About Hike The Smokys
Our philosophy is: We're here to guide our participants on safe, enjoyable, and relaxing encounters with nature, primarily, in The Great Smokys Mountains National Park. We're privately insured, and commercially licensed by the Great Smokys National Park, to conduct adventures in the Park. We primarily provide guided historical, recreational, day hikes for couples, and families, with professional photography included. But, we also do much more! We stand out from others tour companies since we also provide private "nature encounters", or highly personalized, hikes, camping and kayaking excursions, designed for those seeking solitude and answers, about the "deeper things" they may be going through in their life. Many of our previous guests have discovered on previous "encounter" trips, that the beautiful Smoky Mountains provide an ideal environment, for contemplation and enlightenment. Primarily, because you are safely guided, to beautiful vistas, far removed from the noise, cell phones, and clamor of everyday life. Once these distractions are removed, and you're surrounded by your Creator's beautiful nature, your senses, and thinking processes are sharpened, especially when dealing with the deeper questions affecting your life. We've termed these personalized excursions as"nature encounters", which are our highly customized approach to adventuring, that would normally be just another vacation, yet has had profound and moving affects on several of our customers. Our adventures occur primarily in the beautiful, and magnificent, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in Tennessee. Not only do we take you to some amazing places, but we also professionally photograph you in those settings, and include photos with many of our hiking and kayaking events. Our adventures are customized for just one person, or for several. We are very unique, since we take the time to necessary to listen, and find out what event, trail, or activity you'd enjoy the most, before you make any commitment. No other tour company provides this kind of service. We've had the pleasure of creating hundreds of customized events for single folks, single parents with kids, and large family groups, who like you, were just looking for a safe enjoyable adventure with nature. Among our most memorable events have been: Midnight Mountain Sunrise hikes, kayaking on a lake to an island, hike-ins and camping overnight, group hikes, private surprise engagement hikes, and honeymoon hikes. Most of our events are for all ages, and experience levels. We provide safe, friendly and uplifting guidance and preparation, which includes analysis of park conditions including; weather, traffic, bear activity, trail and shelter closures, obtaining proper permits etc., to provide the best and most private trails, to maximum our customer's experience. This is why all of our events are by reservations only, because we know you don't want just another ordinary "vacation". So, contact us now, and let your imagination "run wild"!

Even if you THINK you don’t need a guide for your excursion, you should immediately change your mind! How nice it was to see things during hiking and kayaking that would have been missed otherwise, and learning the history and nature facts about the area made the trips not only enjoyable, but educational.

Thank you!! I'm so gratified that you both enjoyed yourself so much! You have managed to condense in so very few words the essence of what I do! Thank you for that too! I can't wait for us to do it again! -Steve

Although I was born and raised in Knoxville, and came to the Smokies often as a teenager, I was never interested in the history, just the beauty. Now that life has slowed down a little, along with enjoying the scenery I realize there is so much to learn about the land and the people. When my husband and I came to the mountains for a few days, we agreed that we might learn something and we chose to tour Elkmont with Steve Ellis as our guide. We couldn't have asked for a better guide than Steve. He immediately made us feel like old friends, and his knowledge of the history of the Great Smoky Mountains is immense. Elkmont is no longer just an area to visit or a place to camp, it's a community full of history. Thank you so much Steve for making history interesting and fun. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the history tour! I really enjoyed my time with both of you as I rarely get to share the history of East TN with "home grown" folks such as yourselves! You definitely helped a transplant such as myself. feel the famously known "southern hospitality" while we were together! I hope to share even more history with both of you in the near future! Thank you!

we did the evening kayak ride at douglas lake and it was fantastic. beautiful lake and steve did a great job mixing in local history while giving us a scenic little tour of the lake. we got a little mixed up directions wise and were almost an hour late but steve was 100% cool about it and stayed out late with us so we didn't lose any time. the campfire on the shore was great and kids definitely loved that part - steve brought plenty of water, hot dogs and smores supplies. highly recommended to go out with steve and we'll definitely connect with him again next time we're in town. he's a good guy as well as a very knowledgeable and fun guide.

Thank you so much for your comments! I had such a great time with you and your family! Watching you bravely stand up paddle board one of our fishing kayaks was one of the highlights of the evening for me! I think you guys may have had as good a time as I did! :) I'm really looking forward to doing it again! -Steve
