Family Horseback Riding Fun at Davy Crockett Riding Stables, Townsend, TN!
We had a group of 10 family members (ranging from 5 to 70 years old) participate in the one-hour horseback ride. Some of the younger children had never ridden a horse. We had a great guide who was wonderful working with the children. We spent a lot of time riding up and down hills in forested land and also had some great views of the nearby mountains. Everyone in our group rated this experience as one of our best during our week in the Smokies!

Fun Horseback riding for the Family, Patient guides, good views
on our trip to wander around Pidgeon forge, TN we were looking for a good stable for an outing with the wife and kids. I found Davy Crockett and they had a good price for a beginner ride compared to some of the other stables I looked at. I can't compliment them enough for their patience and professionalism with my kids (Daughter 7, son 10). My daughter was very intimidated by the size of the horse and I thought between the whining and crying that they were just going to say that she couldn't go and I would just have to sit with her. I could not have been more wrong. They were patient and understanding, they sat and talked to her to calm her down, the head rider lead her up with his horse the whole ride. He talked with her to help calm her down and by the end of the trip she was loving it. My son was a little bigger but was having some trouble keeping the horse from grazing occasionally and again the leader was patient and good natured and just helped him keep the horse focused. Overall the horses were good natured, the trail was a nice mix of flats and hills with good views and the ride for us was the perfect length. I cannot speak highly enough of the whole experience and look forward to going on longer trips the next time I'm in Tennessee.

    Awesome horseback riding experience
Awesome guide and horses!!! As an equestrian I expected this ride to be extremely boring as it’s all walking. It wasn’t at all. My horse Windy was so well mannered and behaved so well! The trails are gorgeous, and the staff is soooo friendly and accommodating! Will be back!

    Very friendly staff
Got a same-day reservation for our group of 11. Very friendly people who work there! Had several inexperienced riders in our group, but everyone did fine. Did the one hour ride and it is a trail that is all thru the woods. Saw some turkeys on the way. I totally recommend this place!

    A wonderful experience!!
This is a great choice for trail rides. Kelly was a wonderful guide who made sure we were all safe and happy on our two hour ride. The horses were all very well cared for with good fitting tack, plenty of fresh water, shade while they waited, and well cared for hooves. The staff made sure we were paired up with appropriately matched mounts, that our girths were tight and our stirrups the correct length. As an experienced horse owner, I would absolutely recommend this stable for their horse care and the quality of the ride.

Amazing first trail ride for my six year old and our family! Loved it!
My husband and I took our 6 year old for a 30 minute trail ride today and had the BEST time! She had done a few pony rides before in a small ring with someone leading her on foot but had never been on a trail ride on a real horse. She was a tiny bit nervous so Kelly our trail guide hooked so a lead line and put her right behind him to make her feel secure, but also encourage her that she could do this and let her feel independent. We had an amazing ride through beautiful woods and she loved every second of it. We will absolutely ride with them again next time we are in town and will recommend them to all our guests at our short term rental as well. What a great experience!

So much fun. We'd do it again!!
I didn't get the name of the young man that signed us in but everyone there was wonderful to work with. They really seemed to love their jobs and wanted everyone to have a good time. Kelly was our trail guide and I was impressed with how well he worked with the two children especially on our ride. He explained everything to begin with an then along the trail as well. If you're looking for a real trail ride, come here. They all love their jobs. the surroundings and their horses. Ask for Crewbacca if you want to be in the tail end of the group. He's a sweety but doesn't want anybody behind him.

We reserved our spot several days in advance. We had 10 riders ranging from 6 to 48 years old. The younger kids had to ride their own horse. None of our smaller kids had ridden before and we were nervous. Audrianna (sp) was our guide. While lining up the horses they put our smaller kids up front closer to her. She was great and really talked to our kids while riding to make them feel comfortable. I felt like they really tried to pair riders up with certain horses.
We did the 1 1/2 hour ride ($50 per person) which was muddy and hilly and fantastic. It was a great trail. The horses needed a lot of steering but we were warned of this in advance. I think it made the experience feel even more authentic. We will definitely visit again.

I rode at 4 different riding stables in the area of Pigeon Forge. Davy Crockett stables is 16 miles from Pigeon Forge on the outskirts of Cades Cove in Townscend, TN. It is well worth the drive. This stable allows appointments, no three hour wait like other places, the trip is a full hour long and through a quite shaded forest. A few slight hills but nothing major. The saddles were nice and picked based on the size of the rider. The price was quite fair, $30 for an hour. The horses were well kept, easily manageable and enjoyable.

We go riding almost every time we're on vacation. This was a nice ride, but there wasn't anything particularly special about. Our guide was Scott, and he was especially good with the many kids on the ride - very patient. We went really slow, but there were several first time riders and some of those were kids so that made sense. The horses weren't the most obedient, but they fell in line after some prodding and were clearly well cared for. A one hour ride is $35 each and we made same day reservations. There are Trump stickers all over their office. Everyone we met was very nice. There was an adorable and friendly barn kitten too. I'd probably try somewhere else next time because the trail seemed a bit boring to me, but we had fun.

After a little research I decided to book our first horseback ride with Davy Crockett Riding Stables. My husband, two grandsons (12&13) and I were camping at Little River Campground in Townsend and trying to decide between the Cades Cove stables inside the park or Davy Crockett. After seeing the crazy traffic in the park and realizing Cades Cove does not accept reservations we chose Davy Crockett. I’m so glad we did. Our guide was super patient with all the riders in our group. Both Davy Crockett and Cades Cove keep their groups on the trail to a small manageable number. We chose the hour ride and for us newbies it was just the right amount of time. Davy Crockett prices were a little cheaper than Cades Cove plus they had several options to choose from. Plus if you do a quick search online you can usually find a $2 off coupon. Don’t miss Tuckaleechee Caverns either while in the Townsend area. Owned by the same family. Well worth the time to see

We loved this place! The guides were awesome and the manager/owner helpful. This was our 8 year daughter’s first time riding and she completed 4 rides this week. The guides were experts and really put her at ease and helped her feel confident on her horse Gypsy!
I would definitely recommend this riding experience to anyone young or old, singles or families. Thank you to all the guides Rhonda, Whitney, Lee, and Scott.

We had a great time riding our horse riding at Davy Crockett Riding Stables. We took the 90 minute ride around the homestead. I took my wife and my mother in law and our tour guide was great and the ride was relaxing I highly recommend Davy Crockett Riding Stables to anyone looking for a horse riding experience in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Townsend area.

We called and booked our time in advance. Not much was said upon arrival by staff they all just kind of sat around on their phones. When it was our turn our group including us 3 and 6 others were given horses to hold onto until someone came along and helped us get on. The horse trail leader said a few quick directions and we were off up a muddy climb. My husbands horse slipped a few times. We could barely hear the leader in the front giving directions. My husband’s horse started getting nippy at my son who was riding in front of him and nipping his horse too. My sons horse started getting upset rightfully so no one wants to be nipped by a horse the guide came back and dragged my son’s horse up to where he was in the front with a little girl . At this point my son was upset and wanted to turn back. The guide phoned and someone came and escorted us back. I really think smaller children should be given more support and directions. I also think they should put a guide at the back of the group so others can hear. I understand animals are animals but I think think this could have been prevented. There was no apology or offer for some refund. I wouldn’t recommend if you haven’t ridden in a while or have small children!

We drove in from Gatlinburg and We walked up to be able to ride horses and the staff didn’t seem interested in having us ride. They asked “what do you want to do”, no explanation of tours or anything. They asked my husbands weight he told them and they just walked off We turned around and told them never mind and we left. Not really sure why they are in business if they aren’t interested in people coming to ride the horses. Note to self…we were their only customers.
