You can also hike small trails that are easy for those that can't handle the big hikes. We especially like the Tellico and Ocoee Districts. The rapids by both of them can be dangerous, but there are guided rides available for both. Many kayak... More

We had a great time on motorcycle traveling on the parkway from Townsend to Cherokee. We viewed black bears close to the road along with several deer. Best time to travel is early in the day since it is a popular place.

Visits in both March and April were very peaceful and relaxing. Highlights for me were to visit with friends and walk looking for wildflowers. What a beautiful area.

One of my favorite all time places to visit. Would love to live in this area April to October. The park and mountain scenery never gets old!

Somebody needs a geography lesson. Townsend is most definitely NOT in the Cherokee National Forest. It is at one entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The "date" of my visit is pure fiction, since you can't visit Townsend in the Cherokee National Forest!

Love going to the Smokies which are close by coming into Townsend. Lots of great places to hike, tube, picnic or just relax in the woods or by a mountain stream.

There are many roads that are not advertised that are well worth taking for scenery or leaf viewing. Beautiful time of the year is mid Oct. Look at the Parson's Branch Road for an out of the way trip.

Nice National Forest - worth the drive to Bald River Falls - take your bathing suit because it would be beautiful to swim there if it's warm.

Come when there is no moon or clouds, and the Milky Way is about as bright as you'll see it east of the Mississippi River. Also, around once every couple of months, the Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society meets near the top of the Cherohala Skyway, which is only about a 15 minute drive from the Indian Boundary Campground.
