About
The Rocky Top Wine Trail, Tennessee’s first and most visited wine trail, was established in 2008 when the opening of a third winery in the area opened up the possibility of three local wineries cooperating together. The Wine Trail has only grown from there, and now with five participating wineries throughout Sevierville and Pigeon Forge, guests are able to sample from over 70 unique, award-winning wines by the time they’ve completed the Trail! Not only do Trail participants get to enjoy local, handcrafted wine, they get to experience it while reveling in the majestic views of the Great Smoky Mountains, eating at their favorite restaurants (or ours!), shopping at Tanger Five Oaks Outlet Mall, and spending time with friends! Sounds like a grand adventure already, doesn’t it? The principles of the wine trail are simple: Support local farms, provide exceptional quality wine, and offer only the very best southern hospitality to each and every visitor. That’s it!

We got all 5 places in one afternoon and will finish at the Old Mill area for a late lunch (after this last wine stop). There were a lot of great wines to sample on the trail as well as some ciders and slushes. Each place had a limited number of samplings for free or you could purchase a sampling of all of their offerings. Since we were doing the whole trail in a day we stuck pretty much with the minimum though we enjoyed a glass / slush at the 1st and last stop. If you’re in the area and enjoy free wine tastings we’d highly recommend carving out an afternoon to enjoy the preplanned trail. Be sure to get a stamped passport at your first stop. You receive 2 RTWT glasses at your 3rd stop and a special gift at your 5th stop as well. It was a great way to relax and spend a few hours together!

We had the best time!!! We did the VIP wine tour. It was just us my husband and I. Our driver was amazing, he took us around safely to all the wineries, he gave us tours, assisted us with pictures, and provided us with snack and water. The van was clean and comfortable. We went to Mountain Valley Winery and enjoyed 6 tastings each. Queen B (Kristin) was amazing. She was fun and friendly. Our second stop was Mill Bridge Winery where we had pairing and tasting of cider and wine with Caleb. He was friendly and informative and we walked away with a bottle of cider and 2 bottles of wine. Our third stop was Hillside Winery and we had cheese, crackers, and wine tasting with Katey. She was also fun! She made it enjoyable and we even had a chance to taste the wine slushy. We ended the wine tour at Apple Barn Winery and our driver gave us gifts, which included a cute wine glass. We walked away as wine club members, about 12 bottles of wine, and great memories. Highly recommend and will do again on our next visit.

Rand was our tour guide today. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and took us around to see some cool things and explained the history. We really enjoyed the wine tasting and lunch. Rand was so safe on the back roads with all the tourists with the large RVs on the tiny back roads and calmly handled the backed up traffic. We had three individuals that normally have a lot of motion sickness and his driving was so smooth we had no issues.

BEWARE of the Rocky Top Wine Trail Wine Club. .

buy your way out of a club does not seem right

So To start out. The Wine Tasting was a blast and the guide was very nice. I think the value was good for the tasting and the tour. BUT Just before the end of the tour they started talking about a wine club membership. Keeping in mind we had went through a pretty good amount of wine. Laughing and cutting up. I paid for the membership. I was a little glassy eyed but i gave them the $10. After getting home and realizing it was a membership that auto sent bottle's of wine to your home every month. Now I like wine, but did not want to have it shipped every month so I emailed them and asked to be taken out of the wine Club, The email I got back explained that I would need to buy wine before they would Let me unsubscribe. Otherwise the shipments would keep on coming.

THEY WROTE "You agreed to our terms and conditions upon signing up for the Monthly 3 Pack Club, which state that you may cancel anytime after your first club shipment. Your first club shipment is scheduled for April. I look forward to hearing from you soon on when you'd like to receive your first club shipment."

5 mins latter I had a notification they had ran my card for $0.00 to see if it was still valid.

Well, To be honest, I was a little tipsy, And when I got home I decided that i did not want the wine … I already had over 12 bottle's from the trip. But after a few emails back and forth they are requiring me to by 3 more bottle's before I can cancel. Even though I explained that this was not a contract. This was a card with check boxes on it.

Even after I told them I did not give them permission to recharge my card they have on file there response was we will be sending you wine in April.

In short, it was a good time, but when you serve wine to a tour for about 7 hours they may get a bit tipsy.

The idea that you need to buy your way out of a club does not seem right. Seems maybe a explanation in the beginning would have been nice but also not a good marketing time. I would not recommend the tour due to it seems to be a way to show you a good time while reaching in your pocket for as much as they can get knowing most will not return on vacation for a extended period of time.

We're sorry you feel this way. It seems you signed up for the Monthly 3 Pack Club on March 18, 2022. You received your club member discounts beginning at the time of your sign up, which is why we require one club shipment before cancellation. We also offered pushing your first club shipment out to May or June and that once your obligation has been fulfilled you may cancel, but it seems that part was left out of the review. We also have other clubs that ship less often that you're welcome to change your club membership to. Again, because you received your club member discount at the time of sign up as well as free premium tastings (another club member perk), we do require one club shipment. You do not have to lock in for any amount of time beyond one club shipment, if you choose to cancel at that point. That's completely up to you. However, you signed and dated the wine club sign up sheet which states that you agree to the terms and conditions and that you can cancel anytime after the first club shipment. We do not push the club on anyone, we simply inform them. Each individual/couple who is informed of the club can choose whether or not they want to sign up. We're happy to work with you to find a solution, if you'll just reach out to the number we gave you in the most recent email.

This was an amazing wine tour! Randy (tour guide) knew so much and was great at sharing all the info about the city, wine, most sees, oh and walmart :-)
They take you to several local spots and they all have great vibes. We had good samples at each place and they take time to explain each of their local wines.
The tour is a great way to see the city and get to know some local top favs.

My best friend and I were very excited to take the VIP Wine Tour and we were not disappointed. Ken was our driver. He was very knowledgeable and did a great job keeping us entertained while taking us to the different wineries. We met at the Apple Barn Winery, but we started off with a tour and tasting at Mountain Valley Winery. Our favorite wine was the Red Velvet! From there, we went to Mill Bridge where we really liked the Cherry Lavender Cider. After that, we went on to tour and taste at Hillside Winery where our favorite was the Sangria. Ken then took us back to Apple Barn Winery where we loved the Apple Cherry and Apple Peach! From there, we walked down to Apple Barn Cider House. We loved several of the ciders but stand outs were the Blubarb Cider and the Ginger Cider. We got great discounts through the VIP tour. We would definitely do the tour again when we are next in the area.

Visiting the various winery stops. The wine sampling was good. all the people serving us at these stops were very friendly and knowledgeable. Our tour guide and driver Rand was top notch. He made the time between each stop very enjoyable. He stopped several times and gave a great description of what went on there and and was good at holding our interest. We really liked some of the wine samples and bought some good wine at a discount . Can't wait to share them with friends and tell them about our excursion.

We came across at ad for the VIP wine tour in a local guide given to us at our resort. Cost was $55/pp but almost another $10 on top in fees.

We got our money’s worth and then some!

Randy was our driver and guide. He made it a point to talk to each of us, not only about our vacation but what types of wine we liked so he could give his personal recommendations. There were only 6 people in the group (two couples and then me and my sister), and after less than an hour, it felt like we were all friends.

The sprinter van was plenty spacious, and Randy always kept it cool for us. The only thing that I would suggest for an improvement is some type of microphone so guide can be heard better. In the current COVID era, there is plexiglass around the driver, and all have to wear masks. Therefore, it was hard to hear, but all we had to do was ask him to speak up!

First stop was Mountain Valley. I didn’t catch the name of the woman who served us, but she was excellent, kind, and patient. We all ended up signing up for the wine club which is a GREAT deal. They had reserved a spot for the VIP group to stand around the counter. Plastic dividers were set up between us and the staff.

Second stop was Mill Bridge Winery, which has both wine and cider. There were bite size accompaniments like honey, lemon juice, and chocolate to demonstrate how the taste of cider changes. They had several flavors of unique ciders, like cherry lavender and apple strawberry basil. Again, they were expecting us. The staff member was cordial but not overly enthusiastic. I think because we had a such a good experience at the first stop that this paled in comparison.

The final stop was Hillside. Randy brought us in the back to see some of the equipment and explain the process at this particular winery. Joe was the server and was such a fun guy. Pinot Grigio was one of my favorites here, and Black and Blue is their best seller.

Everything ran smoothly and on schedule. At the end, Randy gave us a souvenir bag that had a glass, travel corkscrew, coaster for your car, hat.

It was such a nice break from the rest of the activities in the area... particularly since we didn’t have to do the driving!

Note — If you consider yourself a wine expert, you probably won’t like this. The tour is super casual and meant to be fun! I did not agree with other review about the staff at wineries or the activity feeling cheap. There is no seating at any of the wineries; it is all standing service at a counter. However, this is in line with any other wine tasting I’ve done from
Napa to New York!

We got good recommendations for local activities, restaurants, etc, so if you go early on in your trip, that would probably be even better!

Would highly recommend :)

We are so glad you enjoyed your VIP Shuttle Tour with Randy. We do have a small speaker system and will pass the word along that it would be good for him to use with the plexiglass buffer. Thank you for leaving a review on your wonderful experience. We hope to see y'all again anytime you're in the area!

We had an amazing wine tour with Rand as our tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable in the local area and the entire wine production process. If you’re in the area I highly recommend booking this tour. It made our trip! Not to mention we got to drink some of the best wines I’ve ever had.

A friend and I discovered this wine trail by accident while visiting the cider house at The Apple Barn and decided to visit all the other locations on the free passport card we were given. (We later found out that there is a paid VIP tour that is also available as there were a few groups in some of the places we stopped). Overall, the wines and ciders were delicious and much better than the ones we sampled the day before on the Gatlinburg Wine Trail - the majority of the selections are sweet to semi sweet, but most stops had some other options. All stops had both red and white wines, with the exception of the Apple Barn Cider House, which is just hard cider. And then the Mill House Winery had both wine and hard cider. Each stop had a set number of samples you could try for free (most were up to 4), but you could also pay a few dollars at most locations and try additional options. We bought a few bottles on the way, with plans to order more from their wine club later on. We had a great time, but our bartender at our last stop (Mill Bridge Winery) was a little rude and also admitted that she didn't even drink wine/cider, so was not able to make good suggestions like all the other locations were able to. We did get two free gifts along the trail - a wine glass at the third stop and a shot glass at the last stop, which was especially nice since we just did the free self-guided hops to each location. The wineries/cider houses on this particular trail are fairly close together so depending on how busy each stop is and how the traffic in Pigeon Forge is, you can get to all of them in an afternoon (we started around 10:45 in the morning on a Saturday and were done in a little over an hour since traffic was not bad).

We're pleased to hear of your wonderful wine and cider sampling experience along the Rocky Top Wine Trail. We will address the issue at Mill Bridge, as that's not what we strive to provide as a company. We hope to see you again next time you're in town!
