Since opening in 2001, the Frist Center for Visual Arts has hosted a spectacular array of art from around the world. Not only an important cultural focal point for the city of Nashville, it is also a significant architectural structure, occupying one of Nashville’s great historic landmarks, the former main post office. Constructed from 1933 to 1934 under the direction of the local architectural firm of Marr & Holman, it displays both of the most distinctive architectural styles of the period: Classicism and Art Deco.

My husband and I knew nothing about the museum but we decided to give it a try...wow! Wonderfully curated exhibits...one on aboriginal art..the other a survey of contemporary art. Both were wonderful...and challenging...and enlightening. We will definitely stops again when we're in town.

Great building, exceptional children's hands-on section with great staff, rotating exhibits. The current aboriginal art and textile artist exhibits were very well presented.

Only thing to note was decor of building inside, otherwise found this so uninviting that we did not go into museum.

This historic building has undergone an amazing restoration from a post office to a modern art gallery. Fantastic Art Deco interior also. Well worth the walk up to the top of Broadway.

I have always like paintings, sculpture, and drawings ..but never much on photography until now. The gallery at Frist was setting up the first floor and it was closed to the public. The second floor gallery was having a photo exhibition..great I thought...not really. However...More

If you're only looking at the exhibit portions of the museum, you should be able to comfortably cover them without rushing in a couple hours. Exhibits do change, so timing could vary a bit due to actual exhibits at that time... More
