This area has the cutest boutiques and cafes. It is a great area to wander around and a definite must do when in Nashville. It is also home to some of the most famous Nashville murals. You must visit Draper James, Whites Mercantile, the Frothy Monkey and five daughters bakery.

This is a great neighborhood that seems more authentic to what and who Nashville really is. Lots of young parents and children. Plenty of excellent restaurants and shops. Very quiet, more of an actual neighborhood than a tourist trap. If you want to feel authentic Nashville then head on over here.

Absolutely LOVED 12 South! They have a variety of boutiques and stores. Also, plenty of restaurants. Be sure to check out Finnley’s for cute Nashville sweatshirts and tees. Also, Made in TN had super cute shirts and gifts! Make sure to wear your walking shoes! And get pictures at the murals!

Not a lot of shopping here. Just a few overpriced shops. There was one really neat antique shop that we loved. We really wanted to go into White's Mercantile but it was by appointment only because of Covid. You aren't missing anything if you don't visit this area while in Nashville.

Great little area full of boutiques with clothing and artisanal jewelry; bars; ice cream, etc. Lovely to walk around on a pretty day. We really enjoyed ourselves.

This is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Nashville! Beautiful historic bungalows, great shops like Draper James, amazing coffee at Frothy Moneky, & so many restaurants & bars. We had no problem finding street parking a block off & walking in. Definitely will be back the next time we are in town!

Nashville, Tennessee, is a city of neighborhoods, like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston and San Francisco. One of the most vibrant is 12 South, a leafy residential neighborhood known for its bungalow-style houses, stylish designer boutiques, coffee houses and stores specializing in vintage guitars and quirky housewares. Located south of downtown Nashville, near Belmont University, it is bordered by Wedgewood Avenue to the north and Gale Street to the south. Its center is Caruthers Avenue with its pre-1900 houses and a 1906 church. It is home to the iconic "I Believe In Nashville" murals and Sevier Park, a popular gathering place with its towering trees, picnic shelters and playgrounds. If you're visiting Nashville for the first time, book a room at 1501 Linden Manor B&B or Oliver 12 South or Homestay Nashville, a far cry from the expensive downtown hotels, browse through such shops as Draper James, Emerson Grace, MODA boutique, Serendipity and White's Mercantile, then take a break for lunch or dinner at Edley's Bar-B-Que, voted the No. 1 barbecue restaurant in Nashville, 12 South Taproom & Grill, Urban Grub, Fish & Company, Hot Diggity Dog or The Flipside. One of the most popular destinations in the neighborhood is 12 South Farmers' Market, which showcases fresh vegetables, meats, juices, fruits, seafood, pizza, breads, pastries, flowers and plants produced by farmers and vendors all over the Nashville area. Our favorite stop was Edley's, famous for its barbecue and the Nashville culinary tradition of "meat and three." I couldn't resist a platter with a full rack of pork ribs with cornbread, red sauce, pickles, baked beans and potato salad. Capped off with a big slice of pecan pie. In Nashville's 12 South neighborhood, that's good ole southern cooking.

We had heard great things about this neighborhood and everyone said, "You need to visit it" so we did. I have to admit that I was a little let down by the lack of shops. Yes there were a few, but not what I expected. There was also a bakery, a dog shop, and a couple of miscellaneous shops and a beautiful Christmas tree and wreath stand on the corner. It is set in the middle of a neighborhood with bungalow style homes and a nice walk, but that is about all that we did there. Very few people on the streets on this particular day as well.

12 South is a lovely, hip stretch about a mile long with a number of unique local shops (I only counted 4 chain stores), nice, mostly casual restaurants, and at the southernmost point an attractive park. The surrounding neighborhood of mostly rehabbed old bungalows and some more upscale homes is very attractive as well. All-in-all, one of the most appealing neighborhoods in Nashville.
