We reserved our spot several days in advance. We had 10 riders ranging from 6 to 48 years old. The younger kids had to ride their own horse. None of our smaller kids had ridden before and we were nervous. Audrianna (sp) was our guide. While lining up the horses they put our smaller kids up front closer to her. She was great and really talked to our kids while riding to make them feel comfortable. I felt like they really tried to pair riders up with certain horses.
We did the 1 1/2 hour ride ($50 per person) which was muddy and hilly and fantastic. It was a great trail. The horses needed a lot of steering but we were warned of this in advance. I think it made the experience feel even more authentic. We will definitely visit again.

My 9 year old daughter was really look forward to her first horseback ride when we visited Townsend. We planned on going while in Cades Code but they were closed. She was upset. I looked around and Davy Crockett was recommended. I called and made reservation for a 60 min ride at 4:30. I was told to arrive about 4:15. We got there about 4:00 so we had to wait a bit.

All of the workers were very nice and answered the questions my kids had. They were a bit short at times but they were trying to get all of the groups on horses and on the trails.

The horses were well behaved and the staffed worked to match the best horse up with the rider. My kids 9 and 12 (first time on a horse)had a wonderful trail ride through the woods. I had a wonderful time too. The trail guide took time to stop every so often to check on everyone. My son’s horse decided to act up twice so the guide asked me if she could move him to the front of the line.

After the ride, staff took time to take pictures of each group of people. It was well worth the money and I would high recommend Davy Crockett for a horse ride especially if you have inexperienced riders and/or kids.

We did the hour and a half ride. Most of the ride was in forested areas so it never got too hot. Our horses were well behaved except when they would try to sneak a snack off some bushes or grass!
We had about 12 people in our group, my only complaint was we were way in the rear so we could not hear out guide. We go horseback riding every time we go to a National Park and normally they have a guide at the rear of the group too that also points out areas of interest. Also our guide kept stopping to look back and make sure we were all together which kind of interrupted the flow of the ride. Minor complaint, it was still a lot of fun.

After the ride one of the workers offered to take our pictures on the horse with our cell phone camera. Much better than trying to get you to pay $10-20 for one they took like we normally encounter. Also the price to ride was much cheaper than other park areas we have ridden.

Overall great time, all the workers were nice and friendly, will go again next time in the Smokies!

We go riding almost every time we're on vacation. This was a nice ride, but there wasn't anything particularly special about. Our guide was Scott, and he was especially good with the many kids on the ride - very patient. We went really slow, but there were several first time riders and some of those were kids so that made sense. The horses weren't the most obedient, but they fell in line after some prodding and were clearly well cared for. A one hour ride is $35 each and we made same day reservations. There are Trump stickers all over their office. Everyone we met was very nice. There was an adorable and friendly barn kitten too. I'd probably try somewhere else next time because the trail seemed a bit boring to me, but we had fun.

We had a great time riding our horse riding at Davy Crockett Riding Stables. We took the 90 minute ride around the homestead. I took my wife and my mother in law and our tour guide was great and the ride was relaxing I highly recommend Davy Crockett Riding Stables to anyone looking for a horse riding experience in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Townsend area.

After a little research I decided to book our first horseback ride with Davy Crockett Riding Stables. My husband, two grandsons (12&13) and I were camping at Little River Campground in Townsend and trying to decide between the Cades Cove stables inside the park or Davy Crockett. After seeing the crazy traffic in the park and realizing Cades Cove does not accept reservations we chose Davy Crockett. I’m so glad we did. Our guide was super patient with all the riders in our group. Both Davy Crockett and Cades Cove keep their groups on the trail to a small manageable number. We chose the hour ride and for us newbies it was just the right amount of time. Davy Crockett prices were a little cheaper than Cades Cove plus they had several options to choose from. Plus if you do a quick search online you can usually find a $2 off coupon. Don’t miss Tuckaleechee Caverns either while in the Townsend area. Owned by the same family. Well worth the time to see

Stable was easy to get to as we were staying close by (up the road from the stable), but there are signs on your way there if you are coming from the main road. Staff was very friendly, including the VERY white kitty that was on the greeting committee who made it a point to go up to everyone waiting to ride. We stopped by on our way up to our cabin to make the reservations, which I would encourage you to do just to make sure you are able to get to ride when you want to and get to enjoy a great experience!
There are several horses all very sweet and great at playing follow the leader throughout the 1.5 ride. Our guide Scott was great spoke throughout the ride but also let us take in the peacefulness of the ride. We were a party of 5, another couple and the guide, Scott. He was constantly looking back to make sure we were all ok and to encourage the horses as needed. Some areas were muddy and messy, but the horses maneuvered the trails well.
It was a great experience with the family. I would encourage anyone that was looking to ride while in Tennessee to check them out!

I rode at 4 different riding stables in the area of Pigeon Forge. Davy Crockett stables is 16 miles from Pigeon Forge on the outskirts of Cades Cove in Townscend, TN. It is well worth the drive. This stable allows appointments, no three hour wait like other places, the trip is a full hour long and through a quite shaded forest. A few slight hills but nothing major. The saddles were nice and picked based on the size of the rider. The price was quite fair, $30 for an hour. The horses were well kept, easily manageable and enjoyable.

I would definitely make reservations the week of as they generally don’t seem to be able to accommodate same day. As much as I would like to say something positive, the older woman doing the work with customers is not ideal. She was abrupt and rude. Our trip left 20 minutes late (but they want you there 15 min early, so lots of waiting around time) and it had 9 people. So, there’s no way anyone in the back half heard anything the “guide” was saying. I wouldn’t go back.

When we arrived, none of the employees walking around the property greeted us or offered assistance. We wandered around and found the office window to sign up for a one hour ride. I am 5’2 and they assigned me a tall horse, about 15 hands. I could barely reach the stirrup to get onto the horse. My husband is 6”. They assigned him a shortish horse, about 14 hands. The trail ride is not scenic. It’s a narrow trail up, around, and down a few hills. The trail was very muddy due to recent rains. Next time we will try Cades Cove stable. I don’t write bad reviews normally. We were disappointed by this experience.
