- Sue AlbanyAlbany, New York120 contributionsWent with a seniors group through Collette tours. This was a lunch stop off between site seeing. A good idea. One building is all food vendors. All kinds of foods. Very reasonable prices. Good gift shops/hopefully all local made. The second building is a true farmers market with plants for sale, crafts, clothing, seeds, etc. Needs alittle more seating capacities. Good bathrooms. Abundant trash cans. Gets very crowded around meal time.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 27, 2024
- Heather J43 contributionsWe went to the Farmer’s Market on a Saturday and it was busy! We walked through the garden and all the booths before grabbing lunch. There are lots of choices but we opted for something on the lighter side. Bread Winner Linch Shop was delicious!!! They make their own foccia bread and use ingredients from the local area. The bread was amazing!! The chicken salad was FRESH!Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 5, 2024
- RandyRossRidgetown, Canada12,801 contributionsThe Nashville Farmers' Market, founded in the early 1800s, is located in the urban core of downtown Nashville adjacent to the Tennessee State Museum and Bicentennial Mall State Park. The year-round Market provides retail space to farmers, artisans and small businesses. Due to the season, only the indoor part of it was open during our visit. Entry and parking are free.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 30, 2024

It's difficult to review this venue because we came here just two weeks before Christmas while in Nashville to listen to Christmas music. It was not a very populous time of year to visit this area. The Farmer's Market was nearly deserted. The traverse down the hill from the capitol is kinda fun and that brings you right into the giant map of Tennessee imbedded in the ground. The Farmer's Market runs parallel to the Bicentennial Park on the west where the stone State of Tennessee ground map begins the park to the south. The Capitol Bicentennial Park is another topic, but it is quite large and filled with information outlining the first two hundred years of history of Tennessee. So it takes awhile to get all through it. Three hours wasn't enough and we ran out of light due to the short days of December. The Farmer's Market was getting near to closing when we walked in on a Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. As I approached the Market City BBQ the guy informed me that they closed at 4:00 p.m. and that he only had chicken and pork left. I ordered fast and ate in the central court area. She headed for the "The Picnic Tap" and got a heart-shaped gilled cheese sandwich which looked great. We followed that with some ice cream from "Jenni's Ice Creams." The food at all the places is very good and especially at Jenni's. After eating a quick stop in the Tennessee store and a couple others. The made in Tennessee store was pretty interesting although the swag was typical tourist quality stuff. The coffee shop was open as we were here until about 4:45 p.m. and headed back out to read more on the Bicentennial wall. We enjoyed our time here, however, it should be pointed out that there are not a lot of food options right near the park. If you are visiting this area, visiting this park, and want a view of the capitol, this is a great way to acclimate to Tennessee. The Farmer's Market is not a large space and quite often in the summer there are events in the park which may crowd it. Also, this is a stop on the Hop-On, Hop Off bus and we recommend taking the bus in order to have flexibility in your day and get the broad overview of the city's landmarks. You can easily spend an afternoon here and feel like you had a chance to learn about Tennessee, see the State Capitol, and have a place to eat and take breaks.

We went to check it out in early May on a Tuesday. No problem parking in their own lot as there were not many people there. We started in the open farmers market (it is covered by a roof) and found very few farmers with produce and only a few crafters selling their products, but the space is very large and can accommodate many vendors. We then walked through the garden center that had gorgeous plants and a variety of yard decor. Then we entered the Market House where there are numerous food vendors offering great looking eats from all over the world. Beer, wine, soda, teas, coffee, etc. widely available. I believe there were also a few gift shops. I enjoyed a craft beer from The Picnic Tap and my wife gave in to some ice cream from Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. A fun place to visit, have a snack and people watch.

Very little to see the Friday we went. Several farms had produce out but being a 10 hour drive from home we opted not to stock up. They were mostly just food vendors in the enclosed area of the market. I chose the slider place and for $20 I was seriously disappointed. A hamburger slider on a completely burned bun and a “grilled cheese” that was assembled after the bread was grilled and chilled. Best thing they had were the sweet potato fries. Still wasn’t worth the money or the long wait. We did luck into a gentleman selling Wagyu beef jerky and beef sticks. Ahhhhhmazing!

We stopped at the farmers market 2x. First time to walk through and see the venders. The 2nd time we just needed to pass some time between our scheduled activities. Very fun, area to just hang out at. Live music played, people sipped beverages and ate food. Across the street is Bicentennial Park with a historical timeline of Tennessee. Beautiful area to roam around if you have a couple hours.

We stumbled upon this leaving the Tennessee State Museum and it made for a lovely afternoon. The food hall had so many choices (the ice cream shop with the butter-waffle cones was our favorite). The outdoor stalls had beautiful produce, pumpkins, and some home items. We walked away with some delicious honey. There appear to be periodic special events like an upcoming fall festival. And there was plenty of free parking.

Obviously the market was not as lively and exuberant as it may be during the summertime, but it was still operational and worth a look around. The main building with eateries and small shops (the building in the picture attached) was open and the pricing of meals/products seemed moderate. It wasn't that big but it was still nice to relax there, especially as it was warmer than outdoors!
Outside, although no stalls were open, the Gardens of Babylon Garden Center was and it was nice to stroll around this and also to meet the resident cat who was hiding among the large potted plants in the greenhouse. Being close to both the Tennessee State Museum and Downtown it was worth the time to visit after visiting other attractions.

It’s a farmer’s market. If you go in the winter or early spring, like many of the reviewers here this year, you won’t find the farmers; just the indoor businesses that are there year round. Use some common sense to inform your expectations and you won’t leave disappointed.
During the late spring, summer, and into the fall this place is fantastic for buying plants for your garden, meat for your freezer, and produce for your shelves. The locally brewed spirits stands are also great stalls to visit. You can even find venders selling non-food items like clothes and crafts. There are even big festivals here regularly through the warm months.
My personal favorite place to go is the Babylon Gardens. The wide selection of plants is wonderful and we’ve made it a tradition to go here for my mother’s day present every year.

The farmer and crafts market is fun to walk browse, chat and stop for a quick bite or meal.
The crafts section is under a roof and the main food court is indoors.
We enjoyed really great espresso and a muffin, then walked to the museum next for a great exhibit about the history of the people in the region.
Later came back for lunch. Two memorable stands is the wine counter / tasting and the smoked BBQ joint, of course there are other restaurants stands for pizza, tacos, Asian noodles and more. Fun stop for all

Always a great stop! I stopped here on a Monday for tomatoes and other veggies, so not much was open, but normally this place is bustling with activity.
Smiley’s farm, from nearby Ridgetop, Tennessee, is open most days of the week and has great tomatoes, cucumbers, as well as eggplants, squash and more.
In addition to veggie vendors, there are vendors who offer jellies and jams, homemade spices, and honey. On this trip I actually bought both clover honey and wildflower honey (each have a unique flavor).
There are meat vendors and some flea market type stalls. There is a large landscaping shop that’s open most days of the week.
There is a big food court with Greek, Mexican, Indian, and African food. There is BBQ, beer/wine bars, burgers, crepes, ice cream, and more. Everything is reasonably priced and a lot of seating is available.
There is an ATM on site (with a hefty five dollar fee). Parking is plentiful, but has the potential to be tough on weekends.
Sometimes there are also food trucks and evening events.
Wonderful Nashville institution to support local business!

A lovely surprise- our Uber driver recommended a stop here. There were probably 40 restaurant vendors inside and a traditional farmers produce market outside. Free to get in and it’s air conditioned.

Are there breakfast and coffee options?
Written February 5, 2025
Yes indeed. Your only "concern" should be for on site parking! The market is a very popular, and great place to visit.

Is the indoor space heated? I'm bringing a group this Friday and wondering if this is a good place to go for an early dinner.
Written November 27, 2018
Yes it is heated in winter and cooled in summer.
Written November 28, 2018
Yes, but when we there half the lot was closed due to utility work. It is hard to find a spot. There is a free gravel lot about a third of a mile south and around a corner and across some railroad tracks. It's kind of behind the smokeless tobacco factory.
Written May 25, 2017
Most is covered and a great food court inside. I think it would be a great rainy day activity. I'm assuming the vendors would still show up.

We have two dogs: a cocker spaniel and a golden doodle. Could we bring our dogs on a leash to the market? Looking for a good dog friendly spot on a Saturday.

Do they have live farm animals for sale?
Written April 24, 2016
No! This is fruits, veggies, food court and the only thing live, plants! The flea market in Lebanon, on the weekends has live animals. Good luck!
