section has views into Townsend we haven't seen before. Once at the bridges, the views open to a great expansive view of the Smoky Mountains.

I am a local. This section of the Foothills Parkway has been a long time coming! It takes you from Townsend, TN, to Wears Valley. From there it is a short ride into Pigeon Forge, TN, and Gatlinburg, TN. If you are visiting the Smoky...More

Had the opportunity to drop the top on a warm January day and cruise the parkway. Beautiful views and no crowds on the new section recently opened. I expect once tourist season gets here it will be pretty busy. Places to pull off and enjoy...More

You have to drive this! The views are amazing. I feel like I can touch heaven as it is high up. Pull over, take pictures, and just feel the peace coming down the mountains.

Great views! I've lived within 20 minutes of this unfinished parkway for over five decades... It was worth the wait, and I'm so glad they finally finished it. Breathtaking! I do hope they place a plaque that memorializes those who lost their lives during the...More

The speed limit is 35 and many automatics will downshift on their own. May have to brake some.

Hi, I drove the new missing link Foothills opening day. The speed limit is 35mph and depending on the traffic and if you stop at the pull offs it should take you about 20-30 minutes.

Best way from Gatlinburg to Orlando (10 Replies)
I will be leaving Gatlinburg and driving to Florida. Mapquest says the best way is to get on 321 (parkway) to 73 (Wilton Springs Rd) to right on 40. On the map I see a Foothills Parkway that seems to connect to 40 and cuts out a lot of miles. From the map I am not sure about the hills and curves on either of the roads. Can someone tell me what they think is the best route to Orlando. Also is it really hilly and winding roads. I have a prius and concerned if the car can make it. Thanks

I would personally go back thru Knoxville to I-40 then take 75 to Chattanooga, Atlanta, etc. No surprises. Yes the other way is fraught with mountains and curves.

Would this be a good route to go to miss the traffic delays? We will be coming from Nashville.

It adds 40 miles or more to your trip than the 407 exit. However; depending on the date and time of day of your arrival, it may be worth it. When are you expecting to arrive?

Foothills Parkway construction? (6 Replies)
On our recent trip to the GSMNP we traveled from Cades Cove to Pigeon Forge via 321 and I saw an entry ramp to the closed Foothills Parkway. A few years ago during a fall visit we were able to drive on a closed section in Blount County that was temporarily opened for the weekend. Just wondering about the progress of the parkway constuction and will the full 70 plus miles ever be open? Thanks
