This center has several good things going for it. First it has covered picnic tables. Secondly, the bathrooms are clean. Third, there is a photo op inside with a black bear display. Last, there are unique art & craft items by local artists inside which are cool to see. Also, there is a museum next door which looks interesting.

Cherohala Skyway visitor center never disappoints. We have visited three times and all three times whoever is working knows so much about the area, so friendly and helpful. Especially if you’re new to the area, this should be your first stop
Special thanks to Lisa, Brady and Suzanne.

After stopping to see the Bald River falls we decided to take the drive all the way through the mountains. It was a wonderful drive. We completely enjoyed it. If you find somewhere that has a map I would highly suggest it. I just wish the maps would have had more information on them I. Regards to what could be seen at each point, how far till you would be able to get food, where you could stope for a picnic or where it was safe to hike. I almost forgot which side of the road the look out points will be on. We didn’t have any cell service while on this drive so please please have a map. We didn’t get lost because I had a brochure with a small map. But didn’t know how long of a drive it was going to be. Have fun and enjoy it.

I didn't spend much time in the visitor center but that time I did spend was well worth it. The staff member was very welcoming and helpful. She gave me a map and made suggestions based on our travel from West to East. There are a variety of free pamphlets in the center that may be of interest to travelers as well.

A Porsche club and a Jeep club met there. We received great information at the center. Spent hours at the 2 free museums next door. And, were treated to a parade of Porsche then Jeeps enjoying picnics.

The Cherohala Skyway was once a hidden treasure known and loved only by locals. It is beautiful most any time of the year but especially so in the Autumn. Their are some lovely side roads also. The trip to the Tellico Ranger Station (built by the CCC in the 1930's) is well worth the time. Spend some time at the Bald River Falls also. If the water is up they are magnificent. Stop in at the Visitors Center also. Very nice collection of local and Native American artifacts.

Unfortunately, it has become more popular with speed motorcyclists in in recent years. They treat it as their personal time trials road constantly ignoring speed limits. I have traveled the Skyway by motorcycle - at a leisurely pace - to enjoy the scenery. It's a great, curvy ride. Just watch out for the speeders and let them pass. You will probably see them later as they pull their bike out of the trees along the mountainside.

We started our Cherohala Skyway experience at Tellico Plains and stopped here to get a map to the falls (I read that on Trip Advisor) and the store part is so cute! We also wanted to visit the bathrooms before we started on the Skyway and they were very clean, so start here if you can!

This is probably the most beautiful drive you will ever take,it starts in the Cherokee National Forest in Tellico Plains Tn,it ends in Robbinsville NC,the TN side is the prettiest with more pull offs to take it all in,the NC side has more sharp curves, motorcyclist would undoubtedly love the whole trip. It is nature at its best, unspoiled and breathtaking,it’s a drive you will never forget!!!!
