- Paula OAnnandale, Virginia8 contributionsMotown at Schermerhorn Symphony CenterWe had a wonderful time at the Symphony to hear Motown: Dancing in the Streets. All the singers, orchestra, horns, and band performers were wonderful. However, I'm writing this review because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the "Orchestra View" seats. I've never seen this before. We set behind the orchestra looking down onto the stage and viewing the conductor. These seats were only $30/ea plus fees which makes going to the Symphony much more affordable. If you're going to "listen" to music then why pay 3 times more. More concert halls should be built like Schermerhorn where more people can afford to enjoy great music!Visited February 2023Written February 15, 2023

It truly is a beautiful theater and a treasure to Nashville. We had wonderful seats and thoroughly enjoyed the show. After experiencing the heavy handed, disruptive ushers at the Bridgestone, this was a breath of fresh air. I hope they get that rectified. We will definitely return to the Schermerhorn Symphony for upcoming shows. It is a great place to enjoy music and they do have many good groups that perform there.Visited June 2022Written September 16, 2022

We had great seats close to the stage in the orchestra section. That is where our expectations for a great evening ended. Three singers took the stage and were not near the caliber of the other show I mention. It seemed cobbled together and felt like the three performers had never performed together before. In fact, as they came to the stage one of the male singers was fixing the other one's collar. They mostly performed solo with one or 2 sitting off to the side while the other one sang. Their clothing was less than appealing. Shoes unshined, clothing too tight, just so unpolished for the symphony. They each told a personal story that was nice. I don't doubt these are talented, good people, they maybe need to rehearse together more and perform as a group more as well. The other big problem was the sound. The symphony orchestra was too loud. It drowned out the singers. We also could have done without the intermission. They performed 20 songs, with 1 or 2 of the singers sitting on a stool off to the side, many shows can do that without a break. The people next to us were betting what the encore would be. No need, there wasn't one. Maybe if we had paid $30.00 for our tickets like Paula O we would not have felt so cheated. The seats she mentioned seem interesting, except you can't see the singers. Maybe if she could she might not have been so happy. We will never go to another show like this again. Only established groups for us in the future.Visited February 2023Written March 14, 2023

Rows 1-4 very close to the stage and you have to keep looking up instead of just straight ahead. Best rows if doing floor level are 6-10. Parking very expensive especially on Saturday nights so park over by Broadway and pay about $10. - TnGirl45669 contributionsPretentious, Expensive and Alcohol FueledPerhaps if you go there for a symphony, it may be alright. We went there for the Lyle Lovett show last night. We saw him on same tour 3 nights prior in West Virginia and had a blast that we still smile about. At Schermerhorn, I couldn't recommend it. The building is beautiful but although parking is wide open in mostly empty lots, several still wanted $20?! to park. That's robbery, ended up having to pay 16$ in the end. Symphony Center was easy on the eyes and beautiful to look at but it seemed like (unlike other Lyle tour dates) most people there had no idea who they were there seeing. They talked all around us through the whole show, had crinkly food products and one female couple in front of us spent the whole show making out, laughing and grabbing each other. One of the two kept holding up her camera taking pics, video then texting. I don't know why people like this come to a show. You can't sit still for 2 hours? The alcohol pushing there seem to make EVERYone loud and obnoxious as well as slurping down drink and shaking aroung plastic cups with ice in our ears. Talking to these people did no good. The center made strong announcements against cell phone usage being banned but That and certainly stopped VERY few. The ushers never bothered to enforce the rules and the flashes and playing were VERY distracting.Try to get your sources to enforce some rules and make people comfortable Schermerhorn. We paid too much money for those seats to have a frat party atmosphere/. Lovett was good but even just 12 rows back, his voice wasn't as strong. I live near Knoxville so, that was a long ride that I wish we had never made.Visited May 2013Traveled with familyWritten May 14, 2013

An unbelievable venue for a wedding. A spectacular stage for what it should be for a symphony. Very spacious floor space and more than ample for 300 plus people. Staff was as good as you can expect from such a wonderful venue.

Travelled especially to hear the classical compositions of one of my favorite rock stars from the past (Kip Winger). What a treat to meet several season ticket holders and experience the preconcert lecture with Giancarlo Guerrero with Kip Winger! My box seats were spectacular and the drinks were superb. I will definitely visit again. There are no bad seats in the house, but you will not be disappointed in sitting in the box seats - you'll feel like royalty! Parking was just across the street and the box office can help you with that. The box office people were so very nice! It was truly a memorable evening on all counts!

Visited the Schermerhorn to see Matthew Morrison sing with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. Not only was the concert hall absolutely beautiful, with fabulous acoustics, the orchestra was truly amazing. If you need a quick break from the country music scene, go to a concert there and hear this beautiful group of extremely talented musicians.

Hello Denette,
There is no dress code at Schermerhorn Symphony Center, and we're not aware of a dress code for this specific event. We would suggest business casual, but it's entirely up to you!

I was thinking about attending the Felix Cavaliere show next June and was wondering what the sound was like from those seats behind the stage?
Jeff M
Hoover, AL141 contributions
I never sat in those seats, but since the acoustics in the other areas is impeccable, I would bet it is great there, too. It would be almost like the sound sitting in the orchestra playing and you get to see every move of the professionals.
Looking for suggestions, ideas on clothing options appropriate for the symphony. Taking into consideration the season and style of music to be performed.
Going to see the music of Prince, starring Marshall Charloff. It is scheduled for November 8th.
This will be my first time to attending a symphony hall and I want to make sure that I'm not under dressed. The only dress I own is a black knee length. I've worn it once. To my husband's funeral. Don't think I will ever wear it again.
So, I'm thinking about skinny jeans or maybe palazzo pants. I love beautiful clothes but, rarely buy them because I spend most of the time in work clothes. The tickets are a special treat to myself and who knows how long it will be before I do something like this again.
If anyone has any suggestions please help this old lady out!

Wear whatever you are comfortable in :) . When I went to the Ann Wilson of Heart concert there back in June, I saw everyone wearing a variety of different clothes. Dresses, shirts and shorts, and many other things. Everyone was wearing their own definition of casual clothes :) . Also, if this helps any, I saw people dancing during the concert too :) . The biggest tip I would have is just have fun :) . I know I did when I went to the concert :)

We are looking into a concert here and will need a hotel also. Is it necessary to stay near this center or is there plenty of parking nearby? Trying to decide if we should book within walking distance or not.
Thanks.

Hi there! Downtown Nashville hotels have become unreasonably expensive. Unless you want the experience of walking all over downtown, you can find a less expensive option in other areas. Hotels in Vanderbilt/West End area might be a good option if you want to be close but not right downtown; the Uber/Lyft ride to downtown would be quite reasonable. Also, if you arrive at least 30-45 minutes before the show, you usually can park your own car in the parking garage in the Pinnacle building for less than $20, cash or cash. The Convention Center also offers parking; it is cheaper than Pinnacle but a little further away (maybe 2-3 blocks). Pinnacle is directly across from the Symphony if you are entering the Symphony from the rear of the building - very convenient if weather is bad. If you are ok being further away (20-30 minutes) you might find some cheaper hotel options in the Bellevue, West Nashville, Brentwood, or Cool Springs area. Each of these areas has access to I-40 or I-65 and many restaurants. Good luck!
I plan on seeing Harry Potter tomorrow and it is ochestra view behind the stage, can you still see the movie?

We will be attending the Jennifer Nettles concert in December. Our first time here. We have box 39 row 1 seats 1 and 2. Will we be disappointed with this selection of seating? I was late in purchasing tickets and these were the closest available. I have a genetic eye disease that prevents me from seeing well;the reason why I'm asking.

Hello, there is no dress code for Schermerhorn Symphony Center. As our Maestro, Giancarlo Guerrero, likes to say: All you need is a pair of ears. That said, if you're looking for a baseline of what you might feel most comfortable wearing, I'd suggest business casual. But, as the commenters above have noted, you'll see people wearing all kinds of attire, based on what feels most comfortable to them.
Thank you for attending Seth MacFarlane, and we look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Is it difficult to get a taxi after a performance?
NashvilleSymph
Nashville
Hello,
You shouldn't have difficulty finding a taxi following the performance, as downtown remains active on most evenings, thanks to the nightclubs and bars on nearby lower Broadway. One of the most visible cab companies downtown is Allied Cab, which is easily reachable at 615.333.333.
And you can find a full list of cab companies by doing a web search for "Nashville" and "Taxi."
Uber is also a recommended option for getting around town.
I hope this information helps! Don't hesitate to let me know if I can assist with anything else.
